To build a continuous lofi radio playlist for YouTube, assemble music and visuals you have permission to livestream, play them through an encoder or hosted service, then connect that output to a YouTube Live broadcast. Test the playlist’s transitions and wraparound before going public. For long broadcasts, plan separately for rights checks, stream recovery and YouTube’s archive limits.
1. Check channel eligibility and clear the rights
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified, the streamer must be at least 16, and the channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance before setting up the broadcast.
Make a rights ledger for every track and visual. Record who owns it, what permission or license covers it, the territories covered, whether continuous live transmission and archived replays are permitted, whether monetization is allowed, and any attribution terms. These are questions to check against the specific license, not universal license terms. YouTube’s livestream terms make the streamer responsible for necessary rights in live content, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants.
A track described as “free” or “licensed” is not automatically safe for a YouTube livestream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may interrupt or terminate a broadcast. If you have a license, ask the rights holder whether they can allowlist your channel in Content ID before going live; keep the written permission and a contact route available. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

2. Assemble and test the playlist
Order tracks and check the loop point
Put the tracks in the intended order, then listen through the complete playlist, including the transition from the last track back to the first. Check for silence, abrupt cuts, sudden volume changes and a noticeable seam. Do not assume playback is gapless: test the actual playback method you plan to use.
Choose a visual that can run for the same duration
Pair the music with a still image or a short animation loop. Check that the visual repeats as intended and that you have permission to use it in the livestream and any replay. Keep the audio and visual rights records together so you can verify both quickly.

3. Choose how to send the playlist to YouTube
| Approach | What it means | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Run your own encoder | A computer or server plays the playlist and visual and sends the live signal to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports tools such as OBS. | The machine, playback process, network and power need to remain available for the planned run. Plan how to restart after a crash or disconnect. |
| Use a hosted continuous-stream service | A provider runs the playlist stream in the cloud rather than relying on your home computer to stay on. | Check the provider’s current restart behavior, playlist controls, credential handling, limits and costs. Hosting does not remove your responsibility for music and visual rights. |
For a DIY encoder, use YouTube’s official encoder setup guide and the encoder’s YouTube preset where possible. If you need a hosted option, StreamNeo is built to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube livestream from the cloud.
4. Connect the encoder and test before going public
- Create the broadcast: In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and get its stream URL and stream key.
- Configure the encoder: Paste the URL and key into the encoder’s YouTube or RTMP settings. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a signal to the broadcast.
- Start sending the signal: Start the encoder and wait for the incoming stream to appear in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check the preview: Inspect the video and listen for audio before making the broadcast public. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe this preview-and-go-live flow.
- Run an unlisted test: Let it play long enough to hear a full playlist wraparound. Check the loop seam, track transitions, levels and visual repeat. Then check the live dashboard and the channel’s watch page from another device after launch.
These checks can catch production problems, but they do not guarantee uninterrupted uptime or copyright clearance. YouTube also supports HLS ingestion for suitable encoders, but most creators should use their encoder’s supported YouTube preset unless they have a specific reason to configure HLS. If configuring it directly, YouTube’s HLS setup guidance specifies 1–4-second segments, TS format and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; HLS also has higher latency than RTMP.

5. Plan for interruptions, archives and maintenance
Decide how recovery will work
A computer, playback process, internet connection or power supply can fail. For a self-managed stream, plan how to restart the encoder and playlist, and arrange alerts or monitoring if the broadcast needs to run unattended. Keep credentials private. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends previewing the signal, checking local archive files and monitoring audio and video quality.
Keep a local recording if the replay matters
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep a local recording if a complete replay is important. See YouTube’s archive guidance. A separate drive can hold that optional backup; it is not required to broadcast.

Understand DVR limits
Rewind during a live broadcast is a separate feature from the saved archive. YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours; check its DVR guidance when planning a long-running schedule. Splitting a schedule into shorter broadcasts may help with archive planning, but creates separate live events and does not guarantee uninterrupted playback between them.
6. Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show an incoming signal | The encoder has not started sending, or the stream URL or key is wrong. | Confirm the broadcast is set up in YouTube Studio, recheck the URL and key, and restart the encoder. Keep the key private. |
| The music stops, skips or has a rough loop seam | The playlist playback or end-to-start transition was not tested in the actual streaming setup. | Test a complete cycle, inspect the playlist order and playback settings, and adjust or replace the transition. |
| Audio level changes sharply between tracks | The tracks have different perceived loudness or playback levels. | Listen through the playlist in sequence and adjust levels in the source workflow before the public broadcast. |
| The livestream is interrupted or terminated for a copyright match | A track or other content matched third-party material, or the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. | Review the match, confirm your license covers livestream use, and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. A license alone may not prevent an interruption. |
| The broadcast stops after a computer or network failure | The DIY playback process, power or connection went offline. | Restore the failed component, restart playback and encoder, and monitor the Live Control Room. If unattended continuity is essential, evaluate a hosted workflow and verify its recovery behavior. |
| No complete YouTube replay is available | The stream ran longer than 12 hours, or the archive was not preserved. | Keep a local recording when the replay matters; do not rely on YouTube to capture a stream longer than 12 hours. |
