Scroll down through the page in stages, pause while images appear, then capture the full page and inspect the result—especially its lower sections. For automated captures, do not treat the page’s load event as proof that every lazy-loaded image is ready.
Why full-page screenshots can miss images
Full-page capture and image loading are separate tasks. Playwright’s fullPage option captures the full scrollable page, while browser lazy loading can defer off-screen images until they approach the viewport. A screenshot can therefore include the page’s full height while showing blank or missing images farther down.
The page’s load event is not a reliable signal that lazy-loaded images are ready: MDN explains that it fires when eagerly loaded content has finished loading. An image’s complete property can help check loading state, but it does not prove that the image looks correct or account for every resource a script might add later. MDN’s lazy-loading guide describes these distinctions.
Manual method: scroll before you capture
- Open the page and let its initial content render. Start after the page’s visible content has appeared.
- Scroll down gradually through the document. Give each section a chance to enter the viewport and trigger deferred image loading. Pause when images or other content are still appearing.
- Check the end of the page. If the site appends content as you scroll, decide what counts as the complete page and make sure you have reached that point.
- Return to the top if your capture tool expects it, then take a full-page screenshot.
- Inspect the image, especially below the initial viewport. If an image is blank or missing, scroll that section into view, wait for it, and capture again.
There is no universal wait time that guarantees every site has finished loading. A fixed pause may be too short for one page and unnecessary for another; watch for the actual content to appear.

Automate the capture with Playwright
Playwright documents fullPage: true for capturing the full scrollable page. Scroll through the page first when its images load as they approach the viewport, then use the full-page option:

Wait for site-specific content to settle rather than relying on one delay for every website. Playwright’s screenshot documentation also covers screenshot scale and clipping options, which can help when a very tall capture is difficult to read or creates a large file.

Check image loading state when useful
For an automated check, inspect image completion after scrolling. The complete property can indicate whether an image has finished loading, but it is not a visual quality check and may not account for images inserted dynamically after your check. Verify the result itself when missing images matter.
Handle infinite scroll and dynamic pages
On an infinite-scroll page, scrolling may append more content and change the document height. Decide in advance what constitutes the page you need—for example, a particular section or the point where the expected content ends—and verify that you have reached it before capturing. There is no single completion test that works for every site’s infinite-scroll implementation.

If a particular image is still absent after its section has entered the viewport, check the image’s loading state and the page itself. It may be delayed, failed, or controlled by site-specific script behavior; waiting longer without checking does not guarantee a fix.
Troubleshoot missing or cut-off content
- Lower images are blank: Scroll those sections into view, pause for the images to appear, then recapture. Do not assume the full-page option loads every deferred resource.
- The screenshot stops before the expected end: Check whether the page appends content during scrolling. Establish the intended endpoint and confirm it has loaded before taking the capture.
- The page appears ready, but images remain missing: The
loadevent covers eagerly loaded content, not necessarily lazy images. Inspect the affected images and check their loading state rather than relying on that event alone. - The screenshot is extremely tall or hard to read: Consider Playwright’s documented screenshot scale and clipping options, balancing the full extent you need against readability and file size.
