Buy 1999TOKOYO Building through its official Steam store page, then install it from your Steam Library. Before purchasing, check the live page for the current regional release time, price, demo availability, and language table. At the time covered by this guide, the game was listed as prerelease, its full-game price was still to be announced, and a free demo was available.
The demo is the safest way to confirm that the neo-nostalgic horror adventure suits your PC and your tolerance for disturbing material. Kodansha says it contains the complete first chapter and takes approximately two hours.
What 1999TOKOYO Building is
1999TOKOYO Building is a single-player horror adventure and visual novel from developer 常夜不動産 and publisher KODANSHA. You play Akira, an amnesiac boy who reaches the Tokoyo Building, a nearly abandoned indoor amusement park surrounded by rumors that people disappear there.
The game combines choice-driven conversations with point-and-click exploration. You investigate the building, build relationships, and uncover secrets involving the people who work there. That combination matters when deciding whether to buy: this is a narrative investigation game rather than a conventional action-horror title built around combat.

Steam describes Akira as a boy who finds himself lost in the TOKOYO Building, an indoor amusement park filled with secrets and eerie rumors.
Release timing, demo status, and price
Release information was not identical across the official and secondary listings available for this guide:
- The Steam store page displayed a planned release of November 9, 2026.
- Kodansha’s announcement dated October 14, 2026, stated November 10, 2026, a Tuesday.
- SteamDB recorded a store timestamp of November 9, 2026, at 15:00 UTC and still identified the app as prerelease.
Because those dates differ by one day and a Steam timestamp can translate to different local calendar dates, treat the live Steam page as the final authority. The practical wording is “scheduled for November 2026.” Open the store page while signed in and check the exact unlock time shown for your region.

The official sources had not published a final purchase price at the time of the announcement; Kodansha had not yet announced the price. Do not rely on an old screenshot, search result, or third-party listing. Steam can display a different local-currency price and can update it before release.

The free demo
When the demo button is present on Steam, it is free to claim and install. Kodansha says the demo includes the entire first chapter and offers approximately two hours of play. It is available before the full release and lets you check the game’s presentation, language options, and performance on your PC without paying the unreleased full-game price.
A demo is a separate Steam product. Installing it does not automatically purchase the full game. If you enjoy the first chapter, add the full title to your wishlist so Steam can notify you when the release becomes available, then purchase the full game from the same store page.
Check your Windows PC before buying
The published requirements describe a 64-bit Windows installation. The sources do not establish a macOS or Linux version, so this is a Windows PC guide. Compare your computer with both rows before purchasing.

How to interpret the requirements
- Operating system: Your Windows installation must be 64-bit. A 32-bit edition does not meet the published minimum.
- Processor and memory: An Intel Core i3 with 4 GB RAM is the minimum listing; the Core i7 and 8 GB recommendation gives more headroom for Windows and background applications.
- Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 is the stated minimum, while the recommendation is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. These are requirement labels, not a promise of a particular frame rate.
- Storage: Reserve at least 2 GB for a minimum-spec installation and 4 GB if you want to meet the recommended figure. Keep additional free space for Steam’s download and update process rather than filling the drive to its limit.
To check your Windows edition, open Settings → System → About and look at System type. To check free space, open File Explorer → This PC and inspect the drive where you plan to install Steam games. If your computer is below a listed requirement, the demo is a useful low-risk compatibility check, but it cannot change the published minimums.

How to buy 1999TOKOYO Building on Steam
- Create or sign in to a Steam account. Use the account that you intend to keep as the owner of the game. Ownership is attached to that account, not to a particular Windows computer.
- Install the official Steam client. Download the client from Steam’s own website, run the installer, and sign in. Avoid unofficial installers or copies of the game; the confirmed legitimate distribution route is Steam.
- Open the store page. Search Steam for 1999TOKOYO Building, or open the listing identified by App ID 4099810. Confirm that the page shows the same title and publisher before proceeding.

If the demo button is missing
Steam can change the presentation of a prerelease page as the release approaches. Refresh the store page, confirm that you are signed in, and look for a separate demo section on the same listing. If no demo is offered in your region, wishlist the full game and wait for the release listing; do not download an alleged demo from an unverified file-sharing site.
How to install the demo or full game
Once the demo has been claimed or the full game has been purchased, installation uses Steam’s normal Library flow. There is no separate game-specific installer published in the available sources.
- Open the Steam client and select Library.
- Find 1999TOKOYO Building. A demo may appear as its own library entry or as a demo option associated with the store page.
- Select the game and click Install.
- Choose the drive and Steam Library folder with enough free space. Use the published 2 GB minimum or 4 GB recommended storage figures as a starting point, and leave room for temporary download files and future updates.

What to do if Steam shows the game as unavailable
A prerelease entry can be visible before it can be played. First compare the current Steam release countdown with your region’s time zone. If the full title has not unlocked, the Library may show a wishlist or pre-release state instead of a Play button. After the regional release time, restart Steam and check the store page and Library again. Make sure you are signed in to the account that purchased the game.

Use the demo to evaluate the opening chapter and your computer’s behavior, not as a guarantee that every later scene will have identical performance or content. The full game is the purchase required to continue beyond that chapter.
Language support and accessibility information
Steam lists English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese interface and subtitle support. Kodansha’s October 14 announcement repeats those three languages. A separate Kodansha product page still marked Japanese support as not yet confirmed, so check the live Steam language table immediately before installation and again after an update. The Steam table is the most current listing for the version you are downloading.
Language support here refers to the listed interface and subtitle options. The available sources do not establish voice-acting languages, text-size controls, color filters, remapping options, or other accessibility features. Do not assume those features exist unless the game’s current settings or store page explicitly identifies them.
Launching and checking the installation
- In Steam → Library, select 1999TOKOYO Building and click Play.

Troubleshooting common installation problems
There is no Install or Play button
- Confirm that you claimed the demo or completed purchase on the currently signed-in Steam account.
- If the game is still prerelease, wait for the regional unlock shown on the store page.
- Restart the Steam client after the listed release time and revisit Library.
- Check whether Steam created a separate demo entry rather than placing it under the full-game entry.
Steam reports insufficient disk space
Free additional space on the selected drive, then retry the installation. The published figures are 2 GB minimum and 4 GB recommended, but Steam may need temporary room while downloading or updating. Moving another game to a different Steam Library can be preferable to deleting personal files.
The download stops or repeatedly pauses
Confirm that the selected drive is connected and writable, then resume the download from the Steam Downloads view. If the drive has fallen below the required free space during the download, clear space before trying again. A restart of Steam can refresh a stalled prerelease entitlement after the release time.
The game will not launch
- Recheck that Windows is 64-bit and that the PC meets at least the listed Windows 10, Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000, and 2 GB storage minimums.
- Close other demanding programs and retry, particularly if the computer is near the minimum memory or graphics specification.
- Use Steam’s Library entry rather than launching an old desktop shortcut, which may point to a removed demo or an old installation folder.
- If the problem continues, compare the current Steam support information with the exact error message. The available game listing does not publish a separate launcher, command, or patch procedure.
The language you expect is not listed
Open the current Steam language table and the game’s in-game settings. English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese are the languages identified by the official Steam listing and Kodansha announcement. If a language is absent from the live table, do not assume that an older announcement guarantees it for your build.

Kodansha warns that the game contains violent or shocking material and depictions related to suicide. Those themes are part of the horror story’s subject matter, not merely a marketing label. Consider the warning before starting the demo, especially if you are sensitive to depictions of self-harm, death, or disturbing imagery. The demo’s approximately two-hour first chapter is the available way to sample the tone before buying the complete release.

Choose the demo first if
- You want to verify that your Windows PC can run the game before paying.
- You prefer narrative games with investigation, dialogue choices, and relationship building.
