To capture a Google results page for an Indian location, choose the city and search settings you want to represent, run the query, check Google’s location explanation at the bottom of the results, and save that explanation with the screenshot. A city in the query or a region preference can shape results, but neither proves Google treated the search as if it came from someone physically in that place.
Set up the search context before you capture
- Record what you intend to represent. Note the target Indian city or area, exact query, Google domain, Search language and region settings, and the date and time. Google’s Search Settings exposes language and region preferences; Google notes that its Search settings are being updated, so labels may vary between sessions.
- Check location permission for Google. In your browser’s site settings for google.com, see whether location access is allowed or blocked. Choose the state that matches your capture purpose and record it. Browser permission can control whether device location is sent to google.com, but it does not override every other location signal.
- Add the place to a local-intent query when appropriate. For example, include the city or neighborhood if that matches the question you are investigating. Google recommends adding a location when nearby results are missing. This is a query cue, not proof of a search from that physical location.
- Run the search and inspect the location explanation. At the bottom of the results page, Google may explain how it estimated your location. Preserve that explanation as part of the evidence.
Google says Search location can draw on device location, your internet address, home or work places, and past activity. Its Search Help page says a stored device-location cookie may be used if location is delayed; that cookie expires after six hours. See Google’s guidance on understanding and managing location when searching.
Capture and label the SERP
- Use your browser or operating system’s screenshot facility to capture the relevant results. If the full area does not fit in one viewport, take overlapping screenshots so no result context is lost.
- Keep the query and Google’s location explanation visible in the capture set. If they cannot fit in the same image, capture both and label them as a set.
- Record the date and time, browser and device, requested city or area, language and region settings, location-permission state, and personalization state where visible.
- Describe the evidence precisely. For example: “Search performed with Mumbai in the query; English language setting; location explanation shown as internet address.” Do not label it “results from a person physically in Mumbai” unless you have evidence of that physical context.
Google says it always estimates a general area for a search, and an IP address can indicate general geography. Precise device location can help with nearby results, but browser permission is only one input. The results page’s location explanation is therefore important context, not a guarantee of a perfectly reproducible SERP.
Do not confuse an ad preview with an organic SERP
Google Ads location targeting and Ad Preview/Diagnosis are for checking advertisements and campaign settings. Google says Ads location targeting uses varying signals, including device, IP, settings, and behavior, and that “100% accuracy is not guaranteed in every situation.” That qualification applies to Ads targeting; it does not make an ad preview an organic-results page equivalent to a search performed by a person in the selected Indian location. Keep ad diagnostics separate from evidence of organic results. See Google Ads guidance on geographic targeting and location and language settings.

Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can capture a public results page through one GET request. The response is a screenshot or PDF, but an API capture should not be described as proof Google evaluated a search from a person physically in a chosen Indian city. The location context still depends on the search setup and signals Google uses.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.google.com/search?q=restaurants+in+Mumbai -o shot.webpSee the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card, with paid plans starting at $5 for 3,000. Can I guarantee that Google shows results as if I were physically in a particular Indian city?
No. A city in the query and Search preferences do not establish physical location, and Google estimates location from multiple signals.
