Use a full-page screenshot command rather than a normal screen capture. In Microsoft Edge, open Screenshot with Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page. In Firefox, choose Save full page. On an iPhone, take a screenshot, tap the preview, select Full Page, then save it as an image or PDF. For repeatable work, Chrome DevTools and Playwright can capture the entire scrollable page.

What a full-page screenshot captures

A full-page capture includes content below the current viewport—the part you normally reach by scrolling—in one image. It is different from a regular screenshot, which records only what is visible on screen. Playwright defines its full-page mode as covering the full scrollable page (Playwright screenshots documentation).

Long pages can produce very tall files. Images, menus, cookie notices and lazy-loaded sections may also change while the browser scrolls. If the result matters for documentation or evidence, wait for the page to settle, dismiss overlays, and check the complete image before sharing it.

Labels and availability can vary by browser version, device, market and operating system. If a menu differs, use the current help page for your version: Edge Screenshot, Firefox screenshots, and Playwright screenshots.

Capture a full page in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the page and wait for its content to finish loading.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open Edge’s Screenshot command from the browser menu.
  3. Select Capture full page.
  4. Review the long preview, then choose the save or copy option offered by Edge.

Microsoft describes this as capturing “an entire webpage in a single screenshot—even content that extends beyond your screen” (Microsoft Edge). Edge’s page notes that functionality can vary by device, market and browser version. A page with an infinite scroll may not have a meaningful end; capture a defined section instead or use an automated script with a maximum height.

Capture a full page in Firefox

  1. Load the target page in Firefox.
  2. Open the page actions menu or right-click the page and choose the screenshot command.
  3. Select Save full page, not Save visible or a region/element selection.
  4. Preview the result, then save it to your chosen location.

Mozilla documents separate choices for a full page, the visible viewport, and selected regions or elements (Firefox Help). If a fixed header appears repeatedly or a sticky widget covers content, hide it temporarily or use the element/region option.

Capture a full page with Chrome DevTools

Chrome’s DevTools includes full-page capture among its screenshot techniques, along with node, mobile and area captures (Chrome for Developers). Because DevTools menus change, use the current interface rather than relying on an old click sequence.

  1. Open the page in Chrome.
  2. Open DevTools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows/Linux), or ⌘+Option+I (macOS).
  3. Open the command menu with Ctrl+Shift+P or ⌘+Shift+P.
  4. Search for the screenshot command and choose the full-page capture option shown by your Chrome version.
  5. Save the downloaded PNG and inspect its top, middle and bottom sections.

DevTools is useful when you need a specific node, emulated mobile viewport or developer-level control. It is less convenient than a browser’s built-in screenshot for a single casual capture.

Capture an entire page on iPhone

  1. Open the page in a supported app, such as Safari.
  2. Take a normal screenshot using your iPhone’s hardware-button combination.
  3. Tap the screenshot thumbnail before it disappears.
  4. Choose Full Page at the top of the editor.
  5. Crop if necessary, then save as an image or choose the option to save to Files as a PDF.

Apple’s iPhone guide documents the Full Page tab, cropping, and saving the result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF (Do it in code with Playwright

Playwright is the practical choice when you need the same capture on every build, a batch of URLs, or a controlled browser context. Its API uses fullPage: true in JavaScript and full_page=True in Python.

JavaScript

import { chromium } from 'playwright';

const browser = await chromium.launch();
const page = await browser.newPage({ viewport: { width: 1440, height: 900 } });
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle' });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
await browser.close();

Python

from playwright.sync_api import sync_playwright

with sync_playwright() as p:
    browser = p.chromium.launch()
    page = browser.new_page(viewport={"width": 1440, "height": 900})
    page.goto("https://example.com", wait_until="networkidle")
    page.screenshot(path="page.png", full_page=True)
    browser.close()

Install Playwright and its browser binaries according to the official documentation. Replace networkidle with an explicit selector wait when the site keeps analytics connections open. For lazy-loaded images, scroll or trigger the page’s loading behavior before the screenshot, then wait for the images you need.

Useful Playwright controls

  • Set a stable viewport so text wrapping does not change between runs.
  • Use page.wait_for_selector() in Python or page.waitForSelector() in JavaScript for a known content marker.
  • Use a locator screenshot when you need one component rather than the entire document.
  • Save to a path for a file, or omit the path and handle the returned image bytes in memory.
  • For pages that never stop loading, combine a finite timeout with a selector or delay instead of waiting forever.

Do not confuse screenshots with saved web pages

A screenshot is a raster image of rendered pixels. Saving a page as a Web Archive or Page Source preserves page data in a different format; it is not an image capture. Apple’s Safari for Mac guide documents those save formats (
