To estimate what a presale purchase will cost, add the token price for the quantity you want, any fee the sale explicitly charges, the network fee for the actual transaction, and any disclosed payment-route charges. Keep those amounts separate: the token price is not the gas fee, and no single platform’s fee applies to every presale.
How do I calculate the total cost of a presale token purchase?
Start with the sale’s official pricing terms and the number of tokens you intend to buy. If the sale lists a fixed per-token price, multiply that price by the quantity. Then add only charges that the sale terms or payment route disclose.
Estimated total = (token quantity × sale price) + disclosed sale fees + estimated network fee + other disclosed payment charges.
This is an estimate, not necessarily the amount that will be charged: the network fee can change before you submit, and the final transaction may use a different amount of gas than estimated. If you are budgeting in fiat, convert the token amount and network fee using an exchange rate observed when you make the estimate; no current conversion rate is stated here.

Use a worksheet for the specific sale
| Cost item | How to work it out |
|---|---|
| Token consideration | For a fixed price, tokens intended × sale price per token. If the sale instead sets a token allocation and a total cap, the implied price is cap ÷ allocation, if the sale’s terms define those figures that way. |
| Sale or platform fee | Apply only the fee in the sale’s terms. For a percentage fee, check what amount the percentage applies to; do not assume it is calculated on the token purchase amount. |
| Network transaction fee | Use the wallet’s estimate or a current estimate for the relevant blockchain and transaction. For Ethereum, the fee is calculated in ETH from gas used and the applicable fee per gas unit. |
| Payment-route charges | Add any other charge explicitly disclosed for the payment method you plan to use. |
| Estimated total outlay | Add the applicable items above. Label estimates separately from amounts the sale and wallet have confirmed. |
For example, if a sale gives a fixed price, enter the intended token quantity and multiply it by that price. Do not fill in an unspecified platform fee with a typical or assumed percentage: check the exact sale terms for whether a fee exists and how it is assessed.
How do I calculate crypto presale fees?
There is no universal presale fee schedule. A sale may specify its own charge, while the blockchain charges a separate transaction fee. A payment route may disclose additional charges. Compare these as separate line items and use the terms for the particular sale rather than assuming one project’s fee is standard.

For one specifically documented example, Metaplex Genesis describes its fixed-price sale configuration using a configured token allocation and SOL cap, and states that a 2% fee applies to deposits during its deposit window. That rate is specific to that documented configuration and window; it should not be treated as a general presale fee. See Metaplex Genesis: Fixed-Price Token Sale.
When a fee is expressed as a percentage, the sale’s terms need to identify its fee base. A percentage charged on a deposit, for example, is not necessarily the same calculation as a percentage of token consideration. If the terms do not make the base clear, do not infer it from the percentage alone.

How much gas do I need to buy presale tokens?
There is no single gas amount for a presale purchase. It depends on what the transaction does, including the computation required by the smart contract, and on the fee market when you submit it. A basic ETH transfer is not a reliable proxy for a contract interaction that buys tokens.
On Ethereum, the network fee is calculated as gas units used × (base fee + priority fee). The base fee is required by the protocol, while the priority fee is a tip. Ethereum.org explains that the fee rate changes with network demand and that the transaction type affects the gas used; check its Ethereum fees guide and technical overview of gas and fees.

Ethereum.org gives 21,000 gas for sending ETH, 65,000 for sending ERC-20 tokens, 84,904 for transferring an NFT, and 184,523 for a Uniswap swap as examples. These are examples for those transaction types, not guaranteed gas requirements for a presale contract purchase. Use the wallet’s quote for the actual transaction you are preparing.
- Confirm which blockchain the sale uses and which native currency is required to pay its transaction fees.
- Prepare the actual purchase transaction in the wallet you will use, following the sale’s official instructions.
- Review the wallet’s quoted transaction fee before signing. Treat it as a time-sensitive estimate, not a fixed presale charge.
- Make sure the wallet has enough of the chain’s native fee asset in addition to the amount needed for the purchase.
For Ethereum, gas is paid in ETH, and prices are commonly quoted in gwei. The Ethereum developer overview notes that a fee is due whether a transaction succeeds or fails, so an unsuccessful attempt can still cost network fees. See Ethereum.org’s developer gas documentation.

What should I check before comparing two presales?
Compare equivalent, sale-specific inputs rather than headline token prices alone. A lower stated price may not mean a lower total outlay if the fee terms, blockchain, or transaction requirements differ.
- Price basis: fixed token price, or the sale’s stated method for deriving price from an allocation and cap.
- Sale fee: stated rate or amount, and the exact base to which it applies.
- Blockchain and fee currency: which network processes the purchase and what native asset pays its gas.
- Actual transaction estimate: the wallet’s quoted fee for the purchase transaction, not the fee for a basic transfer.
- Payment-route charges: any additional amount disclosed for the route you choose.
- Failed-attempt cost: whether the network can still charge a fee when an attempted transaction fails.
The examples and fee formula above describe Ethereum, while the Metaplex fee example applies only to the specified Genesis configuration. For another chain, sale, or payment provider, use its official terms and the current wallet quote; those costs are not established by Ethereum’s fee documentation.
