To capture an entire webpage as a JPG, use Microsoft Edge’s built-in full-page Screenshot and save the result, use Firefox’s full-page tool and convert its PNG download to JPG, or use a Chrome extension that explicitly offers JPG export. A normal screen grab captures only the visible viewport; a full-page capture stitches content below the fold into one image.

Browser interfaces and availability can change. Edge specifically notes that Screenshot functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version. An extension listing describes a capability, not a guarantee that every site, browser policy, or page will behave identically.
Microsoft Edge: capture and save a full page
Edge is the most direct built-in route when its Screenshot feature is available on your installation.
- Open the webpage you are authorized to capture.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- In the Screenshot controls, choose the option for a full-page capture. This captures content below the visible viewport, not just what is currently displayed.
- Inspect the resulting image in the overlay. Check the top, bottom, and any sections that load as you scroll.
- Use the overlay’s save command and select JPG/JPEG if the save dialog offers a format choice. If Edge saves another image type on your version, open that file in an image editor and export it as JPG.
Edge also lets you copy the captured result, which is useful when you need to paste it into a document or image editor rather than save immediately. If the full-page control is missing, update Edge where your organization’s policy allows it, try the right-click menu instead of the shortcut, or use Firefox or a Chrome extension.

Edge capture checks
- Wait for images, charts, and lazy-loaded sections to appear before starting.
- Close menus, translation bars, or floating panels that you do not want in the image.
- Review the entire stitched image for repeated headers, missing backgrounds, or sections that loaded only after interaction.
Firefox: full page first, JPG conversion second
Firefox’s built-in Screenshot tool captures the whole document but downloads a PNG. Selecting Save full page does not change that documented output to JPG.
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page in the upper-right controls.
- Select Download. Firefox saves an image with a
.pngextension. - Open the PNG in an image editor that supports JPEG export.
- Choose Export or Save As, select JPEG/JPG, choose a quality level, and save a new file. Keep the PNG if you may need a lossless original later.
Why the conversion matters
PNG is lossless and often preserves text and sharp interface edges better, while JPG is smaller and widely accepted by upload forms. JPG uses lossy compression, so very high compression can introduce halos around text. For documentation or evidence, use a high-quality JPEG setting and verify that small labels remain readable.
Firefox Developer Tools: full-page or one-element captures
Developer Tools provide a second Firefox route. Open the tools and use the screenshot button in the screenshot toolbox, or run the Web Console :screenshot helper with the --fullpage option. The documented output is PNG, so convert it to JPG with the same image-editor step described above.
Developer Tools are useful when you need only one component rather than the entire document. The --selector option can target a selected page element. This avoids manually cropping a long capture and can produce a cleaner image of a chart, article, or product card.

Chrome: use a JPG-capable extension
Chrome’s researched JPG route is a third-party extension rather than a guaranteed Chrome-native feature. The GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing describes full-page capture and saving compressed JPG files.
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store only if your browser policy permits extensions and you trust the extension’s permissions.
- Open the target page and activate the extension from Chrome’s extensions menu or its toolbar icon.
- Run its full-page capture command and wait while it scrolls or assembles the document.
- Choose JPG in the export controls described by the extension, then save the file.
- Open the saved image and inspect the bottom edge, lazy-loaded media, and any fixed elements.
Extension controls can change between releases. Do not assume that a listing’s export formats or editing features work on every site. A second Chrome listing describes PNG, JPG, and PDF export with editing and redaction features, but it is likewise a third-party option.
Prepare the page so the capture is complete
Load content that appears on scroll
Many pages request images, comments, or product tiles only when they approach the viewport. Scroll through the page once before capturing, or wait after the capture tool reaches each section. If content still remains blank, check whether a consent prompt, sign-in requirement, script blocker, or network failure is preventing it from loading.
Control overlays and fixed elements
Cookie banners, newsletter forms, chat bubbles, sticky navigation, and video controls can cover content or appear repeatedly in a stitched image. Dismiss them when you are permitted to do so. If a banner cannot be dismissed, crop or edit the final image only when that treatment is appropriate for your use; do not remove material that is relevant to the record you are preserving.
Set a practical viewport
A very narrow viewport can create excessive line wrapping and a very wide one can make text tiny in the final JPG. Resize the browser window to approximate the layout you need to document, then capture. Responsive pages may produce a substantially different image at mobile and desktop widths.

JPG quality, dimensions, and file handling
- Choose quality for the destination: use high quality for readable text, and lower quality only when an upload limit requires it.
- Keep the original: retain the PNG or source capture when it may be needed for later edits or verification.
- Name files descriptively: include the site, page, viewport, and date, such as
example-checkout-desktop-2026-09-30.jpg. - Check privacy: full-page images can include account names, addresses, tokens, order numbers, or data below the fold. Redact sensitive information before sharing.
- Respect authorization: capture and redistribute only pages and content you are allowed to reproduce.
Common problems and fixes
The result contains only the visible screen
You used a viewport screenshot rather than a full-page command. Reopen the tool and select full page, Save full page, or the extension’s full-page mode. A keyboard shortcut alone does not guarantee that mode.
Firefox saved PNG instead of JPG
This is expected behavior for Firefox’s built-in tool and Developer Tools. Export the downloaded PNG as JPEG in an image editor; renaming .png to .jpg does not convert the file.
Images or sections are missing
Scroll through the page first, wait for lazy content, and retry after dismissing consent or sign-in prompts. Temporarily test without an ad or script blocker if your policy allows. A failed network request cannot be repaired by the screenshot tool itself.

Hide or dismiss the element before capture when possible. If the browser tool cannot suppress it, use an editor to crop or retouch the result only if doing so does not misrepresent the page.

The capture is extremely tall or unreadable
Capture a relevant element instead of the entire document, use a wider desktop viewport, or split the page into logical sections. One gigantic JPG is difficult to inspect and share even when technically complete.
The extension is blocked
Managed browsers may prohibit extensions, and some pages restrict scripted capture. Use Edge or Firefox’s built-in tools, request an approved extension, or generate the image through an authorized screenshot service.

- Choose Edge when you want a built-in full-page capture and your version exposes JPG saving or an easy export path.
- Choose Firefox when a PNG source is acceptable or a one-step conversion to JPG is fine.
