To stop a directly billed Netflix membership, open Account, choose Manage your membership, select Cancel, and then select Finish Cancellation. Keep the confirmation email and check Payment History for the next billing date and account-closure date. Deleting the app, signing out, or simply stopping payment does not complete cancellation.
Cancel a Netflix account billed directly by Netflix
Netflix’s required cancellation flow is in your account settings. Netflix states that this is the only way to cancel the account and end the membership.
- Sign in to Netflix using a browser or the Netflix account interface.
- Open Account, then find the Membership area and select Manage your membership.
- Select Cancel.
- Select Finish Cancellation to confirm. Stopping at the first prompt does not complete the process.
- Save the cancellation confirmation email. It is your clearest record that the membership was ended.
Signing out of Netflix or deleting the Netflix app only removes access from a device. Neither action cancels the membership or stops a scheduled renewal.

A normal cancellation prevents the next renewal, but it does not usually end access immediately. Netflix says you can continue watching through the end of the current paid billing period. The account then closes when that period ends, unless someone restarts it.

Netflix also says you will not be charged again unless the account is restarted. That makes the confirmation email and the account’s displayed end date important: they show whether the cancellation was completed and when access should stop.
Verify the billing date and closure date
Use Netflix’s Payment History section after completing the cancellation.
- The billing date appears at the top of Payment History.
- Past charges provide a record of which account and payment activity you are checking.
- The account page shows the date on which the account will close after cancellation.
Compare the displayed billing date with the date on your cancellation confirmation. If a renewal date is approaching and there is no confirmation or closure date, return to the membership section and complete Finish Cancellation.
If the Netflix account has no Cancel button
A missing cancellation option is normally a billing-partner issue, not a hidden Netflix setting. Netflix says that when the cancellation option is absent, the account must be canceled through the company that bills you.

Do not keep retrying Netflix’s cancellation page when a partner controls billing. Use the partner’s process, then retain its cancellation confirmation.
Apple-billed Netflix subscriptions
Apple subscriptions renew automatically until they are canceled in Apple’s Manage Subscriptions section. Netflix warns that an Apple-billed subscription may renew if cancellation is not completed more than 24 hours before the renewal date. Apple’s Media Services Terms state that a renewal charge can occur up to 24 hours before the next subscription period begins.
This creates a practical deadline: do not wait until the renewal day. Cancel through Apple while more than 24 hours remain, and confirm that Netflix no longer appears as an active renewing subscription in Apple’s subscription settings. Netflix’s own billing page will not replace Apple’s cancellation control.
Netflix included with a phone or internet package
Some memberships are part of a phone, internet, or other bundle. In that arrangement, the provider—not Netflix—controls the recurring charge. Follow the provider’s cancellation procedure and ask for written confirmation if the provider’s account page does not supply one.

Expect the provider’s billing date to differ from Netflix’s date. The date displayed in Netflix Payment History may describe Netflix activity, while the package provider can set the date on which the bundled service appears on its own bill. Check both records before assuming that a charge is a Netflix renewal.
If you were charged after canceling
A post-cancellation charge has several possible explanations. Work through them in order rather than deleting the account or removing a card immediately.
Check whether the account was restarted
Netflix says that an account can be accidentally restarted by you or by someone who had access to it. Reopen Netflix’s cancellation page and look for the membership controls. If the account is active again, select Cancel and then Finish Cancellation once more.

After completing that second cancellation, change the Netflix password and choose the option to sign out all devices. This removes existing sessions and helps prevent another household member from restarting the account.

Check who processed the charge
Look at the transaction description on your bank or card statement. An Apple charge should be investigated through Apple; a charge included in a phone or internet package should be checked with that provider. The billing owner determines which cancellation record is valid.
Contact Netflix about an unrecognized charge
If the charge is not yours or cannot be matched to an account you control, contact Netflix immediately. Netflix specifically advises prompt contact for an unrecognized charge so it can investigate the account and payment activity.
Remember that an expired card can still be charged
An expired physical card does not guarantee that recurring billing will stop. Netflix notes that banks can automatically update card details for merchants, allowing a recurring charge to continue even after the card’s printed expiration date. Investigate the membership and billing partner instead of relying on card expiration.
Removing a payment method: useful, but not a cancellation substitute
Removing a payment method can prevent Netflix from charging that particular method unless it is added again. However, Netflix says you cannot remove the only payment method without adding another first. Some payment methods supplied by partners also cannot be removed from Netflix’s account controls.

- If Netflix bills you directly and you still have only one payment method, the account may require a replacement before removal.
- If a partner supplies the payment method, Netflix may not provide a removal control at all.
- Removing a card does not create the cancellation confirmation that ends a membership. Complete the correct cancellation flow for the billing owner.
Secure the account so nobody restarts it
Cancellation stops the scheduled renewal; it does not stop a person who can still sign in from restarting the account. Once cancellation is confirmed:
- Change the Netflix password to one that is not reused on another service.
- Select Netflix’s option to sign out all devices.
- Keep the confirmation email and note the closure date shown in the account.
- Do not share the new password with anyone who should not be able to reactivate the membership.
If the account restarts later, these steps make an unwanted restart less likely and provide a clear point from which to investigate a new charge.

Before the next billing date: a final checklist
- Identify the billing owner: Netflix, Apple, or another provider.
- Complete the owner’s cancellation flow all the way through its final confirmation.
- Save the confirmation email or partner confirmation.
- Check Payment History and record the billing date and account-closure date.
- If Apple bills you, finish cancellation more than 24 hours before renewal.
- Change the Netflix password and sign out all devices after cancellation.
- If a charge still appears, check for an accidental restart and contact the billing owner promptly.
