To stop a Roku subscription, first determine who bills it. Subscriptions managed by Roku are canceled by turning off auto-renew at my.roku.com; subscriptions managed by a streaming provider must be canceled in that provider’s account. After every Roku-managed subscription is inactive, you can delete the saved payment method from the Roku website.
Canceling auto-renew normally leaves access available through the current paid or trial period. Removing a card or other method is a separate step and is blocked while an active subscription billed through Roku remains.
Start by identifying who controls the billing
The Roku interface can make several billing arrangements look alike. You may watch a channel on a Roku device even though Roku never processes the recurring charge. Before changing anything, identify the account that appears on your receipt, bank statement or email confirmation.

Roku identifies Disney+, Hulu, Sling TV and Netflix as examples of services that can be managed by the provider even when you watch them through Roku. The important distinction is not the channel icon on your television; it is the account that owns the recurring billing relationship.

Cancel a subscription managed by Roku
Use the Roku website when possible because it shows the subscriptions associated with the Roku account and provides the clearest record of the change.
- Open my.roku.com in a current browser.
- Sign in with the Roku account used on the device where you started the subscription.
- Open the account’s Subscriptions area.
- Select the service you want to stop.
- Choose Turn off auto-renew and confirm the prompts.
Roku treats this as a cancellation of the next renewal, not an immediate removal of the service. The subscription remains usable through the end of the billing cycle already paid for. Save the confirmation page or email so you can match the cancellation date with your next statement.
If you are trying to cancel from the Roku device
Some Roku devices expose subscription-management controls on the device itself. Labels and availability can vary by device software and by the way the subscription was created. If you do not see a cancellation command, use the website procedure above rather than deleting the channel. Removing a channel from the home screen does not by itself turn off recurring billing.

If the service is absent from the Roku account’s subscription list, Roku may not control its renewal. Sign in to the service provider’s account, open its subscription or billing settings, and use that provider’s cancellation command. A Roku channel can remain installed after cancellation without creating a new charge.

Why the provider’s account matters
Roku distinguishes subscriptions that it bills from subscriptions that it merely displays. In the latter case, Roku cannot change the provider’s renewal status, trial deadline or refund decision. Use the email address and sign-in method attached to the provider’s account, which may differ from the email used for the Roku account.
Services commonly mistaken for Roku-managed plans
Roku specifically lists Disney+, Hulu, Sling TV and Netflix as examples of services that may be managed by the provider. Their presence on a Roku television does not prove that Roku is the merchant. Check the provider’s receipt or account page before attempting to remove a Roku payment method.
Free trials require a deadline check
A free trial that is set to renew must be canceled before the trial period ends. Turning off auto-renew after the deadline can result in the first paid term starting. Roku states that it does not provide refunds for a partially used term, so check the trial end date rather than waiting for a charge to appear.

When a trial is Roku-managed, follow the same Subscriptions path and choose Turn off auto-renew. When the trial is provider-managed, use the provider’s account. Keep the confirmation showing that the cancellation occurred before the renewal deadline.

Confirm that cancellation actually took effect
After submitting a cancellation, verify the status instead of relying only on the disappearance of a channel or app.
- Return to the Roku account’s Subscriptions page and check that the service no longer shows an upcoming renewal or that auto-renew is disabled.
- Note the displayed end date. Continued access before that date is expected and does not mean the cancellation failed.
- Check the provider’s account when the service was not listed under Roku.
- Keep the confirmation email, screen capture or reference number with the date and account used.
- Review the next card, bank or wallet statement for a renewal that was scheduled after the cancellation date.
If a charge appears after a confirmed cancellation, compare the merchant name, amount and date with the account that was canceled. A second Roku account, a provider-managed plan or a different billing profile can explain why one subscription stopped while another continued.
Remove a saved payment method from Roku
Deleting a payment method is separate from canceling a subscription. Roku requires every active Roku-managed subscription to be canceled or have auto-renew turned off before the method can be removed.

- Cancel or turn off auto-renew for each active subscription shown in the Roku account.
- Sign in to my.roku.com using the same Roku account.
- Open Payment methods.
- Find the saved card or other method you want to delete.
- Open the three-dot menu beside that method.
- Select Remove and confirm the deletion.
Roku says payment-method deletion is performed on the website. If you are looking at the television interface and cannot find a remove command, switch to the browser account page. The payment method may remain visible until all Roku-managed subscriptions have no future renewal.
Why the Remove option is missing or disabled
An active Roku-managed subscription remains
This is the primary restriction. Recheck the complete subscription list, including services that are in a paid period after auto-renew was turned off. A subscription can remain active until its end date even though it will not renew. Roku’s requirement concerns active subscriptions billed through Roku, not merely the presence of an installed channel.
The charge is provider-managed
If the service that appears to be charging you is not listed under Roku subscriptions, cancel it with the provider. Provider-managed billing follows the provider’s process. Once no Roku-managed subscription is active, return to Payment methods and try again.
You are signed in to a different Roku account
Roku accounts are independent. A device in another room, an older email address or a family member’s login may hold the subscription and saved method. Sign out, identify the account shown on the device or receipt, and repeat the check with that account.

The browser session or account page is stale
Roku recommends using a current browser and checking the account’s payment details when managing payment methods. Sign out and back in, reload the page, and confirm that the browser is current before treating a missing menu as a billing error.

- Read the merchant descriptor and transaction date on the statement.
- Sign in to my.roku.com and compare the Subscriptions list with that descriptor.
- If the service appears there, turn off auto-renew and save the confirmation.
- If it does not appear, sign in to the named provider and inspect its billing page.
- Check other Roku accounts that may use the same payment method.
- After all Roku-managed renewals are stopped, remove the saved method from the website if you no longer want it stored.
Do not assume that deleting a channel, removing a device from the television or replacing a card automatically cancels a subscription. Those actions do not change the renewal instruction held by Roku or the provider.
Access, refunds and timing after cancellation
Access usually continues until the paid period ends
Turning off auto-renew generally leaves the service available through the end of the current billing cycle. That behavior explains why a canceled service can still stream for days or weeks. The end date shown in the account is the useful test of whether the next renewal has been stopped.
Partial-term refunds are not provided by Roku
Roku says it does not provide refunds for a partially used term. Canceling early therefore prevents the next renewal but does not create a prorated refund for unused time. A provider-managed subscription may have different rules, so direct those questions to the provider that billed it.
Protect the account from unwanted purchases
Roku recommends setting a purchase PIN. A PIN adds a confirmation step for purchases made through the Roku account, which is useful when several people use the same television. It does not replace cancellation: an existing subscription still requires auto-renew to be turned off.
For U.S. Roku accounts, Roku lists cards, Apple Pay, PayPal, Cash App Pay and qualifying prepaid gift cards among accepted payment methods. Availability can depend on the account and transaction, so use the payment-method page to see which options your account currently supports. Removing a stored method does not erase a provider’s separate payment record.
