On a Mac, use Safari’s Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode (Control-Command-R) to show a mobile-sized version of a webpage, then capture the visible preview with macOS screenshot controls. Web Inspector helps you debug the page, but Apple’s documentation does not describe a screenshot-export command inside Web Inspector.

Capture a mobile-sized webpage on your Mac

  1. Open the target website in Safari on macOS.

  2. If Safari has no Develop menu, open Safari settings and enable the developer features in the Advanced section. Apple’s current documentation describes this setting; exact labels can vary between Safari releases.

  3. With the target page focused, choose Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode, or press Control-Command-R.

  4. Choose a suggested viewport or enter custom width and height values. Responsive Design Mode lets you adjust the viewport, rotate it, and change its pixel ratio.

Apple iPhone 14, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed)
    • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
    • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
    • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
    • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
  5. To inspect layout or behavior as you work, choose Develop > Show Web Inspector. Use its tools to examine page structure, styles, scripts, and network activity.

  6. Arrange Safari so the preview is unobscured and at the size you want, then use macOS screenshot controls to capture the visible preview. This captures what is on screen; it is not a full-page export from Web Inspector.

Apple documents Responsive Design Mode and Web Inspector, but not a command in Web Inspector that saves a screenshot. For the screen capture, use macOS’s screenshot controls rather than looking for an export option in the inspector.

What Responsive Design Mode can—and cannot—show

Responsive Design Mode is useful for checking responsive layouts and media queries at mobile viewport dimensions. A preset is an approximation, not an exact reproduction of a physical device. Apple notes that the address bar, on-screen keyboard, and device-specific form-field behavior can affect what a page looks like or how it behaves. Apple’s Responsive Design Mode documentation recommends opening the page in Simulator when more accurate device behavior matters.

Inspect Safari on a connected iPhone or iPad

When a responsive preview is not enough, you can use the Mac’s Web Inspector with a live page on an iPhone or iPad. Enable inspection on the device, connect it to the Mac, then select the device and page from the Mac’s Develop menu.

  1. On the iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Web Inspector and enable Web Inspector.

  2. Connect the device to the Mac and respond to a trust prompt if one appears.

  3. On the Mac, open Safari and choose the device and the open webpage from the Develop menu.

After the initial wired setup, Apple says you can enable Connect via Network from the device submenu in the Mac’s Develop menu. See Apple’s instructions for inspecting an iOS or iPadOS device.

Capture an entire webpage on iPhone

If you need a full-page image of a Safari webpage on an iPhone, take a screenshot on the device and choose Full Page in the screenshot preview. Apple Support describes this native workflow as capturing content beyond the screen, including an entire webpage. It is separate from using Web Inspector on a Mac; see Apple’s instructions for taking a screenshot on iPhone.

Or skip the browser setup

For a screenshot returned by an API, send one GET request to ScreenshotNeo. Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your access key and change the target URL as needed; the example saves the response as a WebP file. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
