To check whether construction will affect your University of Washington Seattle campus trip, start with UW Transportation Services for parking and transportation notices, then open the notice for the project near your destination. Use the current UW Seattle campus map for wayfinding, and check Seattle’s Project and Construction Coordination Map separately for nearby street or sidewalk work. Check again on the day you travel: posted schedules can change, and on-site signs take precedence when conditions differ from an online map.

Where to check UW construction parking impacts and campus route closures

Use the source that matches the part of your trip you need to verify. UW Transportation Services covers university transportation notices; Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) covers public right-of-way work. The campus map and accessibility guide help with orientation and route planning, but neither guarantees that a path is open during construction.

How to check for construction impacts before you travel

  1. Open Transportation Services news and parking impacts. Scan the dated updates on the UW Transportation Services site. Open any notice that matches your destination or travel date. A notice about one building, lot or route is not evidence of an impact elsewhere on campus.
  2. Read the matching project notice in full. Look for its last-updated date, phase-by-phase dates, affected parking lots or routes, accessible parking, shuttle or Dial-A-Ride stops, bicycle facilities and temporary directions. Treat stated dates as estimates rather than guarantees.
  3. Plan the campus leg on the current UW map. Search for your destination building or lot and use the map’s directions and parking features to orient yourself. UW transitioned to a new Concept3D map in December 2025; its documentation said redirects from older map URLs would remain through June 30, 2026, after which old links and embeds could stop working. Use the current map page rather than relying on a saved legacy link.
  4. Check accessible-route details separately. UW route information can show paths from parking areas or transit stops to accessible entrances, including routes that use elevators inside buildings to cross the campus hills. Consult the UW Facilities access guide for assisted entrances and routes without stairs. If construction may affect the path, look for project-specific directions and confirm the route on site instead of assuming a general map route remains usable.
  5. Check SDOT if your trip uses a nearby public street or sidewalk. Search the SDOT coordination map for right-of-way work and other events that may affect traffic. Use this alongside UW information, not in place of it.
  6. Recheck close to departure. UW Admissions advises visitors to check Transportation Services news and alerts before traveling. Review the relevant notice again on travel day, then follow current posted signs and staff directions if conditions differ from online information.

What to look for in a project notice

A useful notice goes beyond a headline: check whether it names the exact facility or route you plan to use, when each phase is expected, and what changes for different travelers. For example, a notice may list impacts to parking stalls, accessible stalls, shuttle service, a Dial-A-Ride stop or bicycle lockers. Confirm that the notice’s update date and estimated phase dates apply to your visit.

The C10 notice last updated May 20, 2025 illustrates the level of detail a project notice may provide, including phase-by-phase parking closures, two disability stalls, a Dial-A-Ride stop and bike lockers. Those dates are historical, not evidence of an active closure. UW’s construction parking policy page is primarily for project managers arranging contractor permits and laydown space; visitors looking for current impacts should use Transportation Services updates and the relevant project notice.

Planning an accessible route around campus construction

UW’s campus terrain includes steep areas, and some routes between arrival points and buildings use elevators inside buildings. A path that looks shorter on a general map may not be the right accessible route. Compare the map’s route information with the Facilities access guide, which identifies assisted entrances, routes without stairs and routes described as wheelchair-navigable.

UW cautions that grades and surface conditions vary and that people may need to assess whether a route suits their individual needs. If construction affects an accessible path, seek current project directions and on-site wayfinding; do not assume an alternative route is accessible just because it appears on the map.

Why checking both UW and Seattle sources matters

A campus parking notice and a city street-work map cover different places. UW information is the relevant starting point for university-managed parking, services and campus routes. SDOT’s map covers public right-of-way construction and other events that may affect traffic on nearby streets. If your trip crosses both areas, check both sources so a campus notice does not leave a street or sidewalk closure out of your plan.
