Thumbalizr’s documented Embed API does not explain how to send session cookies, authorization headers, or perform a scripted login. That means its published instructions do not confirm that it can capture a page after sign-in. Before relying on Thumbalizr for private content, ask its support team whether it supports your site’s authentication method and how it handles credentials and screenshots.
What Thumbalizr documents—and what it does not
Thumbalizr documents URL-based screenshot capture through its Embed API. The request uses an API key and a secret-derived token, along with a target URL and optional rendering parameters. Its reviewed API documentation describes options such as image format, JPEG quality, thumbnail width, page or screen capture size, delay, browser dimensions, and browser country; availability depends on subscription tier. That documentation does not describe supplying a logged-in browser session, cookies, authorization headers, or steps for filling in a login form. A URL alone generally identifies the page to request; it does not establish that the renderer has the signed-in state needed to see private content. Therefore, do not assume a Thumbalizr URL request can capture a post-login page.
How to check whether your login workflow is supported
- Identify the authentication type. Note whether the site uses HTTP Basic Authentication, an authorization header or API token, a session cookie, or an interactive login flow with additional steps.
- Ask Thumbalizr support before sending credentials. Confirm whether the current service supports that specific method, whether it can wait for the authenticated destination to render, and what credential and screenshot handling controls apply.
- Confirm you are authorized. Capture only pages and accounts you are permitted to access. Do not use screenshot automation to evade access controls.
- Proceed only with a documented, approved method. If Thumbalizr confirms support, use its current instructions and a permitted plan. If it does not, choose a service whose current documentation explicitly covers the authentication method your site uses.
What a normal Thumbalizr API capture looks like
For a page Thumbalizr’s renderer can access without a login, the documented Embed API endpoint follows this pattern:

The required capture input is the target url. The token is an MD5 digest derived from the query string and secret; the API key and secret are available in the member section after signup. Follow Thumbalizr’s own current examples for URL-encoding parameters and generating the token. Do not put the secret in public client-side code. Rendering options and plan limits
Thumbalizr’s documented parameters cover aspects of rendering, not proof of authentication support. The official demo describes Free output as watermarked, limited to screen size rather than a full-page capture, and fixed at 1280×1024. It describes Silver as offering no watermark and full-page or screen captures at 1280×1024, and Gold and Platinum as supporting larger browser dimensions, custom delay, and US or European browser locations. The Thumbalizr feature page reviewed in 2026 displayed these monthly quotas and one-month prices. They are a dated snapshot of commercial terms, not a guaranteed current quote; verify the current plan details before subscribing.

Check the response status
The API response includes the X-Thumbalizr-Status header, with documented values QUEUED, OK, or FAILED, as well as generated-time and error headers. Use those signals to determine whether a capture is queued, completed, or failed. They report the capture request’s status; they do not establish that a successful image shows authenticated content.
When another service may be a better fit
If you need to capture an authenticated page, compare providers by the exact mechanism they document—not by assuming that one vendor’s feature exists at another. - The image shows a login page. The renderer may not have an authenticated session. The reviewed Thumbalizr API documentation does not provide a cookie, header, or scripted-login recipe. Ask support about the specific authentication type rather than repeatedly changing screenshot dimensions or delay.
- The response says
QUEUED. The request has not yet reported completion. Follow Thumbalizr’s current API instructions for retrieving or checking the result, and inspect the generated-time and error headers. - The response says
FAILED. Read the accompanying error information and verify the target URL, encoded query parameters, and token generation against Thumbalizr’s documentation. - The output is watermarked or not full-page. The official demo describes those restrictions for Free output. Check the current plan terms and whether the selected tier permits the desired capture mode.
- The rendered layout or location differs. Check the configured browser width and height, capture delay, and browser country; some options depend on the subscription tier.
- You are unsure whether credentials are safe to submit. Do not send them until Thumbalizr confirms the workflow and its relevant data-handling controls. Avoid exposing API secrets in client-side code.
Choosing an authenticated screenshot workflow
Before committing to a provider, verify that its documentation matches the site’s actual access method and that the workflow is authorized. Also check whether it can wait for the destination page to finish rendering, what image dimensions and full-page options are available, which browser locations are supported, and how credentials and resulting screenshots are handled. Treat plan quotas and prices as changeable and confirm them directly with the provider.
