How do I cancel Amazon Prime?
Amazon’s published instructions describe these routes. Labels can vary by app version or locale, so if you do not see the exact wording, open Prime membership settings while signed in and follow the current on-screen process. Amazon’s cancellation instructions do not treat opening the page or beginning the flow as a completed cancellation.

On a computer
- On Amazon.com, open Accounts & Lists and select Prime Membership.
- Find Manage Membership and select End Membership.
- Complete the remaining on-screen instructions and confirm the cancellation.
In the Amazon Shopping app
- Tap Profile.
- Scroll to Manage Prime Membership and open the Manage Membership menu.
- Choose End Membership, then complete and confirm the on-screen steps.
Verify that the cancellation took effect
Return to the Prime membership details in your account. Check that the status or next renewal date reflects the change you made. Do not assume the membership ended just because you reached the cancellation page.
How do I stop Amazon Prime from renewing?
Finish the cancellation before the renewal date shown in your account, then verify that the membership record changed. Amazon’s U.S. cancellation guidance supports managing the membership in your account, but the renewal clause cited here is from Amazon’s EU terms, not a statement of the governing U.S. contract. Amazon’s EU Prime terms, dated January 8, 2024, say direct-billed memberships renew at the then-applicable periodic fee unless cancelled or Amazon is notified before the next due date. Check the terms for your marketplace and the date displayed in your account.

How do I cancel my Prime free trial?
Use the same Prime membership settings and cancellation flow: choose End Membership and complete every step. Confirm the resulting status or next renewal date in your account rather than relying on having started the process. If the trial or membership is billed through a third party, check the biller shown in your account or payment records and follow that provider’s cancellation process.
Why was I charged for Prime after I cancelled?
First, identify what the charge is for and which company processed it. Amazon says transaction history is available at Your Payments > Transactions. Its guidance lists several possible explanations, including a Prime renewal, a Prime Video subscription renewal, or a separate Prime Video add-on renewal. Amazon’s guide to unknown Prime Video charges also notes that when a Prime membership and add-on trial start together, their monthly charges can fall on different dates.

- Review the transaction details and identify the named membership or add-on.
- Check each Prime-related membership and subscription separately; cancelling Prime does not necessarily cancel a separately subscribed channel.
- If the charge appears after you completed cancellation, check your account’s membership status and renewal date, then contact Amazon support with the transaction details.
- If another company billed you, contact that provider about cancellation or a refund under its policies.
Can I get a refund after cancelling Prime?
Do not assume cancellation automatically produces a refund. Refund rules depend on the marketplace and billing arrangement. Amazon’s January 8, 2024 EU terms say a direct-billed customer who has not used Prime benefits in the current membership period receives a full refund; otherwise, a partial refund may be available based on benefits used. Those terms describe gift-code or promotional memberships as non-refundable. These are EU-specific terms and should not be treated as a promise of a U.S. refund. Review the cancellation screen and ask Amazon support about eligibility under the terms for your account and marketplace.

The Associated Press reported that an FTC settlement required Amazon to clearly mark automatic renewals and use a cancellation process that is not difficult, costly, confusing, or time consuming. AP also reported Amazon’s position that the settlement required no additional changes beyond maintaining its existing sign-up and cancellation process. The settlement is regulatory context, not confirmation that a particular account has been cancelled; verify the membership record in your own account. Associated Press report on the settlement.
