To cancel a Netflix membership billed directly by Netflix, sign in from a browser, open Manage your membership, choose Cancel, and then select Finish Cancellation. Keep the confirmation email. Signing out or deleting the app does not cancel the membership. Your access normally continues until the end of the current paid billing period, and Netflix says it will not charge you again unless the account is restarted.
If Netflix does not show a cancellation option, Netflix is probably not the company collecting the payment. Apple, Google Play, a phone company, an internet provider, or another package provider may control the subscription instead. Cancel with the company named in your Membership and Billing details or on your payment statement.
First, identify who bills your Netflix account
The cancellation path depends on the company that owns the recurring payment. Starting in the wrong place can leave the membership active even though you signed out of Netflix or removed the app.
Check Netflix for a direct-billing cancellation
Sign in to Netflix in a web browser and open the account page. Look in the Membership and Billing area for Manage your membership and a Cancel option. If those controls are present, Netflix is providing the cancellation flow for that account.

If there is no cancellation option, do not assume the account is already cancelled. Use the Membership and Billing information to identify the payment partner, then compare it with the merchant name shown on your bank or card statement. The merchant that collects the recurring payment is the party that must process the cancellation.

The access and timing details in the last three rows are controlled by the billing partner, not by a cancellation button inside Netflix. Ask that partner for the effective cancellation date if its account page does not state one.
Cancel a Netflix account billed directly by Netflix
Use a browser rather than relying on the mobile app. The app is useful for watching, but deleting it or signing out does not terminate the recurring membership.

- Open Manage your membership. This is the account area where Netflix places the direct-billing cancellation control.
- Select Cancel. Review the cancellation information Netflix displays before continuing.
- Select Finish Cancellation. This final control completes the direct Netflix cancellation. Stopping after the first screen does not provide the same evidence that the process is complete.
- Save the confirmation email. Netflix says a confirmation email is sent to the email address on the account. Keep it until the next expected billing date has passed and the account is no longer renewing.
Why the final button matters
A cancellation screen that has not been completed is not the same as a finished cancellation. The combination of the Finish Cancellation step and the confirmation email is your practical record that direct cancellation was submitted. If you do not receive the email, check that you used the correct account and review the Membership and Billing page again rather than assuming the renewal has stopped.
What happens after a successful cancellation
Access usually remains until the paid period ends
Direct Netflix cancellation normally stops the next renewal instead of ending viewing immediately. Netflix says access continues through the end of the current billing period. The account can therefore remain usable for a while after you cancel; continued access by itself is not proof that cancellation failed.

Netflix should not bill you again unless the account is restarted
Netflix states: “You won’t be charged again unless you restart your account.” A later charge therefore requires investigation rather than an assumption that the cancellation merely needs more time. Check whether the account was restarted and whether the payment was actually collected by Netflix or by another billing partner.
Actions that do not cancel a membership
- Signing out of the Netflix app or website.
- Deleting the Netflix app from a phone, tablet, television, or streaming device.
- Stopping use of the account without completing the cancellation controls.
These actions may remove access from a particular device, but they do not instruct the billing owner to stop renewal.
Cancel when Apple bills Netflix
When the Membership and Billing area or your statement identifies Apple as the billing partner, Netflix cannot complete the cancellation for you. Use the Apple account’s subscription-management controls and select the Netflix subscription there.
Use the Apple account that owns the subscription
People sometimes check the wrong Apple account, especially when several Apple IDs are used on family devices. Locate the Apple account associated with the recurring Netflix payment, open its subscriptions, and cancel Netflix from that account. If the subscription is not listed, verify the merchant and account again before concluding that it has ended.
Allow enough time before renewal
Netflix notes that Apple subscriptions may renew unless they are cancelled more than 24 hours before the renewal time. Do not wait until the renewal window is nearly closed. After cancelling, retain Apple’s confirmation or subscription status and compare the result with the next statement.

Because Apple controls the transaction, questions about Apple’s renewal timing, the cancellation record, or a charge that Apple collected should be directed to Apple. Netflix’s direct-billing cancellation page cannot replace Apple’s subscription cancellation.

If Google Play is the merchant, use the Google Account that owns the Netflix subscription. Open that account’s Google Play subscription controls and choose to unsubscribe from Netflix.
Confirm the correct Google Account
Google devices can have multiple accounts signed in at once. A Netflix subscription will appear only under the Google Account that created the Google Play billing relationship. If Netflix is missing from the subscriptions list, switch to the account associated with the charge rather than creating a new cancellation request in Netflix.
Cancel before the next cycle begins
Google Play subscriptions renew at the start of each billing cycle unless the subscriber unsubscribes. Complete the unsubscribe action before that cycle starts, and save the resulting subscription status or confirmation. The exact end of access follows the Google Play subscription’s current period, so continued viewing before that date does not mean the cancellation was unsuccessful.
Cancel a Netflix package billed by a phone, internet, or other provider
Some memberships are included in a package or collected on a provider’s bill. In that arrangement, the provider controls the billing date and cancellation mechanism. Contact the provider named in Netflix’s Membership and Billing information or on the payment statement.

Ask the provider for three specific confirmations
- That the Netflix component, not merely another part of the package, was cancelled.
- The date on which the recurring Netflix charge will stop.
- Whether access continues until the current provider billing period ends.
Keep the provider’s case number, email, or account status. Netflix may still show an active membership while the provider’s cancellation is being processed, because the provider—not Netflix—owns the recurring transaction.

A post-cancellation charge can mean that the account was restarted by the account holder or by another person with access to it. It can also mean that the cancellation was attempted with the wrong billing owner. Work through both possibilities in order.
1. Check the merchant on the charge
Compare the statement’s merchant name with the Membership and Billing details. If the charge came from Apple, Google Play, or a package provider, follow that company’s cancellation process. A completed Netflix cancellation does not cancel a subscription that another company still controls.
2. Reopen Netflix’s cancellation page
For a directly billed account, go to netflix.com/cancelplan, select Finish Cancellation, and complete the flow. This is the direct route Netflix specifies for stopping the plan again.

After completing the cancellation, change the Netflix password and use Sign out of all devices. These steps address the possibility that another person restarted the account using an existing session or credentials. Sign out on one television or phone alone is not equivalent to signing out everywhere.

4. Preserve evidence
Keep the cancellation confirmation, the date and amount of the charge, and the merchant name. If the account remains cancelled but a billing-partner charge appears, give those details to the company that collected the payment. The billing owner can match the charge to its subscription record.
How to stop someone from restarting the account
Cancellation prevents the next renewal only while the account remains cancelled. Anyone who can access the account may be able to restart it, which is why a later charge can appear even after an earlier cancellation.
- Complete the cancellation through the correct billing owner.
- For direct Netflix billing, confirm the Finish Cancellation step and retain the email.
- Change the Netflix password after a suspected restart or an unexpected charge.
- Choose Sign out of all devices so old sessions no longer remain active.
- Check the billing owner and account status again before the next expected renewal date.
The purpose of the password change and global sign-out is to remove the access that could be used to restart the account. They do not substitute for cancellation; both the billing cancellation and the security steps may be necessary.

A reliable cancellation record
For a direct Netflix membership, the strongest record is the account’s completed cancellation plus the confirmation email. For Apple, Google Play, or a package provider, keep that company’s cancellation status or confirmation instead. Record the billing owner, the date you cancelled, and the next expected billing date so you can recognize an unauthorized restart or a cancellation that was sent to the wrong company.
Do not treat the disappearance of the app, a successful sign-out, or the ability to continue watching as billing evidence. Those events describe device access or the remaining paid period, not whether recurring billing has been stopped.
