Short answer: Riot’s public support pages reviewed here do not provide a pre-purchase check for a used CPU’s VALORANT or Vanguard ban history. You can check whether a complete PC appears configured to run Vanguard and test whether VALORANT launches on it, but neither proves the device has never been restricted.
Can you check a used CPU’s Vanguard ban history?
Not through a public Riot lookup or procedure identified in Riot’s support guidance. That guidance covers Vanguard restrictions, system configuration, and error troubleshooting—not a buyer-facing way to look up a CPU or device’s past enforcement status. See Riot’s Vanguard Restrictions article and its VAN 9002 and security configuration guidance.
Keep three separate questions in mind: whether the PC meets current Vanguard configuration requirements, whether VALORANT starts and runs on it now, and whether Riot previously restricted the hardware or associated device. The first two can be checked to a degree; those checks do not answer the third.
What you can check before buying
Identify the complete platform
Ask for the motherboard model, CPU model, and installed operating system—not just the processor name. Riot’s restriction guidance points users to motherboard and CPU details when providing applicable configuration instructions. Those details can help explain compatibility or setup issues, but they are not a ban-status lookup.

- 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, bundled with the AMD Wraith Stealth cooler
- 4.2 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 19 MB cache, DDR4-3200 support

Ask for a live test of the PC
If possible, test the complete computer before paying. Ask the seller to launch VALORANT and let you see whether it runs; note any Vanguard or game error code shown. A launch failure can reveal a current setup or launch problem, and Riot provides error-specific troubleshooting. A successful launch shows only that the game works in that test; it does not certify the device’s past enforcement history.
Agree on return protection
Get the return window and remedy in writing, including what happens if VALORANT is blocked for a device-related reason after the sale. A seller’s statement that a CPU is “clean” is not an official Riot status check.

What Vanguard readiness checks do—and do not—tell you
Riot says Vanguard may restrict access when it detects a computer that appears to facilitate cheating, including because of outdated Windows or particular settings. The restrictions guidance provides configuration steps; Riot’s VAN 9002 page concerns an error associated with Windows Exploit Protection being disabled, while its security guidance covers system requirements and troubleshooting.
These checks concern the PC’s current condition. Passing a TPM, Secure Boot, Exploit Protection, or other readiness check is not evidence that Riot has never restricted the device. Likewise, a configuration error is not by itself proof of a prior hardware ban.

If the issue remains, contact Riot Support and provide the actual error details. Riot is the authoritative party to clarify enforcement questions; the support route does not establish that it will disclose device-ban history to a prospective buyer.
Why an “unban” or identifier-reset tool is not a check
Riot’s reviewed support material does not endorse spoofing, identifier-reset, or purported “unban” utilities as reliable ways to verify a device’s history. Do not treat changing a component or running such a tool as proof that an enforcement restriction has been removed. For an error, use Riot’s guidance and support channel rather than relying on an unofficial tool.

Use this buying decision framework
- Platform: Confirm the CPU, motherboard, and operating system being sold.
- Current readiness: Check whether the complete PC can be configured for Vanguard and whether any relevant error appears.
- Live test: Ask to see VALORANT launch and run, if the seller permits it.
- Protection: Put return terms in writing in case a device-related block appears after purchase.
- Past status: Treat the previous enforcement history as unverified; the public Riot support guidance reviewed here offers no pre-purchase verification method.
