For a one-off capture, use Firefox’s built-in Take a screenshot of the entire page control. Capture before choosing a consent option if you need the banner as first displayed; make your choice and capture afterward if you need the page in its post-consent state. For scripted captures, Playwright’s fullPage: true option captures the full scrollable page.
Choose which cookie-banner state to capture
First decide what the screenshot needs to show. If you are documenting the banner’s initial appearance, capture before interacting with it. If you want the page after a consent choice, make the choice that matches your preference, wait for the site to update, and then capture. A site may change its layout or content after consent, so the resulting appearance depends on that site.
Capture the whole page in Firefox
- Open the page in Firefox and open Developer Tools.
- Open Developer Tools Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. The screenshot control will appear in the DevTools toolbar.
- Set the page to the state you want to document: leave the banner untouched for its initial appearance, or make your consent choice and wait for the page to update.
- Click the entire-page screenshot button. Firefox saves the image in Downloads.
Use the Web Console instead
Firefox also supports a console command for a full-page capture. Open the Web Console and run:
screenshot filename.png --fullpage
Replace filename.png with the filename you want. As with the toolbar method, capture before or after interacting with the banner according to the state you need.
Automate repeat captures with Playwright
For a scripted workflow, Playwright can save a screenshot of the full scrollable page:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true });
This is the screenshot call to use after your automation has navigated to the page and established the desired cookie-banner state. The Playwright documentation also describes capturing a screenshot to a buffer if you need to process the image rather than save it directly to a file.
Firefox’s built-in control is suited to an individual manual capture; Playwright’s API is suited to repeatable scripted work. Playwright requires browser-automation setup, while Firefox’s control is available through Developer Tools.
Inspecting cookies is not the same as capturing a full page
Chrome DevTools provides a separate cookie-inspection route: open Application > Storage > Cookies and select an origin to inspect cookies stored for that site. That view is for inspecting stored cookies, not for taking a full-page screenshot.
