To buy Tata Elxsi shares in India, open a demat and trading account with a SEBI-registered broker, complete KYC, add money through the broker’s banking channel, search for the correct security, and place an NSE or BSE order. Tata Elxsi trades under NSE symbol TATAELXSI; its BSE scrip code is 500408 and its ISIN is INE670A01012. After the exchange settles the trade, verify the quantity and average price in your demat statement.
What you need before buying
A purchase involves three linked accounts and services:
- Bank account: supplies funds for your purchase and receives withdrawals.
- Trading account: sends orders to the exchange through your broker and records executed trades.
- Demat account: holds the resulting shares electronically.
SEBI describes a depository as the institution that holds securities in electronic form. You open the demat account through a depository participant (DP), usually the same financial intermediary that provides your trading account. You cannot place an order directly on NSE or BSE as an individual investor. NSE states that investors must use a SEBI-registered broker. The broker provides the order screen, routes your instruction to the exchange, handles trade confirmations, and supplies account and tariff disclosures.

Documents and information for KYC
Have these items ready before starting an online application:
- PAN and the name as it appears on the PAN record.
- A recent photograph or live image, depending on the intermediary’s process.
- Identity and address proof accepted by the broker.
- Bank-account details for funding and withdrawals.
- Nominee information if you choose to add a nominee.
- Electronic acceptance of account-opening agreements, risk disclosures and the broker’s tariff schedule.
Exact screens, verification methods and document combinations vary by intermediary. Follow the current instructions shown by the broker rather than relying on an old screenshot or third-party checklist.
Choose a SEBI-registered broker and DP
Start by checking that the intermediary is currently registered with SEBI for the services you intend to use. A broker may offer equity trading while a related DP entity handles demat services, so read the legal name and registration details in the account-opening documents.

Do not choose a broker solely because of a headline fee or a promotional message. Read the live tariff sheet, account-opening agreement and risk disclosures before accepting them.
Open the demat and trading accounts
- Start at the broker’s official application page. Confirm the domain and the legal entity before entering PAN, bank or identity information.
- Enter PAN and personal details. The application normally asks for your name, date of birth, contact details and tax-residency information.
- Complete identity verification. Upload or present the requested identity and address documents, provide a photograph or live image, and complete any video or electronic verification step.
- Add bank details. Enter the account from which you will fund trades and to which withdrawals should be sent. The broker may request a cancelled cheque, bank statement or another proof.
- Review the agreements. Read the client agreement, risk disclosures, DP terms, privacy terms and tariff schedule. Check whether optional services are preselected.
- Set security credentials. Create the login, trading PIN and any two-factor authentication method. Use a unique password and do not share one-time passwords or PINs.
- Submit and wait for activation. The broker verifies the application and creates the trading account alongside the demat account in its account-opening flow. Use the confirmation message and account numbers supplied by the intermediary.
Account approval is not the same as having purchasing power. You still need to transfer funds and wait for the balance to appear as available for trading.
Fund the trading account safely
Use only a banking channel permitted by your registered intermediary, such as the bank-transfer method displayed inside the authenticated account area. SEBI advises investors to make payments to registered intermediaries through banking channels.
- Check the beneficiary name and bank details shown by the broker before approving a transfer.
- Do not send money to a personal bank account, a chat contact or an account supplied by an unsolicited caller.
- Keep the transfer confirmation and the broker’s ledger entry.
- Allow for any bank or broker processing time before placing an order.
- Transfer only the amount you are prepared to invest and any amount needed for disclosed charges.
If the credited balance is lower than expected, compare the bank confirmation with the broker ledger and contact official support. Do not make a second transfer until you know where the first one is.

Identify Tata Elxsi’s exact security
Tata Elxsi equity is listed and actively traded on both BSE and NSE. Use the identifier that matches the exchange selected in your order ticket, and confirm the ISIN before submitting.

Search for TATAELXSI in the broker’s equity search, then open the instrument details. If the result shows several products, select the regular equity share rather than a derivative, fund, bond or similarly named instrument. The instrument details or contract note should show the ISIN. Stop if the symbol, company name or ISIN does not match.
Place your first buy order
- Open the equity order ticket. Choose Buy, select Tata Elxsi, and select NSE or BSE as available in your account.
- Choose delivery or the broker’s equivalent holding product. This is the route used when you intend the shares to be credited to your demat account rather than opening a short-term leveraged position.
- Enter quantity. Type the number of shares you want. Check the displayed funds requirement, estimated charges and any margin warning.
- Select the order type. A market order seeks execution at the best available prices in the market. A limit order lets you specify the maximum price you will pay; it may remain pending or expire if that price is not available.
- Set validity and disclosed conditions. Review the broker’s current choices for day validity, price protection, margin and other controls. Labels and available options differ by broker.
- Review the preview. Confirm the company, exchange, symbol, quantity, price, order type, estimated total and available balance.
- Authenticate and submit. Enter the trading PIN or second factor requested by the broker. Save the order number and acknowledgement.
- Monitor the status. The order can be open, partially executed, completed, rejected or cancelled. An acknowledgement is not proof that a trade executed; open the trade book or order history.
Market versus limit orders

Use the broker’s live quote and order warnings when deciding. A displayed quote can change before an order reaches the exchange, and a large order may execute in parts.

- Brokerage or platform fee.
- Exchange transaction charges.
- Depository-participant or demat transaction charges where applicable.
- Statutory levies and applicable taxes.
- Other charges listed in the broker’s tariff schedule.
There is no single universal fee or tax figure for every investor and order. The total varies by broker, exchange, order value, service plan, investor status and the law in force when the transaction occurs. Read the broker’s current tariff sheet and applicable tax guidance, then check the contract note after execution for the actual debits.
Check execution, settlement and demat holdings
- Verify the trade in the trade book. Check the executed quantity, execution price, exchange and order number.
- Review the contract note. It should show the transaction details and itemised charges supplied by the broker.
- Wait for exchange settlement. The broker’s contract note and settlement information state when securities are expected to be credited. Do not assume that an executed order is immediately available for transfer or sale.
- Check the demat statement. After settlement, confirm that the Tata Elxsi quantity and average price appear in your holdings or statement.
- Reconcile regularly. SEBI recommends checking balances and statements. Compare the broker’s holdings view with the depository statement and report unexplained differences promptly.
Tata Elxsi’s 2026 annual report records 6,15,89,091 shares, or 98.82% of paid-up capital, held in dematerialised mode as of March 31, 2026. That figure describes the company’s reported shareholding position; it does not determine the quantity or price of your individual order.

The symbol or instrument looks wrong
Cancel before submitting if the result does not identify Tata Elxsi equity or the ISIN shown in the instrument details is not INE670A01012. Search again using the exchange-specific identifier and ask official broker support to confirm the instrument.

The order is rejected
Open the rejection reason in order history. Common account-side causes include insufficient available funds, an incomplete KYC or segment activation, an invalid price or quantity, a trading halt, or a broker risk control. Correct only the issue identified by the broker; do not repeatedly resubmit an order without understanding the message.

The order is open or only partly filled
An open order has not yet found matching sellers at the required conditions. A limit order can remain unexecuted when its limit is not reached. Review validity and the remaining quantity, and cancel or amend it only after checking the broker’s current rules and any charge.
Money was debited but shares are not visible
First check whether the trade is executed or merely pending, then check the settlement date shown by the broker. If the settlement window has passed and the demat statement still lacks the shares, raise a written ticket with the order number, contract note and DP details. Keep copies of every response for escalation.
The bank transfer is missing
Match the bank reference number, beneficiary and amount with the broker ledger. Contact the broker through an authenticated channel, and contact your bank if the transfer was sent to the wrong beneficiary. Never disclose your trading PIN or OTP while seeking help.

- Use a SEBI-registered broker and DP, and verify the legal entity in the documents.
- Read account-opening and tariff documents before accepting them.
- Keep passwords, trading PINs, OTPs and two-factor codes private, including from anyone claiming to be broker staff.
- Do not sign or hand over a blank delivery instruction slip (DIS).
- Enable transaction alerts and review demat and ledger statements.
- Ignore promises of guaranteed or unusually large profits. SEBI warns investors about fraudsters using such claims.
- Access the broker by typing the verified address or using its official application, not a link in an unexpected message.
If you suspect unauthorised activity, change credentials through the official channel, block or restrict the account as the broker permits, preserve evidence and use the broker’s documented grievance process.
Dividend, transmission and other shareholder-service questions
Trading support and shareholder-record support are different. For Tata Elxsi matters such as dividend or transmission queries, contact MUFG Intime India Private Limited, the registrar named on Tata Elxsi’s shareholder FAQ. Provide the relevant folio number for physical records or your DP-ID and Client-ID for dematerialised holdings. Keep your broker contract note and demat statement available so the registrar can identify the account.
A practical pre-order checklist
- Broker and DP registration checked.
- Demat and trading accounts active and KYC complete.
- Bank transfer credited as available trading balance.
- Instrument checked: NSE TATAELXSI, BSE 500408, ISIN INE670A01012.
- Exchange, quantity, order type and validity reviewed.
- Estimated fees and the broker’s tariff understood.
- Order number saved after submission.
- Trade book, contract note and demat statement checked after settlement.
Following those checks gives you a documented path from a verified bank transfer to an identifiable Tata Elxsi holding, while keeping execution choices and costs visible at each stage.
