To adjust how your iPhone interprets taps, swipes, and touch-and-hold gestures, use Recalibrate Touch Accommodations at Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Touch Accommodations. This accessibility feature changes touch recognition; it does not calibrate or repair the physical display. If your screen misses touches or responds intermittently, use Apple’s troubleshooting steps instead.
Recalibrate Touch Accommodations
Touch Accommodations is designed for people with hand tremors, dexterity difficulties, or fine motor control difficulties. Its options adjust how iPhone recognizes touch—for example, it can respond to a longer touch, ignore repeated touches, or recognize the first or last place touched. It also includes swipe gesture options. Haptic Touch duration is a separate control.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility, then Touch, then Touch Accommodations.
- Tap Recalibrate Touch Accommodations and follow the on-screen instructions. If you want to return the Touch Accommodations settings to their defaults, use Reset Touch Accommodations on the same screen.
Apple’s guide to adjusting how iPhone responds to touch explains the available controls. This recalibration changes accessibility touch interpretation; it is not a general hardware calibration or a fix for a faulty display.
Fix an iPhone screen that is inaccurate or intermittent
If the display is too sensitive, misses touches, or behaves inconsistently, Apple recommends checking common causes before seeking service. These are troubleshooting steps, not calibration.

- Restart your iPhone.
- Make sure the screen is clean and dry, with no debris or water on it.
- Disconnect Lightning or USB-C accessories. If touch behavior improves, try a different outlet, cable, or charger to help identify the cause.
- Remove the case and screen protector, then test the screen again.
- If the screen still does not work, contact Apple Support or arrange service. Apple notes, “You might need to set up service for your device.” See If the screen isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad for its troubleshooting guidance.
When a display repair may be needed
If touch problems persist after those checks, the display may need professional assessment. A replacement display can affect Multi-Touch: Apple warns that non-genuine displays may miss touches or register them in the wrong location. Apple recommends repair by a trained technician using genuine Apple display parts; its guidance on genuine iPhone displays also describes potential differences in performance.
On iPhone 11 models and later, excluding iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation), Parts and Service History may appear at Settings > General > About if the iPhone has been repaired. On supported models and software versions, display-related messages can include Genuine, Used, Finish Repair, or Unknown. Availability and labels depend on the model and software version.
