Set the browser locale before opening the product page, then use the retailer’s own region or currency selector to choose the currency. Locale can affect language and number formatting, but it does not universally override a store’s currency. Verify the product, price, and currency on the page before saving the screenshot.
What locale can—and cannot—control
In Playwright, a browser context’s locale setting changes browser language signaling and locale-sensitive number and date formatting. It can affect navigator.language and the Accept-Language request header. It does not guarantee that a retailer will show a particular currency: stores may determine currency using their own region selector or saved site state. Set locale before navigation so the initial page request uses the intended language settings, then confirm currency on the page.
Playwright’s documentation describes locale and timezone emulation as: “Emulate the browser Locale and Timezone which can be set globally for all tests in the config and then overridden for particular tests.” See Playwright: Emulation and the browser context locale option.
Capture a product page using Playwright
1. Install Playwright
In a new project directory, install Playwright and its Chromium browser:

2. Set locale and viewport before navigation

}shop.example, the product name, and [data-testid="product-price"] are illustrative placeholders, not a tested retailer URL or selector. For a real store, identify its product heading, price, and currency indicator and wait for those specific elements. Do not treat the example’s wait as proof that a particular store has finished updating its price.
3. Select and verify the store currency
- Open the real product URL after creating the locale-configured context.
- If the retailer provides a region or currency control, use that supported control and select the requested market or currency. The interaction is store-specific.
- Wait for the product name, price, and currency indicator to appear and settle. Prefer a condition tied to the page’s actual content over an arbitrary delay.
- Inspect the displayed price and currency before saving. A symbol alone can be ambiguous; use a currency code or the store’s selected-region indicator where available.
Playwright provides browser-context cookie APIs, but that alone does not establish that any specific retailer stores its currency choice in a cookie. If a store remembers a selection, determine its behavior from that store’s own interface rather than assuming a cookie name or format. See Playwright: BrowserContext cookies.

Choose what the screenshot includes
Viewport or full page
page.screenshot() captures the visible viewport by default. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable page:

Full-page capture can produce a tall image, and content that loads only after scrolling may need additional site-specific handling. See Playwright: Page screenshot options.
Viewport, scale, and personal data
Set the viewport in browser.newContext() before navigation when consistent layout matters. A different viewport can change responsive page layout. Playwright screenshot options also support image output settings, scale, and masking. Mask account-specific or personal details before sharing a capture; do not publish customer or account data inadvertently.

Timezone is separate
Set a browser timezone only when the page includes time-sensitive or timezone-dependent content. Timezone configuration is separate from locale, and browser timezone emulation does not set the test runner’s timezone.
Check the result before using it
- Product identity: the screenshot shows the intended product and variant.
- Currency: the displayed price and currency indicator match the requested currency; do not infer success from locale alone.
- Formatting: language and number formatting are appropriate for the selected locale.
- Completeness: product images and relevant purchase information have loaded.
- Clarity: consent dialogs, popups, or other overlays do not obscure the details you need.
- Privacy: account, customer, or other sensitive information is removed or masked before sharing.
Troubleshooting
The page uses the right language but the wrong currency
Locale configures browser language and formatting behavior, not a universal store-currency override. Use the retailer’s region or currency selector, wait for its selection to take effect, and verify the displayed currency and price.
The price is missing or stale
Product data may be rendered asynchronously after the initial document loads. Wait for the actual product and price elements, and, if the site updates price after a region selection, wait for that update before capturing. Replace generic selectors with locators for the store you are using.

The screenshot layout changes between runs
Specify a fixed viewport before navigation. Responsive layouts may differ at other dimensions, so keep viewport dimensions consistent when comparing captures.
The full-page image omits content
Full-page mode captures the scrollable page, but content triggered by scrolling or otherwise loaded lazily may require site-specific interaction or waiting before capture. Confirm the saved image rather than assuming all content loaded.
A remembered currency choice is inconsistent
Do not assume how the retailer persists its choice. Start with a fresh context for a clean run, select the currency through the site UI, and inspect the resulting page. Use cookie APIs only when you have established that the particular site’s behavior requires them.
