Run that script on a recurring schedule supplied by your computer or hosting environment. The example below uses Playwright; the site’s consent text and selector must be tailored to the page you are capturing.
What the workflow does
- Start a fresh browser context and open the target page.
- Find and activate the site’s real consent control.
- Wait for a site-specific indication that consent was accepted and the page is ready.
- Save a viewport, full-page, or element screenshot.
- Configure your host’s scheduler to run the script at the desired times, and log failures.
There is no universal cookie-banner selector or consent phrase. Some dialogs are inside frames, and sites may store consent in cookies, local storage, or another mechanism. Inspect the target page and adapt the locator and confirmation condition accordingly. Accepting consent is different from hiding the banner with CSS: hiding it does not record the user-facing consent choice.
Set up a Playwright capture script
Install Node.js, then create a project and add Playwright. The following commands use Playwright’s Chromium browser:

Save this as capture.js. Replace the URL, button text, and post-consent condition with details from the page you intend to capture.

})();Run it once with node capture.js before scheduling it. Confirm that the screenshot shows the intended post-consent page, not a still-open dialog or a partially rendered page. The example uses a full-page capture; remove fullPage: true for the current viewport. To capture one component instead, use await page.locator('.target-component').screenshot({ path: 'component.png' }) with a selector that exists on the target page.
Choosing a consent locator and confirmation
Use the visible button or link a visitor would actually select. Playwright’s role-based locator can match an accessible button name, but text and markup vary by site. If the consent control is within an iframe, locate the frame first and interact with its page content. Confirm acceptance using an observable state that belongs to the target site—for example, the banner becoming hidden or a known post-consent element appearing. A successful click alone is not proof that the page has completed its transition.
Viewport, full-page, and element screenshots
- Viewport: captures the current visible screen at the browser context’s configured viewport size.
- Full page: captures the page beyond the visible viewport. Lazy-loaded content may need scrolling or a target-specific wait before capture.
- Element: captures a selected component, useful when the whole page is not needed.

Run captures on a schedule
The scheduler is a feature of the machine or hosting platform running the script; the browser automation code does not create a recurring schedule by itself. Because no operating system, host, frequency, or reliability target is specified here, choose the scheduler documented for your environment.
- Use a stable output directory and include a timestamp in filenames if each run should be retained.
- Ensure the scheduled environment has Node.js, the project dependencies, and Playwright’s installed browser available.
- Record standard output and errors, and configure the scheduler to expose failed exit codes or logs.
- Check the system timezone and scheduler timezone so the run occurs when intended.
- Decide whether each run should start with a fresh context and accept consent again, or reuse storage state where appropriate.
Repeat consent or reuse browser storage state?
Accept the banner on every run
The script above starts a new browser context and performs the interaction each time. This is straightforward when the banner is available on each run and the site’s control can be reliably identified.
Save and reuse storage state
Playwright can save and reuse browser storage state, including cookies and local storage. This may preserve a consent choice between scheduled runs, but only if the target site stores the choice in state covered by that mechanism. Do not assume every site uses a cookie; verify how the specific site behaves. See the BrowserContext documentation for storage-state methods.

If you use a saved state, treat it like session data: keep it in a controlled location and do not expose it in a public repository or output directory. If the site changes its consent mechanism or the saved decision expires, the banner may return; make the run detect that case and handle it rather than silently capturing the wrong state.
Make scheduled screenshots reliable
Standalone screenshot capture does not automatically wait for two identical images. Define a meaningful ready condition for the page—such as a key element appearing or a known loading indicator disappearing—then capture. Network activity, animations, ads, and personalized content can keep changing, so a fixed delay alone may still produce inconsistent results.

Troubleshooting
- Timed out waiting for the consent button: Check the button’s exact accessible name and role in the rendered page. The banner may not appear on every visit, use different wording, or be inside an iframe. Adjust the locator and handle the already-consented case deliberately.
- The click runs but the banner remains: Confirm that the locator targets the affirmative consent choice rather than a preferences or dismiss control. Wait for the site’s actual post-consent state and inspect whether a frame or delayed transition is involved.
- The screenshot still contains the banner: Do not take the screenshot immediately after clicking. Wait for a target-specific hidden-state or post-consent signal, and check that the confirmation is testing the correct banner.
- The page is blank or incomplete: Check navigation errors and the target page’s readiness condition.
domcontentloadedonly indicates an early navigation milestone, not that all dynamic content is ready. Wait for the required content rather than relying on an arbitrary long delay. - Output is overwritten: Use a timestamped filename or another per-run naming scheme if you need a history of captures.
- It works manually but not when scheduled: Verify the scheduled job’s working directory, Node.js executable, installed browser, file permissions, environment variables, and timezone. Read the scheduler’s captured logs for the failing command or path.
- Consent returns on later runs: The choice may expire or be stored in a mechanism not preserved by the state you saved. Recheck the site’s behavior and either accept on each run or update the stored state appropriately.
