In Microsoft Edge, choose Screenshot and capture the full page. If you need a searchable, paginated record rather than one tall image, use Print → Save as PDF. For a repeatable capture from code, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF from one API request.
Choose the right kind of capture
A normal screen snip records only the part of the page visible in the browser window. A full-page screenshot includes content below the fold, usually as one tall image. A PDF is different: it lays the page out across pages and is generally more convenient for printing, searching, and reading as a document.
| What you need | Use | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One visual image of the page from top to bottom | Browser full-page screenshot | A very long image can be awkward to open, share, or inspect; check it for missing or repeated content. |
| A document-style copy for reading, printing, or searching | Print → Save as PDF | Print styles can change the page’s layout; the result is not one continuous screenshot. |
| Only a particular section or element | Firefox Developer Tools, or a custom-area capture where available | You need to select the element or region instead of saving the entire page. |
| Markup, redaction, OCR, or PDF export in a screenshot workflow | A full-page capture extension such as Full Page Screen Capture | It adds a third-party extension and its permissions to your browser. |
For a one-off capture, start with a built-in browser feature: it avoids installing an extension. If you need to share the page as a record rather than preserve its exact visual canvas, try PDF first.
Capture a full page in Firefox
Firefox includes a full-page screenshot command. Mozilla describes it as a way to capture visible portions of a webpage or the full page, then copy or save the image.

- Open the webpage and wait for it to finish loading.
- Right-click an empty part of the page, away from text, images, links, and controls.
- Select Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page for the entire document. Choose Save visible if you only want the current viewport.
- Save the resulting image and inspect it from top to bottom, especially if the page loads content as you scroll.
If you do not see the screenshot command, make sure you opened the page’s context menu rather than a link or image’s context menu. Browser labels and menu placement can change between versions; use Firefox’s screenshot controls if the wording differs.
Capture a full page in Microsoft Edge
Edge’s Screenshot feature can capture a full webpage or a selected area, including content beyond the screen. It also supports markup and lets you copy or save the result.
- Open the webpage you want to capture and let it finish loading.
- Open Edge’s Screenshot feature.
- Choose the full-page capture option to include the page beyond the visible viewport, or select an area if you need only part of it.
- Use the markup tools if needed, then copy or save the image.
- Review the saved capture for missing images, clipped sections, or repeated sticky elements.
This is a good built-in route when you want to mark up an image before sharing it. If the exact menu location or wording differs in your Edge version, look for the browser’s Screenshot command rather than assuming the same controls are in every release.
Capture the whole page or one element with Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools provide a more controlled option when you need the entire document or a single element. The full-page screenshot button may not be visible by default, so first enable it in the toolbox settings.

- OPTIMIZE IMAGES AND TEXT – Automatic color detection/adjustment, image rotation (PC only), bleed through prevention/background removal, text enhancement, color drop to enhance scans. Software suite includes document management and OCR software. (4)
- Open Firefox Developer Tools for the page.
- Open the toolbox settings and find Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable the full-page screenshot button if it is not already shown in the toolbox.
- Use the screenshot control to capture the entire page, or select a single element when that is the only content you need.
- Check the output before using it; a technically complete capture can still include overlays or omit content that had not rendered yet.
This route is more involved than Firefox’s context-menu command, but the ability to capture one element can be useful for a specific component, such as a chart or product panel, without taking the rest of the page.
Save a long page as a PDF
Choose Print → Save as PDF when you want a paginated document, not a single tall image. A PDF is often easier to search and print. It is a rendition of the page, however: print styles may change spacing, hide interactive elements, or otherwise make the result look different from the live webpage.
- Open the page and wait for its content to load.
- Open the browser’s print command.
- Choose Save as PDF as the destination.
- Review the print preview. If important content is missing or the layout is unsuitable, try a full-page screenshot or another capture route.
- Save the PDF and open it to confirm the pages and content are present.
Use a screenshot when visual fidelity as one canvas matters more than pagination. Use a PDF when document-style reading, printing, or searching matters more than reproducing the screen layout.
When a full-page screenshot extension makes sense
A Chrome extension such as Full Page Screen Capture is worth considering when the built-in options do not cover your workflow. The research-backed feature set includes full-page, visible-area, and custom-crop capture, plus annotation, blur or pixelation, redaction, OCR, and PDF export.

The trade-off is that an extension is third-party software with its own permissions. Review those permissions and use an extension only if its editing or export tools justify adding it. For a straightforward full-page image, try your browser’s built-in capture first.
Prepare long or dynamic pages before capturing
Full-page capture can expose problems that are easy to miss in the viewport. Lazy-loaded images may not appear until their part of the page is brought into view, and sticky headers or overlays can obstruct or repeat in a long capture. Prepare the page and inspect the saved result rather than assuming that a full-page command guarantees a flawless image.
- Wait for loading: let the page finish loading before starting.
- Trigger lazy content: scroll through the page first so deferred images and other content have a chance to render.
- Clear obstructions: dismiss cookie or consent banners, chat widgets, and other overlays when possible.
- Inspect the whole output: look for clipped sections, duplicated sticky headers, missing images, and blank areas where lazy-loaded content should be.
- Break up extreme pages: for a very long or interactive page, capture logical sections or use a PDF instead of forcing one exceptionally tall image.
- Respect privacy and permission: do not capture credentials, private data, or material you are not allowed to reproduce.
These checks matter because a capture may be technically successful while still being incomplete or unsuitable for sharing.
Or skip the browser setup
For automated captures, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request with a URL returns a screenshot in PNG, JPEG, or WebP, or a PDF. Its clean-shot steps can accept consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. AI agents can use its MCP tools—take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
Here is a one-call cURL example, using Stripe as the target URL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
For endpoint details and options, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. The product also supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets and custom viewports, retina scale, PDF page and layout settings, HTML/CSS input, custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture, hidden selectors, wait conditions, request and resource blocking, custom headers and cookies, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable cache TTL, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work to ease switching.

The screenshot contains only what was on screen
You likely used a visible-area or ordinary screen capture rather than the full-page option. In Firefox select Save full page; in Edge choose the full-page capture option. If you need a section only, choose an area or use Firefox Developer Tools to capture an element.
Images or sections are blank
Some pages defer content until it approaches the viewport. Scroll through the page first, allow it to render, and capture again. Check the resulting image rather than relying on the capture command alone.
A banner or chat box covers content
Dismiss the consent banner, popup, or chat widget before capture if possible. If it cannot be cleared, try a different capture route or capture logical sections so the overlay does not hide important material.
The header appears more than once or content is clipped
Sticky page elements can behave poorly in a long capture. Review the top, middle, and bottom of the output; try hiding or dismissing the element if the browser or capture workflow allows it, or use section captures or PDF instead.
The screenshot command is missing
In Firefox, try right-clicking an empty area rather than a link or image. For the Developer Tools route, enable the full-page screenshot control under Available Toolbox Buttons. Menu labels can change, so check the browser’s screenshot controls if the wording differs.

- Scanner type: Document
- Connectivity technology: USB
- With Auto Scan Mode, the scanner automatically detects what you're scanning
- Digitize documents and images
The PDF looks different from the live page
Print output follows a document layout and may use print-specific styling. If exact visual appearance is more important than page breaks or searchability, return to a full-page screenshot.
Which method should you use?
For a quick one-off capture, use Firefox’s Save full page or Edge’s Screenshot. Use Firefox Developer Tools when you need to capture one element. Choose Print → Save as PDF for a paginated, searchable record; choose an extension when annotation, redaction, OCR, or PDF export in a screenshot workflow is essential. For repeated or automated captures, an API can avoid manual browser steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot include content below the visible screen?
Yes. The purpose of the full-page option is to capture content beyond the current viewport; a normal screen snip captures only what is visible.
Can I save a whole page as one image and still get a searchable PDF?
They are different outputs: the screenshot is one visual canvas, while the PDF is a paginated document. Choose based on whether visual continuity or document-style reading and search matter more.
