You can cancel a Nintendo eShop game pre-order from the Nintendo Account that placed it, but only before Nintendo processes payment and starts the non-playable pre-load. Nintendo’s current self-service cutoff is at least seven days before the game’s release date. On a console, open eShop > Account Information > Your Pre-Orders; on the web, sign in at accounts.nintendo.com, open Purchase History, choose View pre-orders, and select Cancel.
Canceling before that cutoff prevents the charge and means a bonus code has not yet been issued. However, Nintendo does not publish a universal promise that a canceled order preserves eligibility for a title-specific pre-order bonus. Check the exact promotion and selling channel before canceling, and contact Nintendo Support or the retailer first if the bonus matters more than the cancellation.
The cancellation rule in one minute
Nintendo says a pre-order payment is processed no sooner than seven days before release. Once payment succeeds, the game begins pre-loading and any bonus download code for an eligible promotion becomes available. Until that processing point, you can normally cancel through the Nintendo Account used for the purchase.
| Question | What Nintendo’s guidance establishes |
|---|---|
| Latest normal eShop cancellation time | Before payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded, described by Nintendo as up to seven days before release. |
| Where to cancel | Console: eShop > Account Information > Your Pre-Orders. Web: accounts.nintendo.com > Purchase History > View pre-orders. |
| Which account can cancel | The Nintendo Account that placed the pre-order. |
| When a bonus code appears | After payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded, in the emailed receipt and Nintendo Account purchase history. |
| Does cancellation always preserve a title bonus? | No universal Nintendo guarantee is published; the game’s promotion terms and seller rules control. |
Do not wait until the calendar date that is exactly seven days before launch. Nintendo’s wording is “up to 7 days before the game’s release date,” but the guidance does not establish a universal clock time or timezone for every release. Cancel earlier if you are certain you no longer want the order.

Cancel a Nintendo eShop pre-order on a Switch console
Use the console procedure when the pre-order was made digitally through Nintendo eShop.
- Open Nintendo eShop on the Switch console.
- Select the Nintendo Account profile that made the pre-order. A different profile will not show the order.
- Select your profile icon in the upper-right corner to open Account Information.
- Choose Your Pre-Orders. The page lists eligible upcoming digital purchases associated with that account.
- Select the game you want to cancel and choose Cancel.
- Read the confirmation details and confirm the cancellation.
A successful cancellation should remove the title from the account’s active pre-orders. Because payment has not yet been processed at this stage, there is normally no payment to refund. Keep the confirmation screen or email for your records, especially when a promotion is involved.
Cancel from the Nintendo Account website
The web route is useful when the console is unavailable or when you want to verify the order from a browser.
- Sign in at
accounts.nintendo.comwith the Nintendo Account that placed the order. - Open Purchase History.
- Select View pre-orders.
- Choose the relevant game.
- Select Cancel and confirm.
If the pre-order does not appear, check that you used the correct Nintendo Account and region. A purchase made on a child account, a family member’s account, or a separate regional account will not appear in another account’s history. A physical order placed through Nintendo Store or another retailer also will not be managed through the eShop pre-order screen.
How the seven-day payment and pre-load timeline works
Nintendo’s support guidance ties three events together: payment processing, pre-loading, and bonus-code availability. The sequence matters more than the original order date.

| Stage | What happens | Can you use eShop self-service cancellation? | Bonus-code status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before Nintendo’s processing window | The order remains a pre-order; Nintendo has not yet taken payment or started the game’s non-playable pre-load. | Yes, normally, through Your Pre-Orders or the website’s View pre-orders page. | No code has been issued. |
| Payment-processing point | Nintendo attempts to charge the selected payment method, no sooner than seven days before release. | Cancel before this point; once processing starts, the normal self-service window has passed. | The code is not available until payment succeeds and pre-loading occurs. |
| After successful payment | The game pre-loads on the console. | Nintendo’s cited cancellation guidance does not promise self-service cancellation after processing. | When the title offers a code, it appears on the emailed receipt and in Nintendo Account purchase history. |
| Payment failure | The pre-order is canceled automatically. | There is no active order to cancel. | No successful purchase means no issued code under the documented process. |
“Pre-load” means the game data is downloaded before release; it does not mean the game can be played before its release date. Nintendo’s quoted rule is that a pre-order can be canceled “any time before the payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded on your console (up to 7 days before the game’s release date).”
Will canceling make you lose the pre-order bonus?
The safest answer is: possibly, depending on the promotion, and Nintendo does not guarantee retention after cancellation.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor titles that offer bonus content, Nintendo says the bonus download code becomes available only after payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded. The code is then listed on the emailed receipt and in the purchase history on the Nintendo Account website. A cancellation before the seven-day processing point therefore occurs before the documented code-issuance event.
That timing does not, by itself, prove that every promotion permanently disqualifies a canceled customer. It does establish that you cannot expect to receive the code before payment and pre-loading. Nintendo’s cancellation pages do not promise that a canceled order keeps eligibility for a title-specific bonus, so do not treat cancellation as a way to reserve a bonus without completing the qualifying purchase.
Check the promotion’s qualifying language
Open the game’s product page, the promotion terms, or the seller’s offer details and look for wording such as “pre-order,” “purchase,” “qualifying purchase,” “while supplies last,” the required edition, and the eligible region. Some offers may require an order that remains valid through payment; others may deliver a code only after payment. The exact text and the selling channel matter.

Ask before canceling when the bonus is essential
If the bonus is more important than the refund or cancellation, contact Nintendo Support for an eShop order or the retailer for a physical or third-party order before selecting Cancel. Ask two specific questions: whether this promotion requires an uncanceled qualifying order, and whether re-ordering later will issue the same bonus. Request the answer in writing or keep the support case number.

Do not confuse a game bonus with Gold Points
A title-specific bonus download code is separate from My Nintendo Gold Points. My Nintendo reported that digital pre-orders made after 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025 no longer earn Gold Points. That program change does not determine whether a particular game’s cosmetic item, mission, soundtrack, or other pre-order bonus is delivered.
Digital, Nintendo Store physical, and third-party orders follow different rules
| Order type | Where to manage it | When payment is taken | Cancellation and bonus considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo eShop digital pre-order | Switch: eShop > Account Information > Your Pre-Orders. Web: Nintendo Account Purchase History > View pre-orders. | No sooner than seven days before release, when Nintendo processes the pre-order. | Self-service cancellation is available before payment and pre-load. Bonus codes, when offered, appear only after successful payment and pre-loading; retention after cancellation is not universally promised. |
| Nintendo Store physical pre-purchase | Nintendo Store order management or Nintendo Store support. | Nintendo says physical items are charged immediately. | It is not an eShop pre-order, so the seven-day digital cutoff does not control it. Follow the physical order’s cancellation terms and the promotion’s wording. |
| Third-party retailer order | The retailer’s order page or customer service. | Set by that retailer; Nintendo’s eShop rules do not control it. | Check the retailer’s refund deadline, stock status, edition, region, and bonus terms. Nintendo does not state a universal retailer policy. |
Canceling a physical Nintendo Store pre-purchase
Nintendo says physical items purchased through Nintendo Store are charged immediately. That makes the digital eShop procedure inapplicable: the order will not appear under Your Pre-Orders simply because the release date is still in the future.
- Open Nintendo Store’s order-management area or the order-confirmation message.
- Locate the physical game order and review its status.
- Use the available cancellation control if the order has not entered fulfillment.
- If no cancellation control is shown, contact Nintendo Store support with the order number and ask whether cancellation is still possible.
- Review the promotion terms separately. A physical bonus may be packed in the box, emailed, or handled under a different qualification rule.
Nintendo’s cited support material directs physical-order customers to Nintendo Store order management or support; it does not establish one universal physical cancellation deadline or a universal bonus-retention rule.
Canceling a pre-order from another retailer
When the order was placed with a retailer rather than Nintendo eShop, use that retailer’s account page or support channel. Nintendo’s eShop cutoff, payment timing, and account screens do not override the retailer’s contract.

- Confirm the exact retailer, country or region, game edition, and platform.
- Check whether the order is pending, allocated from stock, packed, or shipped.
- Read the retailer’s cancellation and refund deadline before submitting the request.
- Verify whether the bonus is guaranteed, limited by stock, tied to a specific edition, or available only while supplies last.
- Save the cancellation confirmation and any message about the bonus.
If the retailer has already charged the order, ask about its refund method and timing. Nintendo’s published eShop guidance cannot establish that retailer’s refund amount, processing time, or bonus policy.
Why Nintendo may cancel a pre-order automatically
An automatic cancellation is different from a customer-initiated cancellation. Nintendo lists several possible causes:
- Insufficient funds in the eShop balance.
- An expired, declined, or otherwise unusable credit card.
- An expired, restricted, or unusable PayPal account.
- A Game Voucher that is unavailable or no longer eligible for the purchase.
- Problems with account details or tax information.
- A change to the game’s age rating that makes the purchase ineligible for the account.
- A server error during processing.
Nintendo says that if the game has not been released, you can place a new pre-order. Before doing so, correct the underlying problem, verify the payment method, and re-check the promotion terms. A replacement order is not automatically guaranteed to receive the original bonus; confirm that point with Nintendo or the seller.

- Verify the account. Sign out and sign back in with the Nintendo Account that made the purchase.
- Check the order type. An eShop order is managed in eShop or Nintendo Account history; a physical Nintendo Store or retailer order is not.
- Check timing. If payment has been processed or pre-loading has begun, the normal self-service window may have closed.
- Check release status. A released game is no longer an upcoming pre-order.
- Check for a processing message. A pending charge, receipt, or pre-load notification indicates that Nintendo’s processing stage may have started.
- Contact the correct support channel. Use Nintendo Support for an eShop transaction, Nintendo Store support for a physical Nintendo Store order, or the retailer for a third-party purchase.
Do not remove the game from the console or delete payment information as a substitute for cancellation. Those actions do not necessarily cancel an account-level pre-order and can make troubleshooting harder.

Practical decision guide
You want a refund and do not care about the bonus
For an eShop order, cancel from Your Pre-Orders before Nintendo processes payment. Earlier is safer because the documented cutoff is tied to payment and pre-loading, not to the moment you open the cancellation page.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
You want the bonus but are unsure about the game
Do not assume that canceling preserves eligibility. Read the promotion terms and ask support whether the offer requires a completed, uncanceled purchase. If the answer is unclear, recognize that canceling before payment means no bonus code has yet been issued.
The eShop already charged you
The ordinary pre-order self-service window is designed to end before payment and pre-loading. Nintendo’s cited guidance does not promise a post-processing cancellation or refund through the same screen. Contact Nintendo Support promptly and provide the order details; do not rely on deleting the download or changing the payment method.
Your order was canceled automatically before release
Identify the cause, fix the payment or account issue, and place a new pre-order if the game is still unreleased. Then verify bonus eligibility again because the replacement order may be treated as a new transaction.

- Confirm that the order is digital eShop, Nintendo Store physical, or third-party retail.
- Use the same Nintendo Account or retailer account that placed the order.
- Note the game’s release date, edition, region, and promotion name.
- For eShop, cancel before the seven-day payment and pre-load window; earlier is preferable.
- Save the cancellation confirmation.
- Understand that a bonus code is issued only after successful payment and pre-loading when the title offers one.
- Check the promotion terms instead of assuming a canceled order keeps eligibility.
- Remember that Gold Points and a title-specific pre-order bonus are separate programs.
Bottom line for each order type
For a Nintendo eShop pre-order, cancel in the Nintendo Account that placed it before payment is processed and the game pre-loads—Nintendo describes this as up to seven days before release. A bonus code is delivered only after payment and pre-loading, and Nintendo does not publish a blanket rule saying cancellation preserves a title-specific bonus. Physical Nintendo Store purchases are charged immediately and use Nintendo Store order support; third-party purchases use the retailer’s own deadlines and promotion terms.
