To customize Samsung Keyboard on a Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings and search for Samsung Keyboard. There you can adjust its size, layout, and languages. A number-row control is available on some older model-and-software combinations, but Samsung does not establish it as an option on every current Galaxy device.
Before you change keyboard settings
These steps apply to Samsung Keyboard, Samsung’s default keyboard. If you use a different keyboard app, change its settings in that app instead. Menu names and available options can vary by model, software version, selected language, and region. Samsung notes that availability may differ by country, and tablet screens and settings can also vary by provider and software version. Find Samsung Keyboard settings
- Open the device’s Settings app.
- Search Settings for Samsung Keyboard, then open the matching result.
Depending on the device, you may also be able to open keyboard settings from the keyboard toolbar while the keyboard is on screen. Samsung describes both routes in its US guide to Galaxy keyboard settings.
Change keyboard size
- In Samsung Keyboard settings, tap Size and transparency.
- Use the on-screen handles to resize the keyboard, if they appear.
Some versions also offer transparency controls when the keyboard is in floating mode. Available controls depend on the device and software version; Samsung’s Canada support guide describes the size and transparency settings.

Change keyboard layout
- Open Samsung Keyboard settings and tap Layout.
- Review the available button, symbol, or alternative-character options and select the layout you want.
What appears under Layout depends on the device and software version. If you are using a tablet, consult Samsung’s tablet instructions, since tablet screens and settings may differ from those on phones.
Change keyboard language
- In Samsung Keyboard settings, tap Languages and types.
- Tap Manage input languages.
- Enable a language already installed, or download one from the available list.
- With the keyboard open, tap its language icon to switch among enabled languages.
The icon and menu labels can differ by software version or selected language. Samsung’s keyboard-settings guide covers adding and switching input languages.

Show a number row
Check Layout in Samsung Keyboard settings for an option named Number keys or a similar number-row control. Samsung’s Colombia instructions document such a control for the Galaxy S10 on Android 9 and Galaxy A9 2018 on Android 8, so those routes are specific to older devices and software—not a universal current menu path.
If no number-row option appears under Layout, your device may not provide the control in its current software or language configuration. Samsung’s current phone and tablet guides do not establish that every Galaxy keyboard has a dedicated number-row switch. The older examples are in Samsung’s guides for the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy A9 2018.
