Sign in to the website in your regular browser, complete its two-factor authentication (2FA) prompt yourself, open the page you need, then capture it with your computer’s built-in screenshot tool. You do not need to disable or bypass 2FA. On Windows, press Windows logo key + Shift + S; on Mac, press Shift-Command-4 to select an area or Shift-Command-3 for the whole screen. Check the saved image for private information before sharing it.
Capture the page locally after signing in
- Open the site in your usual browser and sign in using its normal process.
- Complete the second-factor check the site requests. Only proceed if you are authorized to access the account and page.
- Navigate to the protected page and wait until the content you need is visible.
- Capture the relevant area using the instructions for your operating system below.
- Open the resulting image, check what is visible, and crop or redact unrelated personal details before sharing when appropriate.
Take a screenshot on Windows
On Windows 10 and Windows 11, press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool capture overlay. Choose a snip mode and select the area you want. Microsoft also documents full-screen and window captures, as well as saving and sharing options; interface details can differ by Windows version. See Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions for the current steps.
Take a screenshot on Mac
- Selected area: Press Shift-Command-4, then drag over the page section you want.
- Entire screen: Press Shift-Command-3.
- Capture controls: Press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app controls on supported macOS versions.
Apple says screenshots normally save to the desktop, and its controls include options to edit or choose a destination. For details on capturing a window or menu, see Apple’s screenshot instructions.
Choosing what to capture and what to share
A selected region usually keeps the image focused on the evidence or page content you need. A full-screen capture may also show your account name, browser tabs, bookmarks, notifications, or other private information. Review the image before you attach or send it, and preserve the details that matter to the intended record when cropping or redacting.

Local screenshots are different from website display capture
The shortcuts above capture locally through your operating system. They are not the same as granting a website permission to receive a stream of your display. The W3C Screen Capture specification covers website display capture and its consent and privacy safeguards; it states that “The user agent MUST NOT capture content that’s behind a partially transparent captured display surface.” That rule concerns web display capture, not ordinary local screenshot shortcuts. You do not need to grant a website display-capture permission for the local method in this guide. See the W3C Screen Capture specification.
Automating capture of a protected page
For a one-off image, signing in and capturing locally is the straightforward route. An automation endpoint may accept existing session cookies, HTTP Basic Authentication, or token headers, but that does not prove it can complete an interactive 2FA prompt or establish a fresh authenticated session. Cloudflare’s Browser Run screenshot documentation describes those supplied authentication methods; it does not claim interactive MFA handling. Use automation only when authorized, and treat cookies, tokens, and credentials as sensitive secrets.

Passkeys can change a site’s sign-in flow. Google describes passkeys as allowing authentication without a password or additional authentication factor, while Apple documents browser APIs for using passkeys subject to the person’s authorization. Neither source establishes which sign-in methods a particular site permits; follow that site’s instructions. Once the page is visible, capturing it remains an operating-system task. See Google’s passkey overview and Apple’s browser passkey documentation.

If you are building an authorized capture workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request takes a URL and returns an image or PDF. This example uses the documented API endpoint and saves the response as a WebP file:

Troubleshooting
The screenshot shows the sign-in page instead of the protected content
Check that the site completed its 2FA flow and that the protected page is visible in the browser before capturing. If a session has expired, sign in again using the site’s normal process.
The shortcut does not open the capture tool
Confirm that you are using the shortcut for your operating system. On Windows, use Windows logo key + Shift + S. On Mac, use Shift-Command-4, Shift-Command-3, or Shift-Command-5. Other versions or platforms may differ; consult the current official help for your device.

The image includes information you did not intend to share
Open the image and inspect it before sending. Make a new, tighter capture or crop and redact unrelated account details, tabs, notifications, or private page content as appropriate.
An automated capture cannot get past the authentication prompt
Do not treat accepted cookies, credentials, or headers as proof that an endpoint performs interactive MFA. Authenticate normally in a browser, or use an authorized workflow supported by the service and the site’s account rules. Do not share session cookies or tokens as ordinary text.
Other devices
The cited Windows and Mac instructions do not establish universal shortcuts for Linux, mobile devices, or every browser. Use the built-in screenshot controls for your device and consult its current official support guidance.
