On a Mac, open the page in Safari, press Shift-Command-5, choose Capture Selected Window or Capture Selected Portion, and take the screenshot. For a slide, a selected portion usually keeps attention on the useful webpage content; choose the window when Safari itself adds helpful context. The built-in Mac screenshot is a PNG. These steps capture what is visible on screen, not an entire long webpage.
Capture a Safari webpage on Mac
- Open the webpage in Safari and arrange the window so the content you want to show is visible. Before capture, check that the page is in the right state for your client and that unrelated content is out of view.
- Press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot panel.
- Choose Capture Selected Window to include the Safari window, or Capture Selected Portion to frame just the relevant webpage area. With a selected portion, drag the frame to reposition it or adjust its edges.
- Open Options if you need a timer delay or want to change where the screenshot is saved.
- Capture the image and insert it into your presentation. If the floating thumbnail appears, you can drag it directly into a document, email, note, or Finder window, or open it for markup or sharing.
Apple’s Mac screenshot guide documents the Screenshot panel and its options. Screenshots are saved as PNG files; with the keyboard shortcuts, the default save location is the desktop.
Choose the right Mac shortcut
| Shortcut | What it captures | When it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Shift-Command-5 | Opens the Screenshot panel, where you choose a window or a selected portion and access options. | Best when you want to frame the capture deliberately or set a timer or save location. |
| Shift-Command-4 | Lets you drag to select a portion of the screen. | Quickly capture just the relevant part of the webpage. |
| Shift-Command-4, then Space | Lets you select a window or menu bar. | Capture Safari as a window rather than drawing a crop. |
| Shift-Command-3 | Captures the entire screen. | Use only when the full desktop context is needed; it may include more than the webpage. |
Apple lists these keyboard alternatives in its Mac screenshot guide.
Make the image presentation-ready
- Frame for the slide. Select the webpage content your audience needs rather than capturing extra browser or desktop space without a reason.
- Check the visible page state. Confirm the correct content is on screen before capture; the Mac method records the visible screen area.
- Make the file easy to find. Use Screenshot panel options to choose a save location before capturing. The keyboard shortcut workflow saves to the desktop by default.
- Place it without hunting for the file. Drag the floating thumbnail into a document or open it for markup or sharing.
Can Safari on Mac capture a full webpage?
The Mac screenshot steps above capture the screen, a window, or a selected area. Apple’s Mac instructions do not document a Safari command that captures a whole long webpage beyond the visible area, so do not treat Shift-Command-5 as a full-page capture feature.

For a full-page capture on iPhone
Apple documents a separate iPhone workflow for content extending beyond the screen, including an entire Safari webpage: take a screenshot using the device buttons, tap Full Page, then save it as an image to Photos or as a PDF to Files. This is an iPhone option, not the Mac Safari process. See Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide.
Screenshot versus saving a webpage
If you need a visual image of how the page appears for a presentation, take a screenshot. Safari on Mac also offers File > Save As with Web Archive or Page Source. A Web Archive saves webpage material, including graphics, with links that work while the destination pages remain available; Page Source saves the HTML source. Neither is a screenshot image, and some webpages may prevent saving items. Apple describes these formats in its Safari guide to saving part or all of a webpage.

If you need repeatable captures in code rather than taking a one-off Mac screenshot, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; the API accepts output options such as PNG, JPEG, or WebP. Here is the cURL call using the target page as an example (replace the URL as needed):
ScreenshotNeo API documentation
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Cookie and consent banners are accepted before capture and more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with response headers identifying the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients.
The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for free and get 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.
