On an iPad, a scrolling screenshot is Apple’s Full Page capture. In Safari, take a normal screenshot, open its preview, choose Full Page, inspect or crop the long preview, then save it as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files. The option appears only when the current app or content supports it; Apple’s documented example is an entire webpage in Safari.
What “scrolling screenshot” means on iPad
iPadOS does not label the feature “scrolling screenshot.” The control is named Full Page and appears in the screenshot editor when the content can be captured beyond the visible screen. It is especially useful for a long Safari webpage, because one capture can include content that would otherwise require several separate screenshots.
Apple documents Full Page for an entire webpage in Safari, but does not publish a complete compatibility list for every app. If Full Page is missing from the preview, the current app or document may not support an extended capture.
How to take a Full Page screenshot on iPad

Open the content
In Safari, load the webpage you want to save. Scroll to any position; the Full Page editor can extend beyond the currently visible area when the page supports it.

Trigger a normal screenshot
On an iPad without a Home button, quickly press and release the top button and either volume button together. On an iPad with a Home button, quickly press and release the top button and Home button together.

Open the screenshot preview
Immediately tap the thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner. If your iPad opens screenshots in a full-screen editor instead, continue in that editor; the controls are the same.

Select Full Page
At the top of the editor, tap Full Page. A tall preview appears on the right. Drag through it to inspect sections that are beyond the original screen.

Crop if necessary
Use the crop controls to remove browser chrome, blank margins, or content you do not want to share. Cropping happens before the file is saved.

Choose the output
Tap Done. To keep an image, choose the image-saving option and tap Save to Photos. To create a document, choose Save PDF to Files, select a folder, and confirm. Ordinary screenshots are saved to the Photos library by default.
Image or PDF: which Full Page output should you use?

The same Full Page preview supplies both routes. Pick the format before tapping Done if you want to avoid repeating the capture.
If the screenshot thumbnail does not appear
Some iPad configurations open screenshots directly in a full-screen editor rather than showing a temporary thumbnail. Apple documents a setting for restoring the thumbnail workflow:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Screen Capture.
- Turn off Full-Screen Previews.
Take another screenshot. A temporary thumbnail should now appear in the lower-left corner, which lets you tap into the editor quickly.

Other ways to trigger the screenshot
The button combinations are not your only entry point. Apple also lists these alternatives:
- Apple Pencil: swipe diagonally upward from either lower corner.
- AssistiveTouch: use its screenshot command if you have the accessibility menu enabled.
- Siri: ask Siri to take a screenshot.
These methods only start the screenshot. To make a scrolling capture, you still open the resulting preview and choose Full Page when that option is available. Apple Pencil is not required.
When Full Page is unavailable
After you open the preview, look for the Full Page tab. If it is not present, iPadOS has not offered an extended capture for that content. Apple’s instructions specifically use an entire Safari webpage as the example and do not establish support for every third-party app, PDF viewer, web app, or scrollable panel.
- Confirm that you captured the actual page or document rather than a small overlay or isolated scrollable panel.
- Try the same workflow on a normal Safari webpage to determine whether the issue is app-specific.
- If the content is only available inside an app that does not expose Full Page, do not assume iPadOS will automatically stitch separate screenshots; the documented procedure does not describe a built-in manual-stitching workflow.
Checking and editing a long capture before saving
The right-side preview is more than a confirmation screen. Drag through it to check that the page reaches the expected end and that important sections were not clipped. Crop before saving if the capture includes navigation controls, a fixed banner, or excess whitespace. For an image, the final file remains in Photos; for a PDF, the final file is placed in the Files folder you selected.

Troubleshooting checklist
The Full Page tab is missing
- Likely cause: the current app or content does not expose an extended capture.
- Fix: test the procedure on a complete Safari webpage. If Full Page appears there but not in the original app, the difference is app support rather than the button timing.
The screenshot was taken, but no thumbnail is visible
- Likely cause: Full-Screen Previews is enabled.
- Fix: go to Settings > General > Screen Capture and turn off Full-Screen Previews. You can also work directly in the full-screen screenshot editor.
The capture stops before the end of the page
- Likely cause: the page did not expose more capturable content, or the selected content is a nested panel rather than the whole webpage.
- Fix: return to the main Safari page, wait for it to finish loading, and repeat the screenshot. Inspect the preview before saving.
The result contains content I did not want
- Fix: use the crop controls in the Full Page preview before tapping Done. This is the documented point at which you can trim the capture.
I need a file I can attach to a document workflow
- Fix: select Save PDF to Files rather than saving an image to Photos, then choose the destination folder.
Privacy and sharing checks
A Full Page capture can include everything below the fold, including account names, order details, comments, addresses, or other information that was not visible when you started. Drag through the entire preview and crop sensitive sections before saving or sharing. Saving to Photos and saving to Files are separate choices, so verify the destination after tapping Done.
