You buy Salesforce stock through a regulated brokerage account, not from Salesforce itself. Open and fund a broker account available in your country, search for the Nasdaq ticker CRM, choose a market or limit order, check commissions, foreign-exchange and custody charges, and retain the confirmation and tax records. Whether CRM is a suitable long-term investment then depends on subscription growth, backlog, cash generation, dilution, AI adoption, valuation and the risks disclosed in Salesforce’s filings.
This guide explains the purchase process and gives you a repeatable framework for deciding whether the company’s growth and financial quality justify the price you would pay.
What Salesforce stock represents
Salesforce common stock represents an ownership interest in a software company whose products are sold primarily through recurring subscriptions and support contracts. Its customer-relationship-management platform is supplemented by analytics, data, integration, marketing, collaboration and artificial-intelligence products. Recurring contracts make revenue more visible than a one-time software license, but they do not eliminate competitive, economic or execution risk.

How to buy CRM shares step by step
- Choose a regulated broker. Select a broker authorized to serve residents of your country. Check its investor-protection regime, supported exchanges, order types, recurring-investment features, fractional-share policy and how it handles corporate actions.
- Open the account. Complete identity, tax-residency and suitability information. Your broker may ask about investment experience, income, risk tolerance and whether you want a taxable account or a local tax-advantaged wrapper.
- Fund the account. Transfer cash by the methods the broker supports. Allow for settlement times and keep enough uninvested cash to cover commissions, currency conversion and any account fee. Do not treat a pending bank transfer as immediately available buying power.
- Find the security. Search the broker for
CRMand verify that the description is Salesforce common stock, the intended exchange is shown, and the quoted currency matches your plan. Similar ticker symbols or derivative products can appear in search results. - Choose an order type. A market order seeks execution at the best available price but does not guarantee the price. A limit order sets the highest price you will pay; it may remain unfilled if the market does not reach your limit. During volatile or thinly traded periods, a limit order can provide more price control.
- Enter position size. Decide the number of whole shares or, where supported, a fractional amount. Base the size on the portfolio allocation you can tolerate if the stock falls, not on a prediction that the price will rise.
- Review the order ticket. Confirm buy versus sell, quantity, order type, limit price if applicable, duration, estimated total, commission, foreign-exchange rate and any regulatory charges. Check whether the broker is routing a real share purchase rather than a contract for difference or another derivative.
- Submit and verify execution. After sending the order, check whether it is filled, partially filled, rejected or still open. A market order can execute in multiple lots at different prices; a limit order can remain open until its time-in-force expires.
- Save records. Keep the trade confirmation, execution prices, fees, exchange-rate information, dividend statements and year-end tax documents. These records are needed to calculate cost basis and gains in many tax systems.
Salesforce states in its investor FAQ that shares can be purchased on the open market through a registered broker and that the company does not offer a direct share-purchase program. Brokerage rules, fees and tax treatment vary by country and can change, so read the current terms for your account.
Costs and practical details to check before submitting an order
Trading and account charges
- Commission: Some brokers advertise zero commission for selected U.S. shares, while others charge a fixed or percentage fee. “Commission-free” does not necessarily mean cost-free.
- Bid–ask spread: The difference between the best buy and sell quotes is an implicit trading cost. It can widen around earnings releases, market openings and other volatile periods.
- Foreign exchange: If your account is funded in a currency other than the one in which CRM trades, the broker may apply a conversion spread or fee when you buy, receive dividends or sell.
- Custody and platform fees: Account, market-data, transfer and inactivity charges may apply even when the trade commission is zero.
- Taxes and levies: Capital-gains tax, dividend withholding and transaction taxes depend on your residence, account type and treaty status. A broker’s tax form is useful but may not replace local filing advice.
Market, limit and recurring orders
A market order is appropriate only when immediate execution matters more than an exact price. A limit order is useful when you have a defined maximum entry price, but an unfilled order can leave you with no position. If you invest periodically, a recurring purchase can reduce the temptation to time the market; it does not protect you from losses and may incur a fee on every installment.
Salesforce’s recent financial base
Use reported figures and their definitions consistently. The following numbers come from Salesforce releases for the periods identified, not from a live quote or an independent forecast.
| Measure | Reported figure | Period and context |
|---|---|---|
| Total revenue | $41.5 billion | FY2026, Salesforce report issued in 2026 |
| Subscription and support revenue | $39.4 billion | FY2026, Salesforce report issued in 2026 |
| cRPO | $29.4 billion, up 11% year over year | Q3 FY2026 update, Salesforce 2025 release |
| Agentforce and Data 360 annual recurring revenue | Nearly $1.4 billion, up 114% year over year | Q3 FY2026 update, Salesforce 2025 release |
| Total revenue | $37.9 billion | FY2025 results |
| GAAP operating margin | 19.0% | FY2025 results |
| Operating cash flow | $13.1 billion | FY2025 results |
| Free cash flow | $12.4 billion | FY2025 results |
| Capital returned | $9.3 billion through repurchases and dividends | FY2025 results |
Subscription and support revenue of $39.4 billion out of $41.5 billion total revenue shows how central recurring contracts are to the business, but the two figures are from FY2026 and should not be mixed with FY2025 margins or cash-flow figures when calculating a single-period ratio.
What cRPO tells you about near-term demand
Current remaining performance obligation (cRPO) is the portion of contracted revenue Salesforce expects to recognize over the next 12 months. It is a forward-looking contracted-revenue measure, not the same as total bookings, annual recurring revenue or cash collected. Q3 FY2026 cRPO was $29.4 billion, 11% higher than a year earlier. Sustained cRPO growth can support revenue visibility; a slowdown can signal longer sales cycles, smaller deal sizes, higher churn or customer budget pressure.

When reading future releases, compare cRPO growth with reported subscription growth and management’s commentary on renewal rates, large deals and implementation timing. A single quarter can be affected by contract timing, so look for a multi-quarter trend.
AI and data products: opportunity and proof points
Salesforce reported nearly $1.4 billion of annual recurring revenue from Agentforce and Data 360 in Q3 FY2026, up 114% year over year. That is evidence of rapid early adoption, not proof that the products will become a durable, high-margin growth engine. Evaluate whether new AI and data contracts are incremental, expand existing accounts, renew at profitable prices and generate cash after compute, infrastructure, support and implementation costs.

Management’s stated FY2027 and FY2030 outlook
| Outlook item | Management statement | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| FY2027 revenue | $45.9–$46.2 billion, approximately 11% growth | Compare later reported revenue and quarterly guidance with this range. |
| FY2027 GAAP operating margin | 20.6% | Test whether growth is being accompanied by durable GAAP profitability. |
| FY2027 GAAP diluted EPS | $7.93–$7.99 | Check actual EPS, share count and any effects from buybacks. |
| FY2030 revenue objective | More than $60 billion, excluding Informatica | Management objective announced in October 2025, not a guaranteed forecast. |
| Organic growth implication | More than 10% FY2026–FY2030 CAGR, according to management | Recalculate from later filings and separate organic growth from acquisitions. |
| “50 by FY30” framework | Management’s long-term framework | Read the company’s definition and track each component; do not treat the slogan as a valuation. |
Management also raised FY2026 revenue guidance to $41.45–$41.55 billion in the Q3 FY2026 release and described Q3 cRPO as $29.4 billion, up 11% year over year. Guidance is a company objective based on assumptions that can change with demand, currency, acquisitions and execution. Revisit it after every earnings release rather than extrapolating it indefinitely.
How to build a long-term CRM investment thesis
1. Start with recurring-revenue durability
Assess subscription and support growth, renewal behavior, average contract expansion and the proportion of revenue tied to multi-year commitments. A recurring model is valuable only when customers renew and pricing covers the cost of serving them.
2. Check growth quality, not just the headline rate
Separate organic growth from acquisitions, currency effects and changes in contract timing. Compare cRPO momentum with recognized revenue. If backlog grows faster than revenue, it may support future periods; if it decelerates while management maintains an aggressive forecast, investigate the assumptions.
3. Examine GAAP profitability and cash conversion
Track GAAP operating margin, operating cash flow and free cash flow together. Free cash flow can be affected by working-capital timing, taxes, capitalized software and other adjustments, so inspect the cash-flow statement and reconciliation rather than relying on a single ratio. Compare cash generation with the level of stock-based compensation.

4. Account for dilution and capital allocation
Stock-based compensation is a real economic cost because it can increase the share count or require repurchases to offset dilution. Track diluted weighted-average shares, stock-based compensation expense, repurchase dollars, average repurchase prices and dividends. A large buyback can raise per-share metrics while total business growth is slower; judge both total and per-share results.
5. Test AI economics
Follow Agentforce and Data 360 annual recurring revenue, customer adoption, gross-margin commentary and retention. Rapid ARR growth deserves a higher level of scrutiny when the base is still relatively small or when usage costs are uncertain. Look for evidence that AI products increase total account value rather than merely reclassify existing spending.
Comparing CRM with other large software companies
Use a consistent peer set of companies with similar subscription exposure and enterprise customers. Do not rank a stock solely by the fastest revenue line; compare the combination of growth, profitability, cash generation and price.
| Comparison area | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Subscription growth | Is growth accelerating, stable or declining, and how much comes from acquisitions or currency? |
| cRPO or RPO momentum | Does contracted future revenue support the reported growth rate? |
| GAAP margin | Are operating improvements visible after stock-based compensation and other costs? |
| Non-GAAP margin | Which expenses are excluded, and are exclusions recurring? |
| Operating and free cash flow | How much cash is generated per dollar of revenue, and how volatile is conversion? |
| Stock-based compensation and dilution | Are repurchases genuinely reducing diluted shares or mainly offsetting issuance? |
| AI-product adoption | Are new products producing measurable ARR, retention and margin benefits? |
| Customer and macro exposure | How concentrated are customers, industries and geographies, and how sensitive are budgets to an economic slowdown? |
| Valuation versus growth | What growth and margin assumptions are already embedded in the current price? |
How to value Salesforce without pretending to know a fair price
No figure in the available company releases establishes a guaranteed fair value or future return. Start with the live market price and diluted share count from a current filing or market-data source, then make your assumptions explicit.

- Define the forecast period. Use a period long enough to capture contract renewal and margin changes, such as five years, and state the endpoint.
- Set revenue scenarios. Anchor the base case to observed subscription growth, cRPO trends and management guidance. Create lower and higher cases rather than treating the guidance midpoint as certainty.
- Model margins. Forecast GAAP operating margin separately from any non-GAAP measure. Explain how sales efficiency, infrastructure costs, acquisitions and AI usage affect the path.
- Estimate cash conversion. Reconcile operating cash flow and free cash flow to earnings, and make assumptions about capital expenditure, working capital and stock-based compensation.
- Handle buybacks carefully. Model both total company value and per-share outcomes using a realistic diluted share count. Do not assume every repurchase creates value; the purchase price matters.
- Choose a valuation method. A discounted-cash-flow model requires cash-flow forecasts, a discount rate and a terminal-growth assumption. A price-to-earnings or enterprise-value-to-free-cash-flow comparison requires a peer set and an explanation of why growth and risk justify the multiple.
- Run sensitivity tests. Vary growth, margin, cash conversion, discount rate and terminal assumptions. If a small change turns an attractive value into an unattractive one, treat the thesis as valuation-sensitive.
Record the date and market price used. A valuation can become stale quickly when the share price, interest rates, exchange rates or company guidance changes.

Security, privacy and service disruption
Salesforce’s Form 10-K warns that security breaches, unauthorized access, data loss, service defects or outages, cloud failures, third-party failures and other unforeseen events could materially harm operations, financial condition, liquidity and the stock price. For a cloud software company, an incident can affect customer trust, renewals, remediation costs and regulatory exposure at the same time.
Competition and displacement
Customers can consolidate vendors, switch platforms, build internal tools or adopt competing AI and data products. A strong installed base does not guarantee renewal if implementation is difficult or a rival offers better functionality, price or integration.
Enterprise-budget and macroeconomic pressure
Sales cycles can lengthen, projects can be delayed and contract sizes can shrink when customers reduce information-technology spending. Monitor cRPO, new-business commentary, renewal trends and sector exposure rather than relying only on annual guidance.

AI demand may fail to scale economically if customers do not move beyond pilots, usage costs rise faster than pricing, or capabilities become commoditized. High ARR growth is not enough; verify retention, gross margin and cash contribution.

Integration and execution
Acquisitions and product integration can distract sales teams, create overlapping platforms or increase technical debt. Compare promised synergies with later expense, margin and product disclosures.
Foreign exchange and regulation
Salesforce reports in U.S. dollars but serves customers globally. Currency movements can change reported growth and guidance. Privacy, data-residency, AI, competition and sector-specific regulations can increase compliance costs or limit product use.
Valuation compression
Even if revenue and cash flow grow, the share price can fall when interest rates rise or investors assign a lower multiple to slower growth, higher risk or weaker cash conversion. This is why purchase price and balance-sheet assumptions belong in the thesis.

A practical CRM due-diligence checklist
- Confirm the live ticker, exchange, currency and security type in your broker.
- Read the latest annual report, the most recent quarterly release and the risk-factor section.
- Compare subscription revenue, cRPO, total revenue and guidance on a consistent fiscal-year basis.
- Track GAAP operating margin, operating cash flow and free cash flow after stock-based compensation.
- Review diluted shares, repurchases, dividends and the price paid for buybacks.
- Follow Agentforce and Data 360 ARR, customer adoption and incremental cost disclosures.
- Test a valuation with explicit growth, margin, cash-conversion and discount-rate assumptions.
- Decide the maximum portfolio weight and the conditions that would invalidate your thesis.
- Check tax, foreign-exchange and custody costs for your jurisdiction before placing the order.
When to review or reduce the position
Set a review schedule—at least after each quarterly report and when your personal allocation changes. Reassess if cRPO growth persistently trails expectations, subscription growth decelerates without a credible explanation, GAAP margins deteriorate, free-cash-flow conversion weakens, dilution accelerates, AI products fail to retain customers, or the valuation requires assumptions you no longer consider realistic.
A falling share price alone is not a complete sell signal, and a rising price is not proof that the thesis improved. Compare new evidence with the assumptions recorded when you bought. Rebalancing can be appropriate when CRM becomes too large a share of your portfolio, even if the business outlook remains positive.
Bottom line
Buying Salesforce stock is operationally straightforward: use a regulated broker, search for CRM, choose the order type and verify all costs. The investment decision is harder. Salesforce combines a large recurring-revenue base, strong FY2025 cash generation, 11% Q3 FY2026 cRPO growth and rapidly growing Agentforce and Data 360 ARR with meaningful exposure to competition, security incidents, enterprise budgets, execution, regulation and valuation changes. Treat the FY2027 guidance and FY2030 revenue objective as testable management plans, build your own valuation from current data, and size the position so an unfavorable outcome does not damage your broader financial plan.
