To find a PlayStation game’s real online-service deadline, identify the exact game and platform, check PlayStation’s official decommissioned-servers page, then confirm the announcement on the publisher’s support or service-update page. Record the cutoff time and time zone—not just the calendar date—and convert it to your local time. Finally, read which features are ending and compare the remaining window with the online trophies or modes you still need.
There is no universal PlayStation display that tells each player “you have X hours left.” The reliable estimate comes from the confirmed shutdown timestamp minus the current time, with practical allowance for matchmaking, queues, failed attempts, downloads and maintenance.

The reliable order of checks
Use this sequence whenever you hear that a game is closing its servers:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Identify the exact release: write down the title, PS5, PS4, PS3, PS Vita or PSP version, and your region.
- Check PlayStation’s official decommissioned-servers page: look for the title-specific notice, deadline and affected functions.
- Check the publisher’s support or service-update page: third-party publishers may issue the decisive notice in a different channel.
- Capture the complete deadline: record the date, clock time and time zone, then convert it to your location.
- Read the scope: determine whether multiplayer, user-generated content, online purchases, virtual currency or only a particular mode is being removed.
- Check PlayStation Service Status: rule out a temporary PSN outage or maintenance event.
- Use a tracker only to discover notices: verify its date and time against Sony or the publisher before planning your final sessions.
This order prevents the most common error: treating a community calendar or a date-only headline as the legal, game-specific cutoff.

Start by identifying the exact game version
Server notices can apply to one platform generation, one edition or one region rather than every copy carrying the same name. Before searching, make a small identification record.
Record the platform
- PS5 native version
- PS4 version, including a PS4 game played through backward compatibility on PS5
- PS3 version
- PS Vita version
- PSP version
A PS4 copy and a separate PS5 release can use different services. A notice for one should not be assumed to cover the other. If the game has a cross-generation upgrade, check the notice wording for both versions.
Record edition and region
Note the edition name, disc or digital release, and the country or PlayStation Store region attached to your account. Regional operators sometimes publish separate schedules, and a relisted or remastered edition may have a different backend from the original release. Keep the title exactly as shown in the game’s title screen or your library so that similarly named spin-offs do not get mixed together.
Record what you still need to do
List unfinished online trophies, competitive ranks, co-op missions, downloadable or user-created content, and any purchases that require a live connection. This list will later be compared with the time remaining and the features covered by the notice.
Check PlayStation’s official decommissioned-servers page
PlayStation’s decommissioned-servers page is the first authority for a title that has been formally listed. Search the page for the exact game name, then open the complete notice rather than relying on a search-result snippet.
Read every field in the notice
| Field | What to capture | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Title and platform | The exact product name and console generation | Prevents applying a PS4 or PS3 date to another release |
| Shutdown date | Calendar date and, when supplied, clock time | A date without a time can leave a substantial final-day difference |
| Time zone | UTC or the named regional time zone | Lets you calculate the actual local deadline |
| Functions affected | Multiplayer, user-generated content, purchases, virtual currency or other services | Shows whether offline play and your specific goals survive |
| Additional conditions | Separate dates for platforms, regions or related services | Reveals exceptions hidden by a short headline |
PlayStation notices can end only online functions while leaving offline portions playable. One published example says that, after the stated date, players can no longer access, browse, upload, download or play user-generated-content missions through the inFAMOUS 2 and inFAMOUS Festival of Blood online servers. That wording does not say that the entire games stop launching; it identifies the user-generated-content service that is being removed.
Save the evidence
Copy the notice text into your notes or take a screenshot showing the title, platform, deadline and feature scope. Pages can be updated, and a saved copy helps you resolve later conflicts. Include the retrieval date in your own notes, not in the article’s claim about the game.

For third-party games, PlayStation’s Terms of Service says it asks publishers to provide advance notice of a shutdown. The notice may arrive through an in-game message, a PSN notification or email. Check the publisher’s support site, service-status page, newsroom, account messages and the game’s launch screen.
Match the publisher notice to the PlayStation listing
Compare the title, platform, region, timestamp and feature list line by line. A publisher may announce a staged closure—for example, ending new purchases before multiplayer—or may list a different local time. Do not merge two notices into a broader claim. If the publisher identifies a narrower service, preserve that narrower scope.
When the two sources disagree
Use this decision order:
- Prefer a current, title-specific notice from Sony or the publisher over a tracker’s entry.
- Compare the exact cutoff time and time zone, not just the date.
- Check that both notices concern the same platform and region.
- Compare which features are affected; one source may describe a component while another describes the whole online service.
- Determine whether one message reports a temporary suspension or maintenance event rather than a permanent shutdown.
- If the conflict remains, contact the publisher’s support channel and avoid assuming that the earlier date is safe.
Convert the cutoff to your local time
Write the deadline in a full timestamp such as YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM UTC. If the notice gives only a date, record it as “time not stated” instead of inventing midnight. A date-only deadline cannot support a precise hour-by-hour countdown.
Manual conversion
- Copy the announced time and its zone exactly.
- Convert that instant to your local zone, including daylight-saving rules if your region uses them on the deadline date.
- Write both versions in your notes, for example, “18:00 UTC / 11:00 local,” so another player can audit the calculation.
- Set a personal stop time earlier than the official cutoff to cover connection failures and final matchmaking.
Spreadsheet calculation
For a timestamp stored in a spreadsheet, subtract the current time from the confirmed cutoff:
=ShutdownTimestamp-NOW()
Format the result as a duration. This produces a mathematical window, not guaranteed play time. A negative result means the deadline has passed; it does not prove that a server is still reachable.
Illustrative example
Suppose a notice states 2026-11-15 18:00 UTC, and your local conversion is 2026-11-15 10:00. At 10:00 local time on that day, the nominal window is eight hours. If you reserve two hours for queues, failed attempts, downloads and an early stop buffer, plan around six usable hours rather than eight. The dates and times in this example are illustrative; use the notice for your own game.
Understand exactly what is shutting down
A server closure is a service change, not automatically a complete game lockout. Build a feature map from the wording of the notice.
| Feature | Question to answer | Possible player impact |
|---|---|---|
| Competitive or cooperative multiplayer | Can you still enter matches, invite friends or complete co-op objectives? | Online trophies and multiplayer progression may become unobtainable. |
| User-generated content | Can players browse, upload, download or play community missions? | Existing content may disappear even if the campaign remains playable. |
| Online purchases | Are new purchases or redemptions disabled before the final shutdown? | Do not postpone a required transaction until the final day. |
| Virtual currency (VC) | Does the service still validate or spend the currency? | PlayStation’s Terms of Service states that VC will not be usable after a game’s online servers are shut down. |
| Leaderboards, cloud or account services | Are these named separately from multiplayer? | Scores or account-linked features can vanish while local saves remain. |
| Offline campaign and local play | Does the notice exclude offline modes? | Those portions may remain playable, subject to the game’s own installation and licensing requirements. |
Never infer the scope from the phrase “servers closing” alone. The operative list is the publisher’s or PlayStation’s feature wording.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSeparate a temporary outage from a permanent closure
PlayStation Service Status reports current PSN incidents and maintenance. Use it after checking the title-specific notice:
- If Service Status shows an active incident, wait for the incident to clear before concluding that the game has closed.
- If Service Status is normal but the game’s own notice gives a past deadline, the title-specific shutdown remains the relevant explanation.
- If both are normal and you cannot connect before the deadline, check the publisher’s service page for a game-specific outage, account restriction or regional issue.
Service Status is a live diagnostic, not a replacement for a decommissioning announcement. A green PSN status cannot extend a game’s published final date, and a temporary red status does not establish a permanent shutdown.
Use third-party calendars only for discovery
A community tracker such as PS-Shutdowns.com can help you find a title or notice you missed. Treat it as an index, not the authority. Open the linked Sony or publisher announcement and verify the platform, region, exact timestamp and affected features yourself.
When a roundup or tracker conflicts with an official notice, use the official notice. If no primary notice is available, label the date as unconfirmed in your personal notes and avoid promising that a trophy or mode will remain available until the source is verified.
Calculate how much practical play time remains
Start with the confirmed local cutoff, then subtract the current local time:
Nominal time remaining = confirmed local cutoff − current local time
Convert that window into a realistic schedule by reserving time for:
- Matchmaking and queueing
- Players leaving or cancelling sessions
- Failed trophy attempts and retries
- Game, system or compatibility downloads
- Temporary regional maintenance
- Breaks and a final safety buffer before the server cut-off
Make a trophy or mode worksheet
| Task | Online dependency | Best-case estimate | Conservative estimate | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example: complete a ranked placement | Live matchmaking | 30 minutes | 90 minutes | High |
| Example: finish a co-op mission | Live session and another player | 45 minutes | 2 hours | High |
| Example: browse community missions | User-generated-content server | 1 hour | 3 hours | Medium |
The rows above are planning examples, not measured requirements for a particular game. Replace them with estimates from a reputable trophy guide and your own progress. When a guide gives a range, use the conservative end. Add the conservative estimates, then compare the total with your usable window—not the nominal window.
Finish irreversible requirements first
- Complete trophies that require matchmaking, a populated lobby or another player.
- Do purchases, redemptions or currency-dependent actions while the service is confirmed available.
- Download or bookmark user-generated content you are allowed to retain locally, if the notice says downloads will end.
- Leave offline collectibles and campaign cleanup for the end when they are not affected by the shutdown.
Do not assume that a trophy will unlock later from a local save if its server validation stops. The notice’s feature scope and the trophy’s requirements determine the risk.
What to do during your final sessions
- Recheck the timestamp: confirm that your device clock and local conversion match the notice.
- Update beforehand: install the game, system and required content while there is still time for a restart.
- Test the online path: sign in, reach the relevant mode and complete one small action before committing to a long session.
- Arrange partners early: invite co-op players before queues become thin near the deadline.
- Keep a buffer: stop new attempts before the official cutoff so a failed run is not stranded at the final minute.
- Capture proof of completion: save trophy notifications or local records if you need to document what you earned.
Common mistakes and their fixes
Mistake: using a date without a time
Fix: find the full timestamp in the notice or publisher message. If none is stated, describe the deadline as date-only and plan conservatively.
Mistake: checking the wrong platform
Fix: match the notice to the platform shown on the game’s title screen, store listing or trophy set. A PS5 release is not automatically covered by a PS4 notice.
Mistake: assuming the whole game becomes unplayable
Fix: inventory the affected functions. Offline campaigns and local modes may remain available when only online services are removed.
Mistake: treating a PSN outage as a shutdown
Fix: compare the live Service Status page with the permanent, title-specific notice and the publisher’s service page.

Fix: use the tracker to locate the title, then replace its date in your notes with the Sony or publisher timestamp.
Mistake: spending virtual currency at the last minute
Fix: complete any currency-dependent action before the deadline. PlayStation’s Terms of Service states that VC is not usable after the game’s online servers shut down.
After the deadline
Once the confirmed cutoff has passed, test only the functions the notice says should remain. Online matchmaking, user-generated-content browsing or uploads, and server-validated purchases may fail even if the disc launches and the offline campaign loads. Keep your local saves, but do not interpret a successful offline start as evidence that the online service has been restored.
If a feature still works briefly after the published time, treat that as a temporary grace period, not a revised deadline. Conversely, an early failure can result from maintenance or a regional outage; consult the publisher and PlayStation status pages before declaring the service permanently unavailable.

The dependable answer to “When do this game’s servers shut down?” is the platform- and region-specific timestamp in a Sony or publisher notice. The dependable answer to “How much time do I have left?” is your own conservative calculation from that timestamp, after accounting for the work and delays required to finish the affected online content.
