For a direct-integrated YouTube destination, edit the Stream Group’s shared Stream Details or customize the YouTube destination. For a scheduled YouTube event added to Switchboard as custom RTMP, make the change in YouTube Live Control Room instead: Switchboard metadata does not push to custom RTMP destinations.
Choose the right editing route
Switchboard has two routes for metadata, depending on the destination setup:
- Direct-integrated YouTube destination: Edit the Stream Group’s Stream Details for shared metadata, or customize YouTube if it needs different wording from the other destinations.
- Scheduled YouTube event connected as custom RTMP: Edit the event in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room. Switchboard says its title and description do not push to custom RTMP destinations, including scheduled YouTube events.
If you are unsure which connection you have, inspect the YouTube destination in the Stream Group. The destination-specific Customize control is available for destinations in a specific group that are not RTMP destinations. See Switchboard’s title and description instructions and its scheduled YouTube event guide.
Change the shared title and description for a Stream Group
Use the group’s main Stream Details when the same title and description should apply to the eligible destinations that have not been customized.

- Open the relevant Stream Group in Switchboard.
- Select the pencil or edit control in the group header.
- Edit the group’s Stream Details, including the title and description.
- Select Save & Next.
The group’s main title appears in the Stream Group header. Its metadata is the default for destinations in that group that have not been customized.
Give the YouTube destination different details
If YouTube needs wording that differs from the group’s shared details, customize the YouTube destination instead.

- Open the Stream Group editor and select Customize beside the YouTube destination. Alternatively, select the blue information button beside that destination.
- If you opened the destination information route, use Destination Settings to edit Stream Details.
- Enter the YouTube-specific title and description, then select Save Changes.
Destination customization is not the route for an RTMP destination. If the YouTube event was added as custom RTMP, edit its details in YouTube instead.
Update a scheduled YouTube event connected as custom RTMP
Switchboard’s scheduled-event workflow creates the event in YouTube Live Control Room and then adds it to Switchboard as a custom RTMP destination. Because Switchboard’s metadata does not push to custom RTMP destinations, make the edit on YouTube:

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Open the scheduled event you want to update.
- Select its Edit control and change the title or description in the event details.
- Save the changes in YouTube.
YouTube’s live stream settings help describes editing metadata from the stream settings page or while scheduling a stream.
What you can edit while live—and title limits
Switchboard says YouTube supports live title editing through its live-edit feature. That support does not establish that every destination supports live edits, or that edits made in Switchboard will reach an RTMP destination. For a scheduled YouTube event connected as custom RTMP, use YouTube Live Control Room.

Switchboard lists YouTube’s stream title limit as 100 characters. The cited official documentation does not establish a description character limit, so this guide does not give one.
Troubleshoot a title or description that does not change
- The other destinations still show the old copy: Check whether you customized YouTube rather than changing the group’s shared Stream Details. Group metadata applies to destinations that have not been customized.
- YouTube did not receive the edit from Switchboard: Check whether the destination is custom RTMP, particularly a scheduled event. Change the metadata on the event in YouTube Live Control Room.
- You cannot find Customize: Switchboard documents that control for a destination in a specific group when it is not an RTMP destination. Verify the connection type and use the appropriate route above.
- The title will not fit: Keep it within Switchboard’s documented 100-character YouTube title limit.
