To check whether your iPhone supports iOS 27, find its model in Settings > General > About, compare it with Apple’s current compatibility list, and check Settings > General > Software Update. Before installing, complete a backup, confirm you have enough free storage, and keep the iPhone connected to power and a reliable internet connection.
Which iPhone models support iOS 27?
Apple’s current iOS 27 compatibility guide lists these iPhones as compatible:

Compatibility can change in later releases, so use Apple’s live list rather than relying on a model list saved elsewhere. iOS compatibility also does not mean every feature is available on every phone: Apple says feature availability can vary by model, region, language, and carrier.
Find your exact iPhone model and check for the update
- Open Settings > General > About and note the model name.
- Compare that name with Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility list.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update. Apple says only updates compatible with your iPhone appear there. If iOS 27 is offered, the phone is eligible to install it.
If the phone needs an earlier update first, install the version shown and then check Software Update again. An update may not appear simply because a model is eligible; the phone must also be able to reach Apple’s update service.

Prepare your iPhone before installing iOS 27
Make and verify a backup
Apple advises backing up before updating so you have a copy of important information. For an iCloud backup, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now. Stay connected to Wi-Fi until the backup completes, then check the date and time shown beneath the backup control to confirm it finished.
If the backup cannot complete because iCloud storage is insufficient, follow the options shown on the phone. Apple’s iCloud backup instructions describe following the onscreen steps to obtain more storage.

Check storage, power, and internet
- Storage: Make sure the iPhone has enough available device storage for the update. If space is low, Apple says iPhone may remove app data that can be downloaded again. You can also offload or delete unused apps using the options described in Apple’s iPhone update troubleshooting guide.
- Power: Keep the phone connected to power during a wireless update.
- Internet: Use a reliable internet connection to download the update and contact Apple’s update service.
Update duration varies with the update’s size and the files on the device; a slowly moving progress bar is not, by itself, proof that the iPhone is frozen.
Install the update from Settings
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Tap Download and Install and follow the onscreen prompts.
- Leave the iPhone connected to power and internet while it downloads and installs. Allow it to restart if prompted.
If iOS 27 has already downloaded, Apple’s iOS 27 instructions say to open Settings, tap Update to iOS 27, and choose Update Now or Update Tonight. Automatic options are available under Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates.

Troubleshoot a missing or failed iOS 27 update
The update does not appear
Confirm the exact model in About and compare it with Apple’s compatibility list. Then check Software Update again while connected to the internet. If an earlier version is required, install it before checking again.
The download or verification fails
Apple lists network or update-server access problems among possible causes. Retry on your current network; if the alert continues, try another network. Apple also suggests updating through a Mac or iTunes. See its update troubleshooting steps for the computer-update options.

The downloaded update will not install
If the same downloaded update repeatedly fails, remove it at Settings > General > iPhone Storage, select the downloaded update, and delete it. Then return to Software Update and download it again, following Apple’s troubleshooting instructions.
A computer update reports a USB connection error
For specified USB errors while updating or restoring through a computer, Apple advises checking the cable and trying the one supplied with the device or another Apple-certified USB cable. This applies to that computer troubleshooting situation, not to a routine wireless update from Settings.
