Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo capture a web app beyond the visible browser window, use Chrome DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot command or Firefox DevTools’ screenshot button with full-page capture enabled. Navigate to the exact app state first, then inspect the saved image: dynamic content, nested scroll areas, and sticky elements can affect what appears.
Prepare the app screen before you capture it
- Open the web app and navigate to the exact screen and state your guide needs to show.
- Close menus, dialogs, or other temporary overlays unless they are part of the instructions being documented.
- Choose the capture scope: use a full-page screenshot for content extending below the viewport, a viewport screenshot for the current visible area, or an area or element capture for a specific part of the interface.
Capture a full-page screenshot in Chrome
- Open the app page in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Enable Device Mode using the device toolbar button or the DevTools command menu.
- In the Device Mode toolbar, open More options and choose Capture a full size screenshot.
- Open the saved image and confirm it includes the content and app state your guide requires.
Chrome documents this command as capturing the whole page, including content outside the viewport. See Chrome DevTools device mode.
Capture only a selected area in Chrome
When a full-page image would include too much surrounding content, open the DevTools Command Menu, type “screenshot,” select Capture area screenshot, and drag over the region to capture. See Chrome’s Command Menu documentation.
Capture a full-page screenshot in Firefox
- Open Firefox DevTools settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Use the screenshot button in the DevTools toolbar to capture the page.
- Check the saved image in Downloads and verify the relevant app content is present.
Firefox also documents a Web Console screenshot command with a --fullpage option. Its documentation covers both full-page and element screenshots: Firefox screenshot documentation.
Capture one element in Firefox
To document a component rather than the whole page, open the element in the Inspector’s HTML pane, open its context menu, and select Screenshot Node.

Choose the right capture scope
| Capture type | Use it when | Browser workflow covered here |
|---|---|---|
| Full page | The guide needs to show page content below the visible window. | Chrome Device Mode or Firefox’s enabled screenshot button. |
| Viewport | The instruction concerns only what is visible at the current scroll position. | Use a normal visible-screen capture; the cited full-page instructions do not specify a single viewport shortcut. |
| Selected area | You need a cropped region of the page. | Chrome Command Menu: Capture area screenshot. |
| Element | You need one DOM component without the surrounding page. | Firefox Inspector: Screenshot Node. |
Check the result for web-app-specific problems
Full-page commands do not guarantee that every app design will render as intended. Review the actual saved screenshot before adding it to a guide.
- Missing content: Confirm whether the content is in a nested scroll area rather than the document itself. If it is not included, capture that area or element separately.
- Repeated sticky headers: A sticky interface element may appear more than once in a long capture. If that makes the image confusing, use several viewport or element screenshots instead.
- Clipped content: Check the bottom and edges of the image. Capture a smaller area or split the instructions into multiple screenshots if important content is cut off.
- Changed app state: Dynamic content can change during capture. Recreate the intended state, close transient UI that is not part of the guide, and capture again.
- Unclear instructions in one image: Use sequentially labeled viewport or element screenshots rather than forcing the whole procedure into one long image.
Do not confuse a screenshot with captured-tab scrolling
Chrome’s Captured Surface Control API applies when a web app has already started capturing a browser tab. Scrolling the captured tab requires user permission; that permission workflow is not needed for the ordinary DevTools screenshot steps above. See Chrome’s captured-surface documentation.

Where does Firefox save a screenshot taken with its DevTools screenshot button?
Firefox saves the screenshot in Downloads.
Does Chrome’s full-page screenshot workflow require the Captured Surface Control API?
No. That API concerns scrolling a tab that a web app is already capturing; the DevTools screenshot workflow does not require it.
