On a Samsung Galaxy phone, a full-page screenshot is called Scroll capture. Open the scrollable page, press Power/Side + Volume Down, then tap the toolbar button showing a box with downward arrows. Keep tapping or hold that button until the required content is included; the result is saved as one image in Gallery.
Quick method: use Scroll capture
- Open the webpage, article, chat, document or other content you want to save.
- Make sure the content can scroll vertically.
- Press and release the Power/Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture (the box with downward arrows).
- Allow the screen to move down, then tap the button again. On many models, pressing and holding it extends the capture continuously.
- Stop at the desired endpoint. If your model does not finish automatically, tap outside the toolbar.
- Open Gallery > Albums > Screenshots to view, edit or share the long image.
Samsung describes this function as “Scroll capture: Take a long screenshot to capture the whole screen.” The image is automatically resized before it is saved.
What you need before capturing
The current screen must scroll
Scroll capture appears only when Samsung detects that the current screen can move beyond the visible display. A static home screen, an image viewer showing a single image, or another non-scrollable view will normally offer only a regular screenshot.
Expect model and software differences
Button names and menu paths vary by Galaxy model, One UI version, carrier and region. The physical button may be labeled Side rather than Power. Some devices use Screen capture instead of Screenshots and screen recorder in Settings. If a label in this article is not present, look for the equivalent screenshot or screen-capture menu on your phone.

Taking and extending the capture
Use the hardware buttons
Press both buttons together and release them promptly. Holding either button too long can open the power menu or change the volume instead of taking a screenshot. The preview and toolbar should appear along an edge of the display.
Control how far the image extends
Tap the Scroll capture control each time the page advances. Pressing and holding it is quicker on models that support continuous extension, but watch the moving page so you do not include unrelated material. Scroll until the final heading, paragraph, message or image you need is visible, then finish the capture.
Review the saved file
Samsung stores the completed image in Gallery, usually at Gallery > Albums > Screenshots. From there you can crop it, mark it up, send it to another app or share it. A very long capture may be resized by the phone, so check small text before relying on it as a document archive.
If the Scroll capture button is missing
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Tap Screenshots and screen recorder. On some Galaxy phones this is called Screen capture.
- Turn on Show toolbar after capturing.
- Return to a page that scrolls and take another screenshot with Power/Side + Volume Down.
The toolbar setting controls whether the follow-up controls are displayed. It cannot make a non-scrollable or restricted app scrollable. If the toolbar is visible but the downward-arrow button is absent, try a normal webpage or document first; the app may not expose content that Samsung can extend.

Other ways to start the first screenshot
These methods create the initial screenshot. You still choose Scroll capture from the toolbar afterward when the current content supports it.

What Scroll capture can and cannot capture
Webpages, articles, chats and documents
Long webpages and articles are the usual use case, but the same control can work in a scrolling chat, document or settings list. The capture follows the content as Samsung scrolls it; it does not reconstruct material that the app never renders.
Restricted and privacy-protected screens
Samsung warns that some screens or apps do not allow screenshots. Secure Folder and privacy-protected content can behave differently, and an app may deliberately block capture. Scroll capture is not a way to bypass those restrictions; use the app’s permitted export or sharing function instead.
Length and dynamic content
Samsung’s regional guidance says the practical scroll length varies with the content and does not publish one universal maximum. Pages with continuously changing feeds, embedded players, very large images or unusual scrolling can produce an incomplete image. Wait for important content to finish loading and capture in smaller sections if the page does not advance normally.

Troubleshooting common failures
No screenshot toolbar appears
- Enable Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder (or Screen capture) > Show toolbar after capturing.
- Retry with a short, ordinary webpage to distinguish a settings issue from an app restriction.
- Press and release the two buttons together rather than holding them.
The Scroll capture icon is not offered
Confirm that the current view genuinely scrolls. A page that looks long but has reached its end, a full-screen video, and a protected app may not expose the control. Scroll the page manually once, then take a new screenshot.
The image stops too early
Tap or hold the control again after each advance, and wait for lazy-loaded images or text to appear. If the page jumps, use several shorter captures and stitch them instead of forcing one extremely long image.
The result contains blank areas or missing media
Dynamic elements may not render during the automated scroll. Let the page settle, disable an in-page animation if the app provides that option, or capture the affected section separately. Missing content caused by an app’s privacy policy cannot be repaired by changing screenshot settings.
Buttons open the wrong function
On some models the Side key is shared with other shortcuts. Verify that you are pressing Volume Down, not Volume Up, and release both immediately. If the power menu appears, dismiss it and try again with a shorter press.

When native Scroll capture is unavailable
For a non-scrollable or blocked screen, take several ordinary screenshots while moving through the content, then stitch them in an image editor. Leave a small overlap between frames so you can align them accurately. This manual method does not circumvent screenshot restrictions; it works only for portions the phone allows you to capture. An app that supports an official export, print or share command is preferable for sensitive documents.
