Use the exchanges’ own historical-report pages and downloadable daily files. On NSE, open Historical Reports or All Reports and download Security-wise Delivery Positions, Full Bhavcopy and Security Deliverable data, plus Bulk Deals or Block Deals. On BSE, use the equity historical-data pages for price-volume data and the Bulk Deals / Block Deals report. Filter by the exact trading date and exchange symbol, then read volume, delivery quantity, delivery percentage, price or VWAP, and deal details together. Keep NSE and BSE records separate because the same company can have different activity on each exchange.
What you can check in official exchange data
NSE and BSE publish several related but different fields. A useful review starts by deciding whether you need ordinary session activity, settlement-oriented delivery data, or a reported large trade.
- Traded volume is the number of shares traded during the session covered by the report.
- Delivery quantity is the quantity reported as deliverable or settled for that session.
- Delivery percentage is delivery quantity divided by traded quantity. When the exchange publishes a delivery-percentage field, use that field rather than recomputing from rounded values.
- Price context includes the close and, where supplied, VWAP or another weighted-average price.
- Bulk and block deal records identify separately reported large transactions or transactions executed through a block-deal window.
These fields answer different questions. Volume tells you how many shares changed hands in trading. Delivery data describes how much of that activity was reported for delivery or settlement. A bulk or block-deal row identifies a disclosed transaction, but it does not by itself explain the buyer’s intention or what happened to the position afterward.

Use the Historical Reports archive
NSE’s Historical Reports archive links to the relevant report families, including Bulk Deals/ Block Deals/ Short Selling Archives, Price, volume and delivery position archives, and Security-wise Historical Price-Volume Data. This is the best starting point when you need older sessions or want to understand which report contains a field.

- Open NSE’s Historical Reports archive.
- Select the archive for price, volume and delivery positions when your primary question is delivery percentage or delivery quantity.
- Choose the Bulk Deals/Block Deals archive when you are looking for disclosed large trades.
- Use Security-wise Historical Price-Volume Data when you need a security-level series of prices and volumes.
- Set the trading date and download the file rather than relying only on an on-screen preview.
Use NSE All Reports for a specific trading day
NSE’s All Reports page lets you choose a trading date and download daily files. For a complete stock check, look for these reports:
- Security-wise Delivery Positions for security-level delivery quantity and related delivery fields.
- Full Bhavcopy and Security Deliverable data for a combined daily price, volume and deliverable-data file.
- Bulk Deals and Block Deals CSV files for separately disclosed transactions.
- Other market-activity and price/volume files when you need turnover or broader session context.
The exact report names can vary slightly with the exchange page’s current layout. Select the file whose date matches the session you are analysing; do not substitute a similarly named file from a different date.
Filter the NSE file correctly
- Open the downloaded CSV or spreadsheet in a program that preserves the original columns.
- Filter the symbol column to the NSE trading symbol, not merely the company’s legal name.
- Confirm the trading date in the file itself. A download made after midnight can still refer to the previous session.
- Record traded volume, delivery quantity, delivery percentage, close and VWAP when available.
- Separately filter the Bulk Deals and Block Deals files for the same symbol and date.
- Save the original files with the date in their filenames so another person can reproduce the check.
NSE notes that its bulk/block-deal page may display only 70 records. If the screen does not show the row you expect, download the CSV; the file is the appropriate source for more records. NSE also warns that data can change following member requests, so retain the download date and revisit the report if a later version is issued.

Use BSE’s security-wise price-volume lookup for the session’s traded activity and the Bulk Deals / Block Deals section for disclosed large trades. Keep the BSE security identifier and the report date with your notes; a company’s BSE code and NSE symbol are not interchangeable.
BSE step-by-step
- Open BSE’s equity historical-data area.
- Choose the security-wise price-volume report and enter the BSE security identifier or the exact security selected by the page.
- Set the trading date or date range and retrieve the row.
- Record volume, the available delivery field, close and any weighted-average or related price field.
- Navigate to Bulk Deals / Block Deals using the path in the BSE FAQ.
- Filter the deal report by date and security, then record client name, buy/sell side, quantity and trade or weighted-average price where shown.
BSE and NSE can report different volumes, delivery quantities and deal rows for the same company because they are separate venues. Do not combine the rows until you have confirmed that you are intentionally analysing an exchange total and have a method for handling duplicates.

Delivery percentage: formula and a worked check
The basic calculation is:
Delivery percentage = (delivery quantity ÷ traded volume) × 100

For example, if a report shows 240,000 shares traded and 96,000 shares reported as deliverable, the computed percentage is 40%. Use the exchange’s published percentage when it is present, because the displayed quantities may be rounded or subject to the exchange’s reporting conventions.
Delivery percentage is session-specific. It is not the proportion of a company’s entire share capital held by investors, and it is not the same as promoter holding, institutional ownership or a long-term holding ratio. Always attach the trading date and exchange to the number in a spreadsheet or note.
Bulk deals and block deals are not the same field

A bulk-deal report can aggregate qualifying transactions in the ordinary market, while a block deal is associated with a separately provided execution window and reporting category. Treat the labels as the exchange defines them; do not infer that one category is automatically more bullish, more confidential or more long-term than the other.
Build a reproducible stock check
A small worksheet prevents the most common errors and makes later comparisons possible. Use one row per exchange, security and trading date rather than one row per company.

Store the untouched CSV files beside the worksheet. If a later report changes after a member request, you can compare versions instead of silently overwriting the original.

Read delivery with volume
A high delivery percentage on low volume can represent less absolute activity than a moderate percentage on exceptionally high volume. Compare both the percentage and the delivery quantity, then check whether total volume is unusually high relative to the stock’s recent sessions.
Read delivery with price
Compare the delivery figure with the session’s price change, close and VWAP where available. High delivery alongside a price rise may be consistent with several explanations, including buying and selling by different participants, position transfers or settlement of trades initiated earlier. High delivery during a price fall can likewise reflect more than one motive. The percentage alone does not identify buyer intent.

Read a disclosed deal in context
For each bulk or block row, inspect the date, client, buy/sell side, quantity and trade or weighted-average price. Compare that price with the day’s close and VWAP, but do not assume the named client’s transaction represents the entire market or a continuing position. A disclosed deal is a record of reported activity, not a forecast.

Cross-check NSE and BSE safely
- Match the same trading date, including the exchange’s treatment of holidays and special sessions.
- Verify the security identifier separately on each exchange.
- Keep the NSE and BSE volume and delivery rows in separate lines.
- Compare deal dates, client names, sides, quantities and prices before deciding whether two rows describe related activity.
- Do not add exchange rows when the same transaction may be duplicated or when identifiers have not been confirmed.
- Label any combined figure as an intentional multi-exchange total and document the inclusion rule.
One company can therefore have a higher delivery percentage on one exchange and a lower percentage on the other without either report being wrong. The venues record their own trades and deliverable activity.
Common problems and fixes
The stock does not appear in the file
- Check the exchange symbol or security code rather than a shortened company name.
- Confirm that the date is a trading session and that you downloaded the correct report family.
- Search the raw CSV for alternate punctuation or symbol changes shown in the exchange’s security master.
The web page shows no deal row
Use the downloadable CSV. NSE’s bulk/block page can display only 70 records, while the file contains the additional records needed for a complete date-level search.
The delivery percentage differs from your calculation
- Prefer the exchange-published percentage.
- Check whether one quantity is rounded, amended or expressed in a different unit.
- Ensure that traded volume and delivery quantity come from the same date, security and report version.
A later download changes an old value
Retain both file versions and note the retrieval dates. NSE says data can change following member requests, so an amended report should replace an earlier value only when your analysis records that revision.
NSE and BSE totals do not match
Do not average the percentages or add the rows automatically. Recheck the identifiers, dates, units and whether a deal was reported on one venue only. Differences are expected when the underlying trades occurred on different exchanges.
Minimum checklist for a defensible conclusion
- Exchange and exact security identifier are recorded.
- Trading date matches every price, volume, delivery and deal field.
- Volume is distinguished from delivery quantity.
- Delivery percentage is the exchange value or a transparent calculation.
- Close or VWAP provides price context.
- Bulk and block deals are kept as separate categories.
- Client, side, quantity and price are captured for every deal row.
- Downloaded files are retained because reports can be amended.
- NSE and BSE rows are not combined without an explicit, duplicate-safe rule.
Following this process gives you an auditable view of what each exchange reported for a stock on a particular session. It also keeps the interpretation appropriately narrow: delivery data describes reported settlement activity, while bulk and block files describe disclosed trades; neither field, by itself, proves accumulation, distribution or future price direction.
