For one tall image that preserves a webpage’s appearance, use a browser’s full-page screenshot tool. For a paginated document, use print preview and save as PDF. These are different outputs: Firefox’s desktop full-page capture saves an image, while its separate print workflow creates a PDF—and the PDF may look different from the page on screen.
Choose the output you actually need
| What you need | Use | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| A single tall image of the webpage | A browser’s full-page screenshot tool | An image file or clipboard image, depending on the browser. Firefox documents both options. |
| A document for printing or conventional PDF handling | Print preview, then save as PDF | A paginated document with controls for orientation, scale, margins, and page range. The printed layout can differ from the screen. |
| A whole-page capture on iPhone | Firefox’s Full Page screenshot-to-PDF flow or Safari’s Share/Markup save flow | Both browser vendors document an iPhone route, but the steps differ. |
If your requirement specifically says “PDF,” start with the PDF workflow for your device. A screenshot image and a PDF are not interchangeable: one is a visual capture, while the other is laid out as a document.
Save a webpage as a PDF on desktop Firefox
Mozilla’s Firefox printing guidance, last updated August 22, 2024, describes saving a webpage from print preview. Use the preview to check how the page is divided across sheets before saving.
- Open the webpage in Firefox and open the browser menu.
- Select Print to open print preview.
- Set the destination to Save to PDF.
- Review the page range, orientation, paper size, scale, margins, headers and footers, and background settings in the available print controls.
- Check the preview, then save the PDF to the location you want.
Firefox also offers a simplified format when available. It can remove some page styling and, according to Mozilla, disables background printing. Choose the original format if the page’s visual styling or backgrounds matter; use simplified formatting when a cleaner reading layout is more important. Inspect the preview either way, because a website can deliberately render differently for print.

Capture the entire page as an image in desktop Firefox
If you want one long image rather than a paginated PDF, Firefox has a built-in full-page capture. Mozilla’s “Take screenshots in Firefox” guidance was last updated June 15, 2026.
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. Alternatively, press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page.
- Save the image file, or use the option to copy the screenshot to the clipboard.
This produces an image, not a PDF. If a PDF is required, use Firefox’s separate Print workflow above rather than assuming the screenshot command will export a document.
Save a whole webpage as a PDF on iPhone
Firefox for iPhone
Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS instructions, created January 5, 2023, use the iPhone screenshot preview to reach the full-page option.
- Open the page in Firefox and take an iPhone screenshot: press the volume-up and side buttons together, or on an iPhone with a Home button, press the side and Home buttons together.
- Tap the screenshot preview that appears.
- Select Full Page in the preview.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.
Safari on iPhone
Apple’s iPhone guide documents saving a webpage as a PDF through the Share and Markup flow. The Share control’s position can vary with the tab layout.

Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft’s Screenshot Tool feature page, accessed September 29, 2026, describes capturing an entire webpage—including content below the fold—and saving or copying the result. Availability and behavior can vary by device, market, and browser version.
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Start Screenshot from the right-click menu, the Settings menu, or with Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the full-page capture option.
- Use the overlay to copy or save the capture. Edge also supports markup.
Microsoft describes this as a screenshot capture, not a PDF export. If your deliverable must be a PDF, use print preview and check the resulting layout rather than assuming the screenshot tool saves directly to PDF.
What about Google Chrome?
A Chrome Help Community answer posted March 6, 2025, describes using DevTools’ command menu and the Capture full size screenshot command. That is community guidance, not official Chrome documentation, so treat the route as version-dependent: check that the command is present in your installed Chrome before relying on it. It describes an image capture, not a PDF workflow. For a PDF, use Chrome’s print interface and verify its preview before saving.

Check the result before sharing or archiving
A successful save does not necessarily mean the output has the layout you intended. Before sending or filing the capture, open it and check the points that matter for your use:
- For a PDF: confirm the page range, orientation, scale, margins, and whether the chosen original or simplified format preserves the content you need.
- For a full-page image: confirm that you used the full-page option rather than a visible-area capture, and that the saved file is the image you intended to keep.
- For either output: check the result itself. Web pages can be laid out differently for print than for on-screen viewing, and browser capture and print controls are separate workflows.
Troubleshooting
The PDF is split or laid out differently than expected
That is a print-layout issue, not evidence that the browser missed the rest of the page. Return to print preview and adjust the page range, orientation, scale, margins, paper size, or simplified/original format. Mozilla specifically cautions that a webpage may appear differently on paper than it does on screen. Preview the revised layout before saving again.
I cannot find “Save full page” in Firefox
Confirm that you opened Firefox’s Take Screenshot interface and selected the full-page option, rather than using the operating system’s ordinary screenshot command. If the control is still absent, check the Firefox version and whether the command is available in your current browser context. Use Firefox’s print-preview workflow if the required result is a PDF.
Edge’s Screenshot option is missing or behaves differently
Microsoft notes that the tool’s availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version. Check the installed Edge version and the available Screenshot entry points—the right-click menu, Settings menu, or Ctrl+Shift+S. If the feature is unavailable, use another documented browser route or print preview for a PDF.

The Chrome DevTools command is not there
The full-size screenshot route cited above comes from a community answer, not official Chrome documentation. The command may not match your installed version. Do not depend on it as a guaranteed menu path; use Chrome’s print workflow when you need a PDF.
I have a screenshot image but need a PDF
Firefox’s desktop full-page command documents image download or clipboard copy, not PDF export. If the requirement is a paginated PDF, return to the page and use print preview’s PDF destination. That lets you inspect page breaks and layout before saving.
