It shows traffic conditions, road closures, detours, incidents, construction, cameras and weather information. For route planning, compare travel times and alternate routes in FL511; use the Florida Highway Patrol’s live report as a separate check for reported incidents. Refresh the tools close to departure because conditions can change quickly.
Check Miami traffic and closures on the FL511 map
- Open the FL511 map and search for Miami-Dade or locate the part of the county you need.
- Use the map layers and legend to view the information relevant to your trip. Available map information includes traffic speeds, closures, detours, incidents, road conditions, congestion, construction zones, traffic cameras, message signs and weather.
- Inspect the route and nearby roads for incidents or closures that could affect your drive. When cameras are available, use their snapshots for additional visual context.
- Check the map again shortly before leaving, particularly if you are traveling during severe weather or after a storm.
FL511 is the Florida Department of Transportation’s statewide traveler information system. The FDOT Traffic Engineering and Operations Office describes it as providing real-time information on traffic conditions, roadway incidents, construction, travel times and severe-weather alerts.
Plan a route and compare travel times
If you know your starting point and destination, use FL511’s route information to compare travel times and alternate routes. The FL511 mobile app also provides directions, route selection and travel-time information. Use the map’s traffic, closure and camera context to assess what is happening along the options rather than choosing a route based on time alone.
Use the FL511 mobile app while away from a computer
The official FL511 app brings traffic and incident information to a phone and can display closures, detours and camera snapshots where available. Its Drive Mode supports destination-based route and travel-time choices. Set up a destination before driving; do not handle the phone while the vehicle is moving.

For selected events without repeatedly opening the map, FL511 offers My Florida 511 text or email notifications for saved routes. Alert types can include crashes, construction, congestion, closures, travel-time increases and traffic-speed changes. Signup and notification settings may change, so check the current options on FDOT’s FL511 information page or FL511 itself.
Cross-check reported incidents with the FHP report
Open the Florida Highway Patrol Live Traffic Crash and Road Condition Report and filter the report for Miami-Dade. Entries can include incident type, received time, county, location, remarks and coordinates. This is useful for checking listed reports, but it is not a substitute for FL511’s route map when you need to assess travel times, alternate routes or conditions along an entire trip.
