To check a Gyre stream, look at two places: the destination platform’s live health dashboard to see what is arriving, and your encoder’s statistics to see what it is sending or dropping. For YouTube, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and select Stream health. The available sources do not establish that Gyre has a dropped-frame counter or frame-rate history, so do not treat Gyre’s stream status as a substitute for those diagnostics.
Check the destination’s live health view
- Open the stream’s live dashboard. Start or open the stream in Gyre, then open the dashboard for its destination. For YouTube, go to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and select the Stream health tab beside Stream settings.
- Check whether the encoder signal is reaching the platform. Read the health status and any indicators or messages showing where the connection is breaking. Gyre’s stream-key troubleshooting guide directs users to YouTube’s Stream health view when common stream-key fixes have not resolved the problem.
- If you used Gyre’s YouTube API workflow, check its stream status as well. Gyre says status for streams created through that workflow syncs into Gyre in real time. That status is useful context, but it does not establish that Gyre displays dropped-frame percentages or frame-rate history.
Find dropped frames in the encoder
Look in the encoder’s own statistics for a dropped-frame count or warning, then compare its timing with the destination’s health indicators. The two views cover different parts of the path: encoder statistics can show frames lost before or during transmission, while the platform dashboard shows what reaches its ingest system.
OBS Project documentation defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or that the configured bitrate cannot be sustained. The wording applies to OBS’s diagnostic label; do not assume every application uses identical counters or definitions. A platform dashboard may also expose incoming bitrate, frame rate, or other ingest metrics, depending on the destination.
Tell dropped frames apart from other performance problems
- Dropped frames: Investigate delivery to the remote ingest server, including connection stability and whether the configured bitrate is sustainable.
- Rendering or frame-rate problems: These can indicate rendering or compositor lag rather than frames lost on the network. Check the encoder’s separate rendering or frame-rate indicators if available.
- Encoding overload: Skipped frames caused by encoder load are not the same as dropped frames caused by the connection. Use the encoder’s own labels and statistics to identify which category is reported.
Do not respond to every warning by lowering bitrate. OBS cautions that dynamically lowering bitrate can reduce picture quality without fixing the underlying cause. First identify whether the encoder, connection, or destination ingest is reporting the problem.

Check prerecorded files before starting a Gyre stream
For a prerecorded-video stream, use Gyre Storage’s file check and optimization workflow before launch. Gyre says it checks uploaded video parameters and offers optimization; its materials note that unoptimized files can contribute to slow transfer, buffering, or interruptions. This is a file-readiness check, not a live dropped-frame diagnostic.
Use other destination dashboards only for their own metrics
Diagnostic tools differ by platform, and their measurements are not interchangeable. Twitch provides Twitch Inspector; Cloudflare documents keyframe-interval and upload-to-duration charts; Amazon IVS documents bitrate and frame-rate time series. These are platform-specific examples, not evidence that YouTube or Gyre exposes the same charts. Consult the documentation for the destination you are actually using before interpreting a metric.

Troubleshoot a stream health warning
- The platform says no signal is arriving: Check the stream’s connection and stream-key setup, then return to the platform’s live health view to see whether the encoder signal appears. For YouTube, use Stream health in the Live Control Room.
- The encoder reports dropped frames: Check connection stability and whether the configured bitrate can be sustained. Compare the warning’s timing with the destination’s ingest-side indicators rather than changing image settings at random.
- The stream is choppy but dropped frames are not rising: Check for separate rendering, frame-rate, or encoding-load warnings. These symptoms can have a different cause from network delivery.
- A prerecorded stream buffers or transfers slowly: Check the file’s optimization status in Gyre Storage before launch. This check addresses source-file readiness, not live network health.
- The dashboards do not make the cause clear: Note the time of the issue, encoder statistics, destination health indicators, and exact error text. Share those details with the relevant platform or service support team.
