APITemplate.io documents generating a paginated PDF from a publicly accessible webpage—not a single, continuous screenshot image. For pages that load content as you scroll, use a browser step to scroll through the page and allow time for new material to render before asking APITemplate.io to create the PDF. This can reduce missing lazy-loaded content, but it is not a guarantee: APITemplate.io’s own Puppeteer guidance warns that its sample page-height calculation does not always work. Check the resulting PDF from beginning to end.
What APITemplate.io captures—and what it does not
APITemplate.io’s URL-to-PDF endpoint accepts a public webpage URL and returns a PDF rendered in headless Chromium. Its documentation describes a paginated document output; it does not establish that this endpoint returns one tall image. If you specifically need a PNG, JPEG, or WebP screenshot, do not mistake a multi-page PDF for a continuous full-page screenshot.
The endpoint requires a publicly accessible URL. The available documentation does not establish how it handles login-gated pages or guarantee successful capture on every site. See APITemplate.io’s PDF-generation methods for the endpoint and supported settings.
Why long and infinite-scroll pages get cut off
Some pages render only what is visible, then fetch or reveal additional content as the visitor scrolls. A PDF renderer that prints the page before this content appears may capture only the initial portion. APITemplate.io’s Puppeteer article specifically warns that lazy-loaded pages, including infinite-scroll pages, may cause problems and recommends scrolling down with waits before generating the PDF.

There is an important limitation: a page can grow while it is being scrolled. Measuring its height once at the start may leave later content out of the scroll range. APITemplate.io’s article explicitly says its example body-height calculation “doesn’t work always.” Scrolling is therefore a way to prompt content to load, not proof that every item has loaded.
Recommended workflow: scroll first, then create the PDF
- Confirm the page is public. Open the URL without signing in and confirm that the intended content is visible. The URL-to-PDF method is documented for publicly accessible webpages.
- Use a browser automation step to scroll down. Set a viewport, move downward in viewport-height increments, and pause after each movement so scripts and images have time to load. APITemplate.io’s Puppeteer guidance demonstrates this pattern and then returns to the top before PDF generation.
- Do not rely on a one-time height estimate for pages that expand. If scrolling causes new content to appear, continue until the page stops growing or until the page’s own completion signal indicates that loading is finished. The cited example does not provide a universal completion test, so select a stopping condition suited to the site.
- Request the PDF from APITemplate.io. Send a POST request to
/v2/create-pdf-from-url, include the page URL, authenticate with theX-API-KEYheader, and provide optional settings as needed. The exact request fields and available settings are documented in the URL-to-PDF reference. - Inspect the produced file. Check the first, middle, and last pages for absent sections, blank areas, missing images, and unexpected page breaks. This is a practical verification step, not a guarantee made by the service.
Choose PDF settings for readable pages
Paper size, orientation, and margins control how captured content is laid out and divided across pages. They do not cause lazy-loaded content to load. APITemplate.io documents these options for its PDF methods. For HTML-controlled output, its custom page-size guidance describes CSS @page behavior when rendering engine version 153 and preferCSSPageSize are configured as specified; consult the current documentation before relying on version-specific settings.
