The fastest way to build a Marvel-themed Commander deck is to start with one of Wizards of the Coast’s four ready-to-play Marvel Super Heroes decks, play it unchanged, then upgrade around the commander and characters you want to keep. Choose Avengers Assemble for Heroes and attack triggers, Wakanda Forever for equipment and creature growth, The Fantastic Four for four-color flexibility, or Doom Prevails for Villains, copying and control.
Choose the deck that matches your play style
Wizards offers four Marvel Super Heroes Commander products. Each is a ready-to-play 100-card Commander deck. Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever and Doom Prevails each have one face commander plus an alternate commander; The Fantastic Four presents four face commanders. The products released on June 26, 2026, and Wizards lists Amazon, TCGplayer and local game stores as purchase channels.
| Deck | Color identity | Commanders | Main plan | Best fit | Mana difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Avengers Assemble | Jeskai (red, white, blue) | Captain America, Team Leader; alternate: Director Nick Fury | Heroes/Avengers tribal, attacking and team-wide value | Players who want a broad hero roster and combat pressure | Moderate |
| Wakanda Forever | Green-white | T’Challa, the Black Panther; alternate: Shuri, the Black Panther | Equipment, artifacts, large creatures and combat growth | Players who prefer a focused Wakandan cast and straightforward combat | Lowest of the four |
| The Fantastic Four | Four-color (red, green, white, blue) | Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic, Human Torch and The Thing | Flexible value, copying, tokens and coordinated team play | Players who want the widest card access and commander choice | Highest |
| Doom Prevails | Blue-black-red | Doctor Doom, King of Latveria; alternate: Loki, the Deceiver | Villains, copying, disruption and attrition | Players who want an opposing roster and interactive control | Moderate to high |
There is no published independent win-rate or performance statistic for these lists. Treat the preconstructed decks as thematic starting points, not as proven tournament builds.

What is in the Marvel Commander release?
The four decks are designed to be played immediately in a multiplayer Commander game. Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever and Doom Prevails each contain 29 cards that are new to Magic; The Fantastic Four contains 26 new-to-Magic cards. Wizards describes the products as celebrations of different parts of the Marvel Universe, with Marvel character artwork throughout the decks.

Deck-by-deck guide
Avengers Assemble: the broad Heroes deck
Avengers Assemble uses red, white and blue (Jeskai) and is led by Captain America, Team Leader. Director Nick Fury is the alternate commander. Captain America is the clearest choice when you want the commander to represent the deck’s combat identity; Nick Fury is better suited to a hand-focused, team-value approach.
The list points toward a Heroes or Avengers tribal strategy. Attacking is not merely a way to deal damage: it is the way the deck turns a board of named characters into cards, counters or other advantages. Key engines include Kindred Discovery, Door of Destinies, Herald’s Horn and Relic of Legends. Keep these cards when upgrading unless your commander change makes their creature-type or legendary-permanent synergies irrelevant.
- Choose Captain America when you want the most direct attack-and-team identity.
- Choose Director Nick Fury when you value a hand and resource engine more than a single combat centerpiece.
- When cutting cards, remove generic spells before named Heroes, tribal payoffs or signature artifacts.
- Jeskai decks need dependable access to all three colors before adding expensive splash cards.
Wakanda Forever: the focused equipment and artifact deck
Wakanda Forever is green-white, led by T’Challa, the Black Panther, with Shuri, the Black Panther as an alternate commander. Its identity is narrower than the other decks, but that focus makes it the easiest list to keep consistent after upgrades.
The deck combines Wakandan characters with equipment, artifacts and large-creature pressure. Vibranium Mining Mech, Vibranium Strike Gauntlets, Hammer of Nazahn and Sword of the Animist reward you for investing in one or two attackers. Overwhelming Stampede gives a developed board a way to end a game rather than simply accumulate value.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Keep T’Challa if you want a central Black Panther combat plan.
- Use Shuri when your preferred build emphasizes a different leadership or support angle within the same Wakandan shell.
- Prioritize equipment tutors, artifact recursion, creature protection and reliable green-white mana when upgrading.
- Because the deck is two colors, you can devote more land slots to utility lands and basic lands than the four-color deck can.
The Fantastic Four: maximum flexibility, maximum mana pressure
The Fantastic Four has a red-green-white-blue color identity and four face commanders: Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic, Human Torch and The Thing. This is the best starting point if you want to change commanders without changing the entire card pool.
The list supports flexible value, copying, tokens and coordinated team interactions. Cards such as Council of Reeds, Path of Discovery, Genesis Ultimatum and Fantastic Elasticity reward you for developing a varied board and finding the right effect for the game state.
- Pick the commander whose ability matches the cards you draw most often; do not assume the most powerful-looking face commander is always correct.
- Keep a higher land count and more color fixing than you would in Wakanda Forever.
- Prioritize lands and ramp that produce multiple colors before adding narrow, high-cost Marvel cards.
- Four colors give you the broadest upgrade options, but every off-color card must still fit the commander’s color identity.
Doom Prevails: Villains, copying and control
Doom Prevails is blue-black-red and is led by Doctor Doom, King of Latveria. Loki, the Deceiver is the alternate commander. Doctor Doom is the direct flavor choice for a Latverian villain deck; Loki supports trickery, copying and deception.
The deck is built around Villains, disruption and attrition. Kang Dynasty, Endless Ranks of HYDRA, Black Market Connections, Kindred Dominance, Toxic Deluge and Villainous Hideout show the deck’s range: it can create a threatening board, exchange resources and reset opposing creatures.
- Keep Doctor Doom when you want the deck’s plan to be visible and proactive.
- Choose Loki when copying and unexpected exchanges are more important than a straightforward Villain attack.
- Do not cut all of the removal for additional flavor cards; this deck’s identity depends on being able to disrupt opposing engines.
- Fix black, blue and red early, because the deck’s interaction often requires specific colored mana.
How to upgrade a Marvel Commander deck
Upgrade in passes rather than replacing half the deck at once. This preserves the Marvel identity and lets you identify which cards actually underperform in your play group.

- Lock the commander and color identity. Decide which face or alternate commander will lead the deck. Commander color identity controls which cards may appear in the 99. A card with a mana symbol or color indicator outside that identity is illegal, even if its ability would otherwise be useful.
- Write the deck’s one-sentence plan. Examples are “attack with Avengers and turn tribal density into cards,” “equip Wakandan creatures and grow one decisive threat,” “use four-color team interactions to generate flexible value,” or “control the table while Villains and copy effects create inevitability.” Every proposed card should support that sentence.
- Protect the Marvel core. Retain named characters, signature artifacts and cards that make the deck recognizably Marvel. Cut generic cards that do not advance the selected commander’s plan before cutting a card that supplies the deck’s theme or engine.
- Repair the mana before chasing power. Two-color Wakanda Forever can support more basics and utility lands. Three-color Avengers Assemble and Doom Prevails need reliable fixing. Four-color The Fantastic Four needs the most demanding mana base and benefits most from lands and ramp that produce several colors.
- Balance the supporting categories. As a starting point, many Commander decks function well with roughly 36–38 lands, about 8–12 ramp cards, a comparable number of card-advantage effects, 8–10 pieces of interaction, several protection effects and two or three board resets. Adjust those numbers after games; an expensive, land-hungry list needs more mana than a low-curve build.
- Add interaction and protection. Preserve the removal and reset effects already working in the precon, then add protection for the commander or a key Marvel permanent. The official lists include examples such as Austere Command, Swords to Plowshares, Beast Within, Toxic Deluge, Blasphemous Act and Lightning Greaves. Use only the examples that fit the chosen color identity.
- Buy singles for targeted changes. TCGplayer is a practical route when you need one card to strengthen a theme rather than a second sealed deck. Make a short list of exact weaknesses—mana, protection, card draw or removal—before ordering.
- Test one package at a time. Replace five to ten cards, play several games and record which cards stayed stranded in hand, which effects were missing and whether the deck still feels like Marvel. Then make the next pass.
Mana and color-identity decisions
Mana problems are the most common reason an upgraded Commander deck feels weaker than the original list. Count colored requirements, not just the number of colors. A four-color deck with many double-colored spells can be more difficult to cast than a three-color deck with a similar land count.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTwo colors: Wakanda Forever
Green-white gives the deck a stable base and lets you play more basics. Keep enough lands to cast equipment, creatures and payoff spells on curve. Utility lands are attractive, but do not replace so many colored sources that early green or white spells become unreliable.
Three colors: Avengers Assemble and Doom Prevails
Both three-color decks should establish all colors early. Avengers Assemble needs red, white and blue for its attack and tribal engines; Doom Prevails needs blue, black and red to use both its control spells and Villain payoffs. Favor dual- and tri-color fixing, then add utility lands after testing opening hands.
Four colors: The Fantastic Four
The Fantastic Four has the largest card pool and the greatest risk of drawing lands that do not cast the spells in hand. Increase the proportion of multicolor lands and flexible ramp, and be cautious about colorless utility lands. A powerful card that cannot be cast on time is not an upgrade.
Interaction and protection by deck
Each deck should answer opposing threats without abandoning its theme.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Avengers Assemble: Keep efficient spot removal and at least a few ways to protect a team-wide attack. The deck loses momentum if a single blocker or board wipe repeatedly stops its combat plan.
- Wakanda Forever: Protect the creature carrying your best equipment and retain artifact or enchantment answers. Do not rely on one enormous attacker; a reset can otherwise erase the entire plan.
- The Fantastic Four: Because the deck can copy, create tokens and generate value in several ways, prioritize flexible answers that work in multiple board states. Protect the commander only when its ability is central to the hand you are holding.
- Doom Prevails: Maintain a dense interaction package. Removal, sweepers and disruption buy time for Villain engines and copying effects to take over, while protection prevents a key engine from being removed immediately.
Common upgrade mistakes and fixes
Adding cards outside the commander’s identity
Color identity includes colored mana symbols in a card’s rules text, not only the color shown in its casting cost. Check every proposed addition before sleeving it. If the card is outside the identity, replace it with a colorless option or an in-color effect.
Cutting too much flavor
A deck can become technically stronger while no longer feeling like an Avengers, Wakanda, Fantastic Four or Doctor Doom deck. Set a minimum Marvel core before making cuts—named characters, signature equipment and the tribal or faction payoffs that define the deck.
Overloading on expensive cards
Large legendary characters and spectacular finishers are tempting, but a hand full of seven- and eight-mana spells cannot affect an early Commander game. Keep enough cheap ramp, draw, interaction and creatures to function before the high-cost cards arrive.
Ignoring the table’s speed
A casual theme-focused group and a high-powered group expect different levels of acceleration and interaction. Ask what turn games usually end, whether mass land destruction or fast combos are acceptable, and how many cards you may proxy or substitute. Upgrade toward that environment instead of toward an abstract power level.

Changing commanders without rebuilding the shell
Captain America and Nick Fury, T’Challa and Shuri, or Doctor Doom and Loki may share a deck’s colors but reward different play patterns. After switching commanders, remove cards that no longer support the new engine and add draw, protection or payoff cards that do.

Is the Marvel Commander set legal?
Wizards’ format policy distinguishes between Universes Beyond booster-set cards and cards supplied in Commander decks. Starting in 2025, new Universes Beyond booster sets are legal in all major Constructed formats. New Commander-deck content is Eternal legal—Commander, Legacy and Vintage—unless a card is specifically excluded by format rules.
For a Commander game, the practical checks are color identity, the current Commander ban list and any rules set by the event organizer. Ban-list status can change, so verify it immediately before a sanctioned event rather than relying on an old decklist or an earlier product review.
Buying and playing your first list
- Choose the product whose roster and mechanics you actually want to play.
- Buy one sealed deck through a listed retailer, TCGplayer or a local game store.
- Play several games with the original list before changing cards.
- Record recurring problems: missed colors, no cards in hand, inability to answer a permanent, or a commander that dies before generating value.
- Purchase singles that solve those problems, keeping the Marvel cards that make the deck distinctive.
- Bring the deck to a local Commander night or launch event and confirm the group’s power-level expectations.
Which Marvel deck should you buy?
Buy Avengers Assemble if your favorite games involve a large Heroes roster and attacking together. Choose Wakanda Forever for the cleanest two-color mana and an equipment-centered Wakandan identity. Choose The Fantastic Four if switching among four commanders and accessing four colors matters more than simplicity. Choose Doom Prevails if you prefer Villains, copying, disruption and a control-oriented game.
After the first upgrade pass, the best deck is the one whose commander, characters and play pattern you still enjoy drawing. The preconstructed lists provide a legal, playable foundation; focused changes to mana, interaction and protection will improve consistency without erasing the Marvel theme.
