To capture a Twitter/X thread, open the first post, expand it with Show this thread (or open the post’s thread view), and make sure every post has loaded. Then use your phone or computer’s screenshot tool. iPhone and Android may offer a single scrolling capture; on Windows or Mac, you may need several overlapping screenshots. Prepare the thread before you capture it
A thread on X is a series of connected posts from one person. Threads with four or more posts can be shortened in the timeline, with a Show this thread control. Capturing before expanding can leave out posts, so start with the first post and open the full thread before taking screenshots.
- Open the first post in the X app or at x.com.
- Select Show this thread if it appears, or tap the post to open its thread detail view.
- Scroll through the thread and pause while posts, images, video previews, and other media load.
- Choose a scrolling capture if your device offers one. Otherwise, take consecutive screenshots with a little overlap.
- Review the images from beginning to end for missing posts, clipped text, usernames, timestamps, and media.
Keep the account name and enough of the thread’s connecting lines visible to make the sequence understandable. Crop unrelated timeline material when useful, but retain attribution. If you may need the image as evidence or want to cite it, preserve an uncropped original and the live post URL: a screenshot records what was visible at capture time and is not a substitute for the original post.

Capture a thread on iPhone or iPad
Take a regular screenshot
On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On a model with a Home button, quickly press the side button and Home button together. Tap the screenshot thumbnail to inspect or edit the result; screenshots are saved in Photos.

Try Full Page for one tall image
After taking a screenshot, open its thumbnail and look for Full Page. When the option is available, it captures content beyond the screen and lets you crop or mark up the result. Apple describes this for scrollable pages such as a webpage in Safari.
Full Page may not appear for a thread inside the X app. Its availability depends on the app and capture context, so do not assume the option will work in every view. If it is missing, try opening the thread in Safari and taking a screenshot there. If Full Page still is not offered, capture overlapping sections instead.
Capture a thread on Android
Use Capture more when available
Open the expanded thread and press Power + Volume Down. Tap Capture more if it appears, then adjust the capture area. Google’s instructions apply to Android 12 and up on most screens that allow scrolling; availability is not guaranteed for every app or device.
On Google Photos, look under Collections > On this device > Screenshots. Some manufacturers save screenshots in their own Gallery app’s Screenshots folder.

If Capture more is missing
The X app or device may not expose a compatible scrollable surface. Capture several sections with a small overlap, or try viewing the thread in a browser that supports scrolling capture. Button locations and menu names can differ by manufacturer; consult the device maker’s instructions if the standard button combination does not work.
Capture a thread on Windows
Open the expanded thread in your browser. Use Snipping Tool’s selected-area mode to frame the post column and exclude sidebars, or capture the full screen if the surrounding context matters. Snipping Tool supports full-screen and selected-area captures, but a normal capture does not automatically include content below the visible browser area.
- Capture the first visible section of the thread.
- Scroll down far enough to reveal the next posts, but leave a few lines from the previous capture in view.
- Capture the next section and repeat until you reach the last post.
- Save the files in order, using clear names such as thread-01, thread-02, and thread-03.
A browser’s developer tools or screenshot command may offer full-page capture, but availability and output can change. Inspect the resulting image rather than assuming it included every post and loaded asset.

For a long thread, select a region focused on the post column and repeat as you scroll, keeping a small overlap between images. You can also try a browser full-page capture if one is available. Check each image for lazy-loaded posts and clipped media. Screenshots normally save to the desktop unless you change the destination; the thumbnail can be used for editing.

Check the result before sharing
- Confirm that the first and last posts are present and the posts appear in the intended order.
- Check that usernames, post text, timestamps, and thread-connecting lines are readable.
- Look for clipped text, cut-off images, unloaded media, or blank areas that suggest a capture failed.
- If you made a sequence, retain a visible overlap and label the files in order.
- Keep an original copy before cropping or annotating. If replies, quoted posts, or media are omitted, say so rather than presenting the image as a complete thread.
- Include the original post link when attribution or verification matters.
Troubleshooting
The screenshot only shows one post
The thread may still be collapsed. Return to the first post, select Show this thread or open its detail view, then capture again. If the thread is expanded but the capture is still short, the chosen method may only capture the visible screen.
Full Page or Capture more does not appear
These controls depend on support for the current app or scrollable screen. On iPhone or iPad, try the thread in Safari; on Android, try a compatible browser or capture overlapping sections manually.
Posts or media are missing
Scroll through the thread first and pause for content to load. A screenshot taken before the thread or its media loads may preserve only what was visible at that moment. Review the saved image and recapture any missing area.

Frame the post column rather than the full desktop, or use a larger display scale and capture again. If one tall image makes text difficult to inspect, several readable overlapping images may be more useful than a single compressed view.

There is no clean way to capture the entire thread as one image
Use numbered, overlapping screenshots and keep the original post URL with them. A browser full-page capture or screenshot API may produce a single tall image for a public page, but verify the output: a long image can still omit unloaded posts or media.

Can I save a Twitter thread as one image?
Sometimes. iPhone Full Page, Android Capture more, a browser full-page feature, or a screenshot API may capture a tall page, depending on the app, screen, and thread. When those options are unavailable or unreliable, use several overlapping images.
Does a screenshot prove that a post is still online?
No. It preserves a visual record of what appeared at capture time. Keep the live post URL when readers need to verify the original or its current availability.
