Open DevTools, use More options → Capture a full size screenshot, and Chrome saves content below the visible viewport as an image. A keyboard route is available through DevTools’ Run Command; for one component instead of the whole page, use Capture node screenshot.
Capture the entire page with Chrome DevTools
This is Chrome’s built-in method and works on ordinary web pages, including pages that extend far below the window. The command is documented in Chrome for Developers’ Device Mode documentation.
- Open the page you want to save in Chrome on Windows. Wait until the content you need is visible and loaded.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I. DevTools normally docks to the side or bottom of the browser.
- Open DevTools’ More options menu (the three-dot button).
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome renders the page beyond the current viewport and downloads an image.
The result is a full-page image rather than a picture of only the portion currently visible. The file is placed in Chrome’s normal download location, and its format follows Chrome’s screenshot output for that command.
If the command is not visible
Make sure DevTools has finished opening and that you are looking at the DevTools interface, not the page’s browser menu. The full-size command is part of the Device Mode tooling. If necessary, open the device-toolbar view inside DevTools and then reopen More options. Browser or organizational policies can also restrict DevTools; in that case an administrator must permit it.

Use the Windows keyboard route
A Google Chrome Help Community post dated August 24, 2022 records a practical command-palette sequence:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+I to open DevTools.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+P to open Run Command.
- Type Capture full size screenshot.
- Select the matching command and wait for Chrome to save the image.
This shortcut sequence is community-sourced, while the Device Mode menu path above is the primary route documented by Chrome for Developers. If the command list shows several similarly named entries, choose the one containing full size screenshot, not a viewport-only capture.
Capture one element instead of the whole page
For a card, table, article, or other single node, use the element-specific command rather than a full-page capture. Chrome’s Chrome 89 release notes describe this workflow:

- Open DevTools and select the Elements panel.
- Locate the element you need. You can use the element picker or expand the document tree.
- Right-click the element in the Elements panel.
- Choose Capture node screenshot.
Chrome captures the complete node, including portions below the fold inside that element. This is different from a full-size screenshot: the page around the selected node is not included.

Prepare a page before capturing
A screenshot records the page state Chrome has at capture time. A few checks prevent avoidable surprises:
- Let important content load. Scroll through the page once if images or sections appear only after interaction. Confirm that the text or images you need are present before invoking the command.
- Dismiss overlays when possible. Cookie dialogs, newsletter prompts, chat panels, and sign-in gates can cover content in the image. Close them before taking the screenshot if the page allows it.
- Set the desired page state. Expand accordions, open tabs, choose a theme, or apply filters before capture. Chrome captures the current state, not every possible state.
- Check responsive layout. If the page is too wide, reduce the DevTools device-mode width or resize the browser before capturing. A full-height image can still be difficult to read when the layout is desktop-wide.
- Verify sensitive data. A full-page image can include account details, email addresses, order numbers, or internal links that are far below the fold.
What Chrome’s full-size screenshot does—and does not—capture
Content below the viewport
The defining feature is vertical coverage: Chrome includes content that is not visible in the current window. You do not need to stitch multiple scrolling screenshots manually.

- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
Collapsed and conditional content
Collapsed accordions, unopened tabs, lazy sections that have not rendered, and content hidden by the page’s own CSS are not magically expanded. Open or load the state you want first.
Fixed headers and sticky controls
Sticky elements may appear according to the page’s layout rules and can repeat or overlap as the page is rendered. If that makes the result unusable, temporarily hide the offending element with DevTools or use the node-capture method for a narrower target.
Protected or failed pages
DevTools cannot capture content that never loaded, is blocked by a sign-in requirement, or is replaced by a bot-check page. Resolve the page’s access problem first; changing the screenshot command will not bypass it.
Troubleshooting
“Capture a full size screenshot” is missing
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I, then check the DevTools More options menu again.
- Use Ctrl+Shift+P and search for full size screenshot.
- Reload the page and reopen DevTools if the tools did not initialize correctly.
- If DevTools is disabled by a managed Chrome policy, contact the administrator.
The image contains only the visible screen
That usually means a viewport screenshot was selected. Run the command named Capture a full size screenshot, not a regular screenshot command. The full-size command is the one intended to include content below the viewport.

Images or sections are missing
Wait for the page to finish loading, then scroll through the relevant areas once and try again. Expand accordions or activate tabs whose contents you need. Some sites render content only after JavaScript events, user interaction, or successful authentication.
A cookie banner or chat widget covers the page
Close the banner or widget before capture. If it cannot be dismissed, inspect the overlay in Elements and temporarily hide it for your local capture; do not publish a screenshot that exposes information you were not authorized to share.

Long pages produce tall image files. Crop the downloaded image for a specific excerpt, or capture the relevant element with Capture node screenshot. For repeatable production work, an API can return a chosen format, viewport, scale, or element instead of requiring a local DevTools session.
The page changes while Chrome is rendering
Dynamic ads, rotating banners, live dashboards, and animations can produce inconsistent results. Pause the activity where the site permits it, wait for a stable state, and capture again. Record the page URL and capture time if the screenshot is evidence that others must reproduce.
Repeatable captures and automation
DevTools is ideal for an occasional manual screenshot. A scripted service is more practical when you need the same URL captured on a schedule, many URLs captured in one operation, or a predictable output for a build pipeline. Useful controls include a fixed viewport, device preset, retina scale, a wait condition, custom headers or cookies, and an explicit output format.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Practical decision guide
- Choose Chrome DevTools when you need a one-off image and can inspect the page yourself.
- Choose Capture node screenshot when the target is one component rather than the complete document.
- Choose ScreenshotNeo when captures must run without an open browser, need cleanup of consent banners and widgets, require API or MCP access, or must be repeated across many URLs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot include content hidden behind a scrollable inner panel?
Only content Chrome renders as part of the captured page or selected node is included. An independently scrollable panel may need its own node screenshot or a page state that exposes the panel’s content.
