ApiFlash captures one URL per request at https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage. To process a list, create a separate authenticated request for each page, then run those requests sequentially or concurrently while tracking each result against its original URL. ApiFlash documents a limit of 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400; design your batch around that published limit.
What you need before capturing a batch
- A valid ApiFlash access key from your account dashboard.
- A list of complete page URLs, each beginning with
http://orhttps://. - A place to save or consume each image, plus a way to record which input URL produced it.
The API accepts GET query parameters or POST form data. Use a URL-encoding library or form encoder; do not concatenate arbitrary page URLs into a query string by hand. Keep the access key on a trusted server, not in browser-visible code.
Choose the response format and capture settings
By default, ApiFlash returns image bytes directly, using JPEG output and a 1920×1080 viewport, without full-page capture. If you need a link rather than bytes, request response_type=json; the JSON response can also include extracted HTML or text when those options are requested. Store the result together with the input URL in either case.
Other documented options include PNG or WebP output, full-page capture, custom viewport dimensions, cache freshness (fresh) and TTL, quality, scrolling, CSS selectors, cookies, headers, user-agent emulation, geographic and time-zone settings, and HTML or text extraction in JSON mode. Availability of some options may depend on the account plan, so check the current ApiFlash documentation and plan before relying on them.

For delayed page rendering, consider wait_for or wait_until instead of an arbitrary fixed delay. ApiFlash documents that wait_for aborts capture if the requested selector does not appear within 15 seconds.
Run one request per URL
The following Python example submits each URL independently, saves the returned image bytes, and reports failures per page. It is sequential, so it is a straightforward starting point for short lists. Install the dependency with python -m pip install requests, set the APIFLASH_ACCESS_KEY environment variable, and save the script as capture_batch.py.

If you request a non-default format, set the filename extension to match that format rather than inferring it from the target page’s URL. For production use, persist a per-URL status and retry only the URLs that failed, rather than treating the batch as all-or-nothing.

Run requests concurrently without losing results
Parallel requests can shorten elapsed time for a large list, but they still count against the same request-rate limit. The examples below use bounded workers and keep each future paired with its source URL. The ApiFlash concurrency guide says there is no separate limit on the number of concurrent requests, while the published request rate still applies. That does not mean an unbounded worker pool is a good design: throttle request starts and keep a conservative concurrency setting appropriate to page load times and your account.
Python with bounded workers
This example runs a limited number of requests at a time and handles each result independently. Set the worker count to suit your workload, and add request-start throttling if the batch could exceed ApiFlash’s documented rate.

If you add retries, use backoff for transient errors and avoid rapidly repeating identical failed captures: ApiFlash documents that exact repeated failing requests are limited to five per hour.

Sequential or concurrent?
- Sequential: simpler logging and easier debugging; suitable for a short list or low urgency.
- Concurrent: may reduce total batch time when page captures are independent, but requires a concurrency bound, request-rate control, per-URL result tracking, and isolated error handling.
Protect the key when users submit URLs
For an application used by other people, send requests through your server rather than exposing the ApiFlash access key in client-side JavaScript. ApiFlash’s Nginx guide demonstrates proxying a site endpoint while adding the key server-side. Restrict which target URLs your endpoint will accept and rate-limit that endpoint so a user cannot freely consume your account quota. Handle failures one URL at a time
Check the HTTP status for every request and record the affected URL. ApiFlash documents these response cases:

| 429 | Request-rate limit exceeded | Reduce or throttle request starts; do not immediately resubmit the full batch. |
| 500 | Internal capture failure | Record the page and error, then retry selectively with backoff rather than restarting all successful captures. |
These meanings and limits are ApiFlash-published operational details, not independent test results. The documentation states a leaky-bucket limit of 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400; requests over the burst are terminated with HTTP 429. It also says exact repeated requests that fail are limited to five per hour.

- Each target URL requires its own ApiFlash capture request; estimate usage from the number of URLs and any retries.
- Do not assume successful output merely because the batch process finished. Keep success, failure, and retry state per URL.
- Concurrent execution can reduce elapsed time, but the API’s published request rate still applies.
- Use JSON response mode when your workflow needs a screenshot link or optional extracted content instead of direct image bytes.
- Check the live API documentation for current limits and plan-specific options before deploying, since plan availability can change.
