Not every library title is Kindle-compatible, and Libby recommends using its app—not this delivery route—on Fire tablets.
Before you start: check your library, title, and device
You need a library card and a title available through your library’s Libby collection. The catalog and formats offered vary by library, so a title may not be available to borrow immediately or may not have a Kindle option. Libby’s Kindle e-reader delivery is available in the United States and works for most, but not all, Libby books. See Libby’s Kindle reading guidance and instructions for getting started with Libby.
- Kindle e-reader: Eligible loans can be sent to Kindle devices associated with the Amazon account you use during the handoff.
- Fire tablet: Libby recommends installing and reading with the Libby app on a Fire tablet. A Fire tablet is not the same as a Kindle e-reader for this workflow.
- Outside the United States: Libby labels Kindle books U.S. only, so do not expect this Kindle delivery option elsewhere. You may still be able to read the loan in Libby, depending on the title and library.
For more on the geographic limit, see Libby’s Kindle Books (U.S. only) information.
How to get a library book from Libby onto your Kindle
- Sign in to your library in Libby. Find the library that issued your card and follow the prompts to add the card or sign in.
- Find a title. Search or browse the library’s collection. Borrow an available ebook, or place a hold if the title is unavailable.
- Open your loan. In Libby, go to Shelf > Loans and select the borrowed title.
- Choose Kindle delivery. Tap Read With… > Kindle. Libby will send you to Amazon.
- Complete the Amazon handoff. Sign in if asked, using the Amazon account associated with the Kindle you want to use, then select Get Library Book.
- Sync your Kindle. Connect it to the internet and give the loan time to appear. It is delivered to Kindle devices associated with the Amazon account used for the handoff.

What if there is no Kindle option?
Not every Libby loan can be sent to a Kindle. First check whether the title is an ebook in a format your library offers for Kindle reading; the library’s catalog determines which titles and formats are available. If the Kindle choice is missing, read the title in Libby if offered, or ask your library about that item’s available formats. The Kindle option is not a setting that can make an incompatible title eligible.
What to do if the book does not appear on your Kindle
If you completed the Amazon handoff but cannot find the loan, Libby’s documented redelivery route is through Amazon’s Your Books page:

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you read in Libby or on a Kindle?
Use the Kindle handoff when you have a Kindle e-reader, are in the United States, and the specific loan offers Kindle delivery. Choose Libby’s app when the title has no Kindle option or you are reading on a Fire tablet. A separate Kindle purchase is not required if you already own a compatible device, and Libby itself provides a reading option for supported loans.
