This shows the command format; it is not a verified procedure for capturing a logged-in GST Portal page. If you need the invoice document rather than a picture of its webpage, first check whether the GST Portal offers a direct PDF or JSON download for that workflow.
First decide whether you need an invoice file or a picture of a page
A screenshot-like image is useful when you need to preserve the visible layout of a webpage. It is not a substitute for an official invoice document or a structured return export. The GST Portal documents different download routes for different tasks:

The official guidance describes available portal download paths; it does not establish that every account or invoice will expose every format. Use the portal’s current instructions for the workflow you are completing.

Install and check the command
The upstream project describes wkhtmltoimage as a command-line HTML-to-image renderer that uses Qt WebKit. Its project site describes headless use and availability as precompiled binaries or source builds. Installation steps depend on your operating system and package source, so confirm the executable is installed and available on your PATH before capturing. The upstream GitHub repository was archived on January 2, 2023; that applies to that repository and does not establish whether a maintained fork or package exists. Run a basic capture
For a page that is reachable by the renderer without interactive authentication, use:
wkhtmltoimage 'https://example.invalid/invoice' invoice.pngReplace https://example.invalid/invoice with the actual page URL and invoice.png with the output path you want. Quote the URL so characters such as & are not interpreted by your shell. Use options only to address a visible rendering problem
The manual lists controls for screen width, crop size and position, output format, JPEG quality, JavaScript, wait behavior, cookies, headers, and local-file access. These are renderer capabilities, not proof that the current GST Portal will work with them.
- Width and crop:
--widthsets a screen-width guide;--disable-smart-widthmakes width strict. Use--heightand--crop-x,--crop-y,--crop-w, or--crop-hwhen you need a particular region. - Format and JPEG quality:
--formatselects the image format, and--qualitysets JPEG quality on the documented 0–100 scale. An output extension such as.pngor.jpgcan make the intended format clear. - JavaScript and waiting: JavaScript can be enabled or disabled with
--enable-javascriptor--disable-javascript. The manual also documents--javascript-delayin milliseconds and--window-statusfor waiting for a page status value. - Cookies and request headers: the manual documents repeated
--cookiearguments,--cookie-jar, and custom headers. It also lists HTTP authentication and SSL client-certificate arguments. Their presence does not establish compatibility with GST Portal sign-in, OTP, or protected content. - Local HTML: the manual documents
--disable-local-file-accessand--allow. If rendering a local file requires access, allow only the necessary path rather than enabling broader access without a specific need.

Authenticated GST Portal pages are not a verified wkhtmltoimage workflow
The documentation consulted does not verify that wkhtmltoimage can complete a current GST Portal authentication flow or render a protected invoice page. The renderer uses Qt WebKit, and no claim is established here about its support for the portal’s current scripts, login, OTP, or security behavior. A page may work in your browser but fail, remain blank, or omit content when rendered by this tool.
Do not put GST Portal passwords, OTPs, session cookies, or other secrets into a shared command, script, or issue report. Although the manual documents cookie and header options, this is not a recommendation to expose credentials or a workaround for portal access controls.

Check the output before relying on it
Open the generated image at its intended viewing size. Confirm that invoice text and totals are legible, relevant tax details are present, any QR code is intact if one appears, and the page boundaries have not clipped content. If something is missing, compare against the portal page or use the portal’s direct document download when it meets your need. An image capture preserves a rendered view; it does not validate the invoice or change tax records.

The command is not found
The executable is not installed or is not on your PATH. Install an appropriate package or binary for your environment, then check the package’s current status and confirm the executable name before retrying.

The output is blank or incomplete
The URL may require an interactive login, the page may depend on scripts the renderer does not handle, or content may not have loaded before capture. Test only with a page you are authorized to access. For accessible dynamic pages, consult the manual’s JavaScript and wait options; they cannot guarantee compatibility with a protected GST page.
The layout is too narrow or content is clipped
Try a wider --width value and inspect whether smart width is affecting the result. If you intentionally need only part of the page, use the crop controls and verify that no totals or required details fall outside the crop.
The command fails on a local HTML file
Local-file access controls may prevent the renderer from reading related resources. Review --disable-local-file-access and the narrowly scoped --allow option in the manual; avoid granting access to unrelated files.
