You need two complete, non-overlapping squads for Ultimate Gauntlet 2. Every starter and substitute used in one round is locked and cannot be selected in a later round, so a second XI and a second bench are essential. The event lists ten objectives, but eight complete the group-reward track. For most budget players, build one stronger and one dependable secondary team, alternate them, and usually leave Score in 14 and Triple Perfect until last—or skip those two if you only need eight objectives.
What Ultimate Gauntlet 2 requires
Ultimate Gauntlet 2 is an online, solo Football Ultimate Team event built around squad depth rather than one overloaded lineup. The published event description specifies two rounds, five-minute halves and ten attempts. Each round contains two matches, and the squad used for a completed round is unavailable in later rounds. Because the event can receive live updates, confirm the current settings, countdown and attempt count in the in-game event panel before you commit players or coins.

The practical consequence is simple: a “main team plus a few spare players” is not enough. You must be able to field two complete matchday squads without repeating a single card between either starting XI or either bench. A substitute who never enters the pitch still counts as used because the bench is part of the locked squad.

Starting XI and bench are both locked
Before the first kickoff, divide your club into Squad A and Squad B. No item may appear in both pools. That includes your goalkeeper, reserve goalkeeper, emergency defenders and every attacking substitute. If a card sits on Squad A’s bench, remove it from Squad B even if you intend to leave it unused.

A loss does not end the event
A defeat does not terminate your entire Ultimate Gauntlet progress. Keep playing the available matches so you can add scoring and win counters, learn how the opposing matchmaking feels and preserve your remaining attempts for a better run. Treat a lost match as a setback to a particular objective plan, not as a reason to discard the event.
Perfect-round objectives span completed rounds
A perfect round means winning both matches in that round. The “Double Perfect” and “Triple Perfect” objectives count perfect rounds, so their wording should be read as a cumulative target across attempts rather than as extra matches inside the two-round event. Check the objective tracker in game to see exactly how your current attempt is credited.
Build two cheap squads without wasting coins
1. Make two player pools before changing formations
- Open your club list and create a simple spreadsheet, note or filter for Squad A and Squad B.
- Assign every likely starter first, then assign substitutes until both teams have full benches.
- Search for duplicate ownership, loan versions or alternate items that could be accidentally selected twice.
- Save both lineups and inspect the event preview before kickoff. The preview is your final chance to catch a repeated card.
Do not build Squad A completely and hope the leftovers can form Squad B. That approach usually leaves the second team without a goalkeeper, central defender or usable substitutes. Allocate both pools in parallel so every important position has a credible option.
2. Spend your limited coins where matches turn
No current average squad cost or transfer-market price is established for this event, so any fixed “buy this player for X coins” claim would be unreliable. Instead, spend selectively on the positions that decide matches for your own style. A dependable striker, goalkeeper and central defender are sensible priorities if those roles are weak in your club. Fill the remaining places with untradeables, objective cards and affordable links already available in your club.
This is not a requirement to buy three expensive superstars. One reliable finisher can convert the scoring objectives; one goalkeeper can prevent a narrow lead from becoming a loss; one central defender can make the second squad competitive enough to win. If a high-rated card is untradeable, assign it to one pool and build around it rather than buying a replacement simply to make both ratings look even.

3. Make Squad B competitive, not disposable
Perfect-round objectives and the ordinary win counters both require actual victories. A weak “throwaway” lineup can stop progress even when Squad A is excellent. Give Squad B at least one reliable attacking outlet, a goalkeeper you trust and defenders that can survive two matches. You can put your best overall XI in the squad you expect to use for a perfect round, but the other team still needs a realistic path to wins.
4. Keep separate substitutes
Reserve players should be selected with the same care as starters. A repeated super-sub is one of the easiest ways to invalidate a lineup because the card can appear identical in both saved squads. Build two complete benches before entering the event, and do not swap a player from one bench to the other between matches unless the game clearly shows that the item is eligible.

5. Choose a rotation order
Use Squad A for one round and Squad B for the other, then reverse the order on your next attempt if the first sequence gives you a difficult matchup. The important rule is separation, not which alphabetic squad goes first. Inspect the event panel after each round so you know which pool is locked and which remains available.
Practical squad templates for a budget club
The event does not require two identical ratings. It requires two legal, usable teams. These templates help you distribute resources without assuming a particular formation or league.

When your club has only one elite attacker
Place the elite attacker in the lineup you will use to chase a perfect round, then give Squad B a role-specific solution rather than an expensive imitation. For example, use a striker who is consistent in the box, a winger who can carry the ball into scoring positions or an attacking midfielder who creates chances. The objective system rewards scoring in separate matches, not a particular formation or player rating.

When you are short on goalkeepers
Do not place the same goalkeeper on both benches as an emergency option. Assign one goalkeeper to each pool before saving the squads. If the second option is weaker, compensate with a more conservative defensive setup or by moving one of your better defenders into that team. The lock rules make a legally separate goalkeeper more valuable than a slightly higher-rated repeated card.

When links or chemistry leave one team awkward
Use cards already in your club to preserve natural links, but do not sacrifice legality for a perfect chemistry screen. A legal team that can score and defend is more useful than a higher-rated lineup that cannot be entered because a bench item is locked. Recheck the full bench after every chemistry adjustment.
The ten objectives and the fastest way to choose eight
The published objective list contains ten tasks. Eight are needed for the group reward, so you can deliberately leave two unfinished. The counters are not all equally demanding, and your choice should reflect your win rate and available time.

Default plan for a lower-skill or time-limited player
Prioritize Score 1, Score in 4, Win 1, Win 3, Win 5, Perfect Round and Double Perfect. Leave Score in 14 and Triple Perfect as the two skips if the objective tracker allows you to claim the group reward after eight completions. This route combines natural scoring with ordinary wins and asks for only one perfect-round milestone plus its second-round counterpart.
Alternative plan for a player who regularly sweeps rounds
If you can consistently win both matches in a round, perfect-round objectives may be faster than playing fourteen separate scoring matches. In that case, consider completing Triple Perfect and leaving one or both scoring-chain objectives unfinished. Make the decision after checking your current counters, not from the objective names alone. A player who wins often but concedes or fails to score in a match may still find the scoring chain slower than expected.

Why goals do not equal scored matches
Score in 10 and Score in 14 count matches in which you scored, not the number of goals. Scoring four goals in one game moves the counter forward by one. If you are pursuing those tasks, focus on reaching the next separate match rather than running up the score in a single fixture.
Match-by-match operating plan
Before the first kickoff
- Confirm the event countdown, attempts and current objective text in the live panel.
- Open Squad A and Squad B and verify that no starter or bench player appears twice.
- Put the more reliable attacking and defensive core in the squad you want to use for your first perfect-round attempt.
- Check that both teams have a legal goalkeeper, a full starting XI and a complete bench.
After a win
Record which squad was used and which round is complete. Do not rebuild the next team by importing a favorite substitute from the winning bench. That card is locked along with the starters. Load the untouched pool for the next round and recheck eligibility before pressing play.
After a loss
Continue if you still need scoring or win counters. A loss does not end the event, and the next match can still add a separate scoring match or improve your overall win total. If the loss reveals a structural weakness—no outlet on the counter, a fragile centre-back pairing or an unusable bench—make the adjustment on the next attempt, not by reusing a locked item.
When an item appears unavailable
- Leave the event squad screen without confirming a replacement.
- Check both saved lineups, including every substitute slot, for that player item.
- Remove the duplicate from the later squad and replace it with an unassigned card from your club.
- Reopen the event panel and confirm that the squad is accepted before kickoff.
If the game still marks a player as locked, trust the event screen rather than an external squad builder. Live event rules and lock timing can change, and the panel is the authoritative eligibility check.
Rewards and whether they justify the grind
The group reward is reported to include Future Stars Julio César Enciso and Brajan Gruda, alongside cosmetic rewards. The individual objective track includes Future Stars Finn Jeltsch, a Gamechanger Evolution and several Gold Player Packs in the 75+, 77+, 80+, 81+, 82+ and 84+ tiers. Reported rewards are untradeable, so they are for your club rather than for resale.

Published card details list Enciso as an 85-rated CAM/ST++ associated with Ipswich in the Premier League, and Gruda as an 84-rated CAM/RM++/CM++/RW++ associated with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. Ratings, positions, club assignments and reward contents are live-service details; verify the current in-game item description before spending coins or designing a team around one card.
Electronic Arts’ 25 September 2026 beginner guide describes Football Ultimate Team as containing more than 21,000 players and players from around the world. That depth is useful here: you do not need two premium squads built from the same small set of popular cards. Search your club for role-appropriate alternatives and reserve coins for the few positions where your own teams genuinely fail.
Common mistakes that make a cheap squad expensive
Repeating a super-sub
The most common error is saving the same fast attacker on both benches. Because the bench is locked, the later round can reject the lineup even if the player never appears on the pitch. Keep a written A/B list and mark substitutes as carefully as starters.
Buying before checking your club
There is no reliable published average cost for completing this event. Buying a full second team from the market before checking untradeables and objective cards can consume coins you need for a single decisive position. Inventory both pools first, then buy only the missing roles.
Building one brilliant team and one unplayable team
The event’s win counters and perfect-round tasks make the second squad part of the solution. If Squad B cannot score or defend, the first squad’s quality cannot compensate. Give both teams a clear way to create chances and protect a lead.
Assuming a defeat wipes progress
A loss does not end the event. Abandoning the remaining matches wastes opportunities for Score in 4, Score in 10, Score in 14 and the ordinary win counters. Continue unless the current attempt has no objective value left.
Chasing every objective automatically
Ten objectives are listed, but only eight are required for the group reward. A lower-skill player can spend far more time forcing Triple Perfect and Score in 14 than the extra rewards are worth. Decide the two skips at the start, then revise only when your actual tracker shows that a different pair is clearly faster.

- Two full squads exist, with no shared starter or substitute.
- Both squads have a goalkeeper, legal starting XI and complete bench.
- The stronger pool is assigned to the round where you want to pursue a perfect result.
- The second pool is still competitive enough to win matches.
- Coins have been spent only on missing, high-impact positions; no current market-price claim is being assumed.
- You know which eight objectives you are targeting and which two you may skip.
- You understand that Score in 10 and Score in 14 count separate scoring matches, not total goals.
- You have checked the live event panel for attempts, countdown, lock status and current reward details.
Bottom line for a budget player
Build two legal matchday squads before you enter Ultimate Gauntlet 2, and treat every bench item as permanently committed for that round. Put your best dependable core in one team, make the second team capable of winning, alternate them without overlap and continue after losses. Since eight of ten objectives unlock the group reward, most players should target the natural scoring and win tasks, then leave Score in 14 and Triple Perfect unless their win rate and available time make those goals efficient.
