How do I capture a webpage as a JPEG with an API?
The exact parameter depends on the provider. ScreenshotOne uses a GET-style URL with format=jpeg (and accepts jpg as an alias). Browserless uses a POST request with options.type set to jpeg. In either case, save the response body as an image file rather than treating it as text.

Replace the example URL and key with your target page and private API key. Add full_page=true when you want the full page rather than just the visible viewport.

Browserless: POST request
Browserless takes a JSON body. Its response image type follows options.type; set it to jpeg and use fullPage: true for a page-length capture.

Keep credentials private
Use an environment variable or server-side secret store for API keys in a real application. Do not put a working key in a public webpage, client-side JavaScript bundle, or public repository. The examples use placeholders and are illustrative, not executed tests.
How do I get a full-page website screenshot?
A viewport screenshot contains only the browser area visible at capture time. A full-page screenshot attempts to include content below the fold, and must be enabled in the request: use full_page=true with ScreenshotOne or options.fullPage=true with Browserless.

Long pages can load images and other content only when scrolled into view. Browserless documents scrollPage: true to scroll before capture, which can help trigger lazy loading; it can be combined with full-page mode. ScreenshotOne enables full-page scrolling by default with full_page=true, unless overridden. If part of a page is missing, first check whether it is lazy-loaded or still rendering. Add scrolling or a wait only when needed: extra rendering time can increase request latency, and full-page techniques may render complex layouts differently.

How do I set screenshot quality?
JPEG uses lossy compression: lowering quality can reduce file size but introduce visible artifacts. ScreenshotOne documents image_quality on a 0–100 scale, with a default of 80. Its documentation does not identify one ideal value for every use, so inspect the resulting image at its intended display size and adjust quality to suit the purpose. Quality settings and output behavior are provider-specific; do not assume that the same setting produces identical results across APIs.
For a small preview, smaller files may matter more than fine detail. For visual review or archival use, check text edges, gradients, and image detail before settling on a lower setting. Consult the provider’s current option documentation for the exact parameter syntax.

Troubleshooting incomplete or unusable captures
- The file is not a JPEG: Confirm that the request uses the provider’s documented JPEG option:
format=jpegfor ScreenshotOne oroptions.type="jpeg"for Browserless. Inspect the response type if your application handles responses directly. - The image shows only the top of the page: Enable full-page capture with the provider-specific option. A viewport image is not a full-page image.
- Images or sections are missing: The page may load content lazily or after a delay. For Browserless, try
scrollPage: true; otherwise allow more rendering time. Use these only as needed because waiting adds latency. - The layout changes on a long page: Full-page capture methods can behave differently on complex pages. ScreenshotOne documents a section-based method for complex layouts; consult the provider’s current options and compare the output.
- The saved file cannot be opened: Ensure the program saves raw response bytes, not a decoded text body or an error response, and confirm the output filename has a JPEG extension only when JPEG was actually requested.
- The request fails authentication: Check the key or token, its placement in the request, and whether it is active. Keep it on a trusted server rather than exposing it in public client code.

Should I save the file as .jpg or .jpeg?
Either extension is commonly used for a JPEG image; choose one and keep it consistent with your application.
Does full-page mode always include every element?
Not necessarily. Lazy-loaded content, rendering delays, and complex page layouts can affect the result, so inspect the output for the pages you capture.
