On desktop Chrome, the fastest built-in method is DevTools: open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac), type screenshot, then choose Capture full size screenshot. Chrome saves one continuous image containing content below the visible viewport. If you need pages sized for printing or sharing as a document, use Print > Save as PDF instead.
Capture a full webpage as one image on desktop Chrome
- Open the webpage you want to capture and wait for its content to finish loading.
- Open DevTools. Press Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Cmd+Option+I on Mac.
- Click inside the DevTools panel so it has focus.
- Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac).
- Type
screenshotin the Command Menu. - Select Capture full size screenshot.
Chrome captures the whole document, including content outside the visible viewport, and downloads an image. Look in Chrome’s configured download folder. If Chrome is set to ask where each file is saved, choose the destination when prompted.
What “full size” means
The result is a single, tall image rather than a stack of letter- or A4-sized pages. Long pages can produce very large files that are awkward to edit, email, or place in a print layout. For a page-shaped document, use the PDF workflow below.

Save the page as a PDF
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux, or Cmd+P on Mac.
- In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF.
- Choose a filename and location, then save.
A PDF is the better choice when readers need page numbers, standard paper dimensions, or a file that prints cleanly. Web fonts, background colors, fixed headers, ads, and responsive layouts can change during printing, so open the saved PDF and check every page.

Capture only a selected area
- Open DevTools and focus it.
- Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac).
- Type
screenshotand choose Capture area screenshot. - Drag around the region you want and release to capture it.
Keep DevTools docked to the browser window. Chrome documents that area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked. Area capture is useful for a hero image or a single table, but it will not include content outside the rectangle.
Take a long screenshot on Android
- Open the webpage in Chrome for Android.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share.
- Choose Long screenshot.
- Drag the crop handles to include the required length.
- Confirm, then save or share the image.
The Android control lets you adjust the captured length before saving. Do not expect the desktop DevTools shortcuts or labels to appear on a phone.
Save the webpage itself instead of an image
- Open the page in desktop Chrome.
- Choose More > More tools > Save page as.
- Select a location if Chrome asks, then save.
This creates a webpage file, not a visual snapshot. Scripts, remote resources, login-protected sections, and content loaded only after interaction may not work when the file is opened offline. Use Capture full size screenshot when visual fidelity is the priority, or Save as PDF when you need a paginated document.
Make full-page captures more reliable
Wait for lazy-loaded content
Scroll through the page once before capturing if images or cards appear only as you approach them. Confirm that charts, menus, and embedded media have rendered. A screenshot records what Chrome has laid out at capture time; it cannot recover content that never loaded.
Set the viewport before capture
Responsive sites can produce different navigation, columns, and typography at different widths. Resize the browser to the width you need before running the command. If you are documenting a mobile layout on desktop, use DevTools device emulation, then run the same Command Menu screenshot command.

Reduce visual noise
Dismiss cookie dialogs, newsletter prompts, chat bubbles, and temporary overlays before capturing. Fixed-position elements can repeat or obscure content in a tall image. If an overlay cannot be dismissed, try the site’s close control or capture the relevant area instead.
Check the file after download
Open the image and inspect the top, middle, and bottom. Look for missing lazy images, clipped fixed headers, blank iframe regions, or a consent dialog that reappeared during capture. Re-capture after correcting the page rather than trying to repair a defective source image.
Troubleshooting
“Capture full size screenshot” is missing
Make sure DevTools is open and focused, and that you typed screenshot in the Command Menu rather than the webpage’s search box. Reload DevTools if the command list is stale, then try the shortcut again.
The image contains only the visible viewport
You probably used an operating-system screenshot shortcut or selected an area command. Reopen the Command Menu and choose Capture full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot or Capture area screenshot.
The bottom of the page is blank
Look for lazy-loaded sections, blocked third-party frames, or a page that was still loading. Scroll through the document, wait for network activity to settle, and capture again. Content requiring a click or login must be made visible in the page before capture.

The screenshot is enormous
That is expected for a very long page. Crop it into sections for presentations, or use Print > Save as PDF when readers need normal pages.
Area capture does nothing
Dock DevTools back into the browser window. Chrome’s documented area-capture limitation applies when DevTools is undocked.

Return to the print preview, check paper size, orientation, margins, and background graphics, then save again. Because websites supply their own print styles, inspect the final PDF rather than assuming screen layout and print layout match.

Only content that is visible and rendered in your authenticated browser session can be captured. Sign in first and make sure protected sections have loaded.

Why might a website look different in the screenshot and the PDF?
