Scroll the page before taking a full-page screenshot, then wait for its images to load successfully. In Playwright, fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page, but it does not necessarily trigger the real scrolling that many sites use to load images. The workflow below scrolls in increments, checks image readiness, and then saves the screenshot.
Why lazy-loaded images can be missing
With native lazy loading, a browser delays fetching an image until it is expected to be needed near the viewport. That means navigating to a page—or waiting for its load event—does not prove that images farther down have loaded. See the MDN <img> reference and MDN loading property documentation.
A full-page screenshot can extend beyond the visible viewport without causing page scripts to observe scrolling. As a result, code that reacts to scroll events or intersection with the viewport may never run for content lower on the page. Playwright documents full-page capture in its screenshot guide; a Playwright feature request describes the scroll-trigger issue and proposes pre-capture scrolling as an option. That request is a proposal, not evidence of a released setting.
Capture after scrolling and checking images in Playwright
Install Playwright in a Node.js project with npm install playwright. Save the following as capture.js, replace the example URL with the page you need, then run node capture.js. The browser scrolls through the document, checks for successful HTML images, attempts to decode them, and saves a full-page PNG.

const { chromium } = require('playwright');

for (let y = 0; y < height; y += step) {
window.scrollTo(0, y);

await pause(300);

// A timeout prevents a broken or blocked image from stalling capture forever.
await page.waitForFunction(

// Decode successful images where supported; do not treat decode failure as success.
await page.evaluate(async () => {
await Promise.all(
[...document.images]
.filter(img => img.complete && img.naturalWidth > 0)
.map(img => img.decode().catch(() => undefined))
);
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
The example’s 150 ms scroll pause, two stable-height passes, and 15-second image timeout are starting values, not guarantees for every site. Increase or adjust them when the page loads slowly, appends content, or uses site-specific loading behavior.
What the readiness checks mean
img.complete alone is not enough: it can be true for a missing source or a failed image. Pair it with naturalWidth > 0 to require available intrinsic image data. See MDN’s documentation for the complete property and the naturalWidth property.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
- The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
- C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
img.decode() can provide an additional signal that image data is ready to render. It can reject if the request fails, the source changes, or image data is corrupt, so the example only calls it on images already reporting a successful load. See MDN’s decode() documentation.
Prefer a page-specific condition when possible
A document-wide image check can include hidden, decorative, or intentionally broken images. If you know the target content, wait for the expected gallery count, an image’s currentSrc, or disappearance of a loading placeholder instead. That makes the condition match what the screenshot needs rather than every image element on the page.

Adapt the workflow for dynamic pages
Pages that append content while scrolling
The sample revisits the page when its height changes and stops after consecutive stable passes. If the site adds rows only after a longer delay, increase the pause or use a page-specific locator to wait for the expected item count. Infinite feeds may never reach a stable height; set a deliberate scroll limit or stop when the needed content is present.
Nested scroll areas and “Load more” controls
Scrolling the document will not necessarily move a nested feed or gallery. Identify and scroll the actual container, or click the page’s “Load more” control. After the interaction, wait for the new item or image locator before taking the screenshot.

Images that are not HTML image elements
The sample inspects document.images, so it does not establish readiness for CSS background images, canvas content, or other app-rendered visuals. Those need page-specific checks, such as waiting for a known element state or application signal. Consent gates, authentication, blocked resources, animations, and network errors can also prevent a complete capture; report or inspect those cases instead of treating a timeout as proof that everything is ready.
Why not wait only for network idle?
networkidle is not a dependable universal signal for image readiness: analytics, polling, and deferred requests can keep traffic active, while the page may still need a scroll to start lazy loads. Playwright’s Page API lists navigation wait states and warns: “DISCOURAGED consider using this method for testing, rely on web assertions to assess readiness instead.” Use a targeted image or page assertion with a timeout rather than assuming network quiescence means the screenshot is ready.

Troubleshooting missing or incomplete images
- Images below the fold are absent: Make sure the page actually scrolls before capture;
fullPage: truealone may not trigger scroll-dependent loading. - The image check times out: Inspect which images have
complete === falseornaturalWidth === 0. A failed, blocked, empty, or inaccessible image will not become successful merely by extending the wait. - Content appears only after clicking: Automate the page’s load button or other interaction, then wait for the resulting content before checking images.
- The feed is inside a panel: Scroll that panel rather than the document, then verify the panel’s expected content.
- The screenshot is still visually incomplete: Check for CSS backgrounds, canvas, animations, consent prompts, or app-specific placeholders; the generic
document.imagestest does not cover all of them. - Scrolling never settles: Infinite pages may keep changing height. Stop after the target content is reached or impose a maximum number of scrolls.

ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL in one GET request and return a screenshot. Its clean-shot steps accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Every plan includes the features; the Free plan provides 1,000 shots per month without a card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Playwright’s full-page screenshot scroll the page automatically?
It captures the full scrollable page, but page scripts that depend on actual scrolling may not run just because the screenshot is full-page.
Why can an image have complete=true but still be missing?
The complete property can also be true for an image with no source or a failed load. Check naturalWidth as well; a value greater than zero indicates image data is available.
