Use Chrome DevTools when you need the entire webpage from top to bottom. Open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+I, press Ctrl+Shift+P, then run Capture full size screenshot. For only the visible screen, press Windows+Shift+S and select an area with Windows Snipping Tool.
Choose the capture scope first
A “website screenshot” can mean two different things:
- Full webpage: an image extending below the current Chrome viewport. Use the DevTools command Capture full size screenshot.
- Visible area: a selected region, window, or screen currently visible in Windows. Use Snipping Tool.
These methods solve different problems. Snipping Tool is quickest for a marked-up region or the current screen; DevTools is the appropriate built-in route for a page that continues below the fold.
Capture a full webpage in Chrome DevTools
Chrome Help Community guidance describes the following sequence for Windows. The command is intended to capture the page at full size rather than only the current viewport.

- Open the webpage in Chrome and wait for the content you want to capture to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+I to open Developer Tools.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+P to open the DevTools command menu.
- Type Capture full size screenshot.
- Select the command with that exact label. Chrome generates an image of the webpage.
- Use Chrome’s download list or download settings to locate the file. The available guidance describes a PNG in a Downloads folder as one user’s result, but it does not establish one universal save location for every Windows configuration.
What this command captures
The result is a full-size webpage image, not a screenshot of the browser’s tabs, address bar, or Windows desktop. It is useful for documentation, design review, and archiving a page whose content extends below the visible viewport.
If the command is difficult to find
- Make sure Developer Tools is open before pressing Ctrl+Shift+P.
- Type the complete phrase, including “full size”; similar commands are not interchangeable.
- Click the page once and reopen the command menu if keyboard focus is in another DevTools panel.
- After capture, check Chrome’s download list rather than assuming a particular folder or filename.
Capture a visible region with Windows Snipping Tool
For a quick selection, Microsoft documents the Windows shortcut Windows+Shift+S. It opens the Snipping Tool overlay, where you can choose the capture mode and region.
- Display the part of the webpage you want to save.
- Press Windows+Shift+S.
- Choose a mode: Rectangular snip, Window snip, Full-screen snip, or Freeform snip.
- Select the area, window, or screen.
- Open the Snipping Tool notification or window to copy, annotate, share, or save the image.
Microsoft also describes PrtSc as a way to open the image-capture overlay and place a full-screen snapshot on the clipboard. Its exact behavior depends on the Snipping Tool configuration.
Chrome DevTools versus Snipping Tool

The available material does not establish that one method has universally better image quality, dimensions, or speed. Select based on capture scope.
Practical checks before saving
- Close or move anything you do not want in a visible-region capture, such as another window or notification.
- For a full-page DevTools capture, verify that the page has finished loading the content you expect before running the command.
- Use the resulting file’s actual format and location rather than assuming a fixed extension or folder.
- If you need annotations, Snipping Tool provides them immediately after a selection; a DevTools full-page image can be opened in an image editor afterward.
Troubleshooting
“Capture full size screenshot” does not appear
Reopen DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I, then open the command menu with Ctrl+Shift+P and type the label exactly. The command menu is context-sensitive, so ensure the page or DevTools window has keyboard focus.

The result seems to show only the viewport
Run Capture full size screenshot, not a similarly named visible-area capture. The full-size command is the one described for content below the current viewport.
I cannot find the saved image
Open Chrome’s download list and its download settings to see the destination. A report of a PNG in Downloads is not a guarantee that every Windows 10 installation uses that folder.
Windows+Shift+S does nothing
Try PrtSc if that shortcut is enabled on the computer, then check the Snipping Tool configuration. Keyboard policies, utility software, or a changed shortcut can affect the overlay.

That is expected from a normal region, window, or full-screen snip: it records what is visible. Scroll and take additional captures, or use Chrome DevTools for one full-page image.
The page changes while you capture it
Wait until the page reaches the state you need, then run the DevTools command. A visible-region snip records the screen at the instant you drag the selection, so moving content can change what is included.

Windows 10 and Chrome compatibility notes
This procedure is written for Chrome on Windows 10. Google’s current Chrome installation guidance lists Windows 10 and later for Intel processors; its listed ARM processor support starts with Windows 11. Do not extend that ARM statement to Windows 10 without checking the device and Chrome requirements that apply to it.
The phrase “extended screenshot” is commonly used for a capture that scrolls through the rest of a page. In Chrome, the documented community sequence above is the practical route described here; it should not be presented as a dedicated Chrome toolbar button.
