A full-page capture includes content below the browser’s visible window. Use a built-in tool when your browser provides one: in Microsoft Edge press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page; in Firefox, use Firefox Screenshots and select the full-webpage option. Chrome does not provide the same universally available one-click workflow, so a current extension such as GoFullPage is a practical choice. The exact result depends on the page, especially when it uses lazy loading, nested scroll areas or changing content.
Choose the right capture method
Your browser and desired output determine the quickest approach. A browser feature avoids installing an extension; an extension is useful when you need a repeatable Chrome workflow or export controls. A screenshot is usually one tall image, while printing to PDF creates pages with selectable text and print-style pagination.

Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page and wait for its visible content to finish loading.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Edge’s menu and choose the Screenshot tool.
- Select Capture full page. Edge scrolls beyond the viewport and creates a capture of the webpage, not only the portion currently visible.
- Use the preview controls to copy or save the result, according to the controls shown in your Edge version.
Microsoft documents this workflow at its Screenshot Tool feature page. Before saving, inspect the top, middle and bottom of the image. A page with a fixed navigation bar can show that bar repeatedly or overlap content while the browser stitches sections.
Capture a full webpage in Firefox
- Open the target page in Firefox.
- Open Firefox Screenshots from the page context menu or the browser’s screenshot command.
- Choose the option for the full webpage rather than the visible region.
- Copy the image or save it locally.
Mozilla’s instructions are in Take screenshots in Firefox. If the Screenshot control is not on your toolbar, customize the toolbar and add the Screenshot button. Firefox’s capture is still subject to page behavior: content rendered only after scrolling, embedded frames and separate scroll containers may need a different approach.

Capture a full webpage in Chrome with an extension
Install from the official store
- Open the GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing.
- Check the publisher, requested permissions, privacy disclosure and current reviews, then select Add to Chrome.
- Confirm the installation prompt. Pin the extension from Chrome’s Extensions menu if you want its icon always visible.
The listing’s release history shows version 8.9 dated September 24, 2026, and version 8.8 dated September 10, 2026. Those entries identify releases, not independent measurements of speed, reliability or adoption.
Take the capture
- Navigate to the page you want to save and wait for the initial load.
- Click the GoFullPage icon. If it is hidden, open Chrome’s Extensions menu and select it there.
- Allow the extension to scroll and assemble the page. Do not switch tabs or interact with the page while it is working.
- Review the resulting image and use the current save or export controls shown by the extension.
Chrome Web Store listings can change their interface and advertised capabilities. One listing for Full Page Screen Capture advertises annotation, redaction and PNG, JPG and PDF export; treat those as publisher claims and verify them in the current listing before relying on them.

Prepare the page before you capture
- Load lazy content: Scroll through the page once so images, charts and accordions that load on demand have a chance to render. Return to the top before starting the capture.
- Close transient UI: Dismiss cookie notices, newsletter prompts, chat bubbles and video overlays when possible. They can be stitched into every segment or obscure text.
- Set the intended state: Choose light or dark mode, expand sections you need, sign in when authorized, and set the desired zoom level before capturing.
- Stop animations: Pause carousels and videos. A moving element can appear at different positions in adjacent segments.
- Protect sensitive data: Never capture passwords, private customer records, access tokens or confidential pages unless your policy permits it. Review extension permissions and privacy terms first.
When full-page extensions produce an incomplete image
Lazy-loaded images are blank
The extension may capture before an image enters the viewport. Scroll slowly from top to bottom first, wait for placeholders to resolve, then run the capture again. If the site has a “load more” button, activate it until the desired content is present.
A nested scroll area is missing
A page can contain a table, chat panel or document viewer with its own scrollbar. A full-page tool usually follows the document scrollbar, not every internal container. Capture that element separately, expand it, or use the site’s export function.

Sticky headers or banners repeat
Fixed-position elements may be drawn in every stitched segment. Hide them temporarily with the site’s controls, use a reader mode where appropriate, or crop the finished image. Do not assume the extension can remove every fixed element.
The page changes while it is captured
Ads, live feeds, rotating recommendations and personalized content can shift page height. Wait for the page to settle, disable unnecessary live widgets, and recapture. For an audit trail, record the capture date and the page URL alongside the file.

Browser-internal pages do not work
Extensions commonly cannot capture protected browser pages such as settings, extension-management screens or some PDF viewers. Use the browser’s built-in command where supported, export the document itself, or capture an allowed webpage instead.
Image, PDF or clipboard?
- Long image: Best for visual review, bug reports and design comparisons. It can become difficult to view or share when the page is extremely tall.
- PDF: Better for printing and archiving, but page breaks, headers and selectable text depend on the browser’s print layout rather than the exact screen appearance.
- Clipboard: Convenient for pasting into a ticket or document, but verify resolution and whether transparency, links or annotations survive the paste.
