You can usually leave Android’s Data Saver on and take a screenshot normally. Open the mobile website, then press Power + Volume down at the same time. Data Saver controls network data use; taking a screenshot is a separate device action.
Take a screenshot with Data Saver on
- Open the website in your browser and display the part of the page you want to save.
- Press Power + Volume down at the same time. If that does not work, briefly hold the Power button and choose Screenshot if your phone offers that option.
- Open the saved image from your phone’s screenshots album.
Button combinations and menus vary by manufacturer and Android version. If neither method works, check the support page for your phone model. Google documents the standard shortcut and Power-menu fallback in Android Help.
Capture a longer page
For a scrolling screenshot, take a screenshot and tap Capture more if the option appears. Adjust the crop guides to include the part of the page you need.
Google says scrolling screenshots are available on Android 12 and later on most screens that allow scrolling. This does not guarantee the option will work on every browser page or phone. If you do not see Capture more, the device or screen may not support scrolling capture. Android Help explains the supported capture flow.

Find the screenshot
In Google Photos, look under Collections → On this device → Screenshots. Some older phones and manufacturer versions of Android use a Gallery app with a Screenshots album instead.
Why Data Saver normally does not prevent screenshots
Android’s system Data Saver reduces or restricts apps’ network data use, including background data and, depending on settings, data access while an app is in use. The screenshot shortcut is a local device control, not a request to download the image from the internet. The Android Open Source Project describes the purpose as giving users “the ability to reduce data use or block it from apps altogether.” Read its Data Saver mode documentation.

That distinction is the best-supported general guidance, not a guarantee for every customized phone or app. If a screenshot fails, investigate the phone controls, storage, or app restrictions rather than turning off Data Saver first.
Chrome Data Saver and websites inside other apps are different cases
Android system Data Saver
This is the phone’s network-data setting. It is the setting covered above and normally does not need to be disabled to take a screenshot.

Older Chrome Data Saver terminology
A 2016 Google Chrome post described a Chrome feature that compressed images and text and optimized HTTP traffic. That is historical context, not a description of Android’s current system setting or a reliable guide to current Chrome options. Google’s 2016 post covers that earlier feature.
A page embedded in another app
If the website is open inside another app, it may be displayed using Android WebView rather than the full Chrome browser. Chrome for Developers notes that WebView does not include Chrome-specific features such as Sync and Data Saver, so an embedded page may behave differently from a page opened in Chrome. Troubleshoot a screenshot that will not work
- The shortcut does nothing: Try the Power-button menu and check the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact phone model. The buttons or menu may differ by device.
- The screenshot does not save: Check that the phone has free storage and that the buttons work. Google lists storage space and faulty buttons among possible screenshot problems in its Android screenshot guidance.
- The browser or app blocks capture: Some apps disable screenshots, and some browsers may disallow them in incognito mode. This is an app or browser restriction, not evidence that Data Saver caused the problem; behavior varies. Google describes these limitations.
- Capture more is missing: Confirm the phone runs Android 12 or later and try a screen that supports scrolling. Not every browser page is eligible.
- The site is inside another app: Identify the host app and phone model. An embedded WebView does not have complete Chrome feature parity, so browser-specific advice may not apply.
